Polk towers: T50 or R50?

Picked up two R-50s from new egg for $120 recently.... I just saw that Best Buy is selling the T-50s for $80 a piece.... I have to say that the R-50s are a big improvement over the crappy htib speakers I had.... thinking about pulling the trigger on another set... which pair would sound better? Also some guy is selling a pair of RT-600s... how do those compare? Thanks for helping out a noob!!!

David the R and T series are the cheapest lines by Polk. The S series are much better, otherwise for a much better sound look into RBH, Q Acoustics, or the Sony Core series, which happen to be on sale at Best Buy right now.

good luck!

If you can return the R-50's I'd do that and go with these at a great price.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/6-5-2-Way-T....c100005.m1851

Better than the R and T series. Could be as good or better than the S series.

Many comments on these DCM speakers here

This shouldn't be in "great found deals" thread

Marantz SR7013, Polk Signature S60s/S30/S15s/HTS12s, Polk MC80 (x4), AC Infinity T9/S9, AAB4 HTPC,...still to come - Panasonic DP-UB820K, 82" 4K QLED or eqv.

Are there any noteworthy differences between the two? Which of the two is better??

They are both bottom of the line Polks. Not much difference. I suggested the DCM speakers as being much better than the polks. Did you read any of the thread and how folks are liking them?

I appreciate your suggestion but I’m trying to decide between these two speakers... what you suggested won’t match the appearance of my setup and I have a wife to deal with....

the r was a huge step up from my htib speakers.... I’m wondering if spending a little extra on the T is worth it....

Does anyone here have actual experience with these two speakers??? Or is anyone familiar with the specs to help decide between the two?

Even though they’re bottom of the line speakers, they sound way better than what I had and were dirt cheap at $60/piece....

Anyone that frequents this forum won't likely have A/B'd these 2 speaker and therefore can't compare the two sonically. You should go to best buy and audition them yourself. No one here can tell you if the T's are worth the upgrade over the R's better than you. Or better yet, buy both, set them up at home and compare there.

Probably a good idea as I don't think the T will have any advantages over the S.

The DCM's do come in black too

After reading reviews, I think I’m gonna pull the trigger on the Sony core series! I don’t know anything about crossover **** or have the equipment to hook up the dcm’s.... I just wanna make sure the center channel is also decent on the Sony core?.... everything I’ve read is about the towers....

Black Friday sale going on at the ebay owners site on DCM. They are better than the Sony's. Will hook up just the same so not sure where you got they are any different. They are nice tower speakers and price can't be beat. Any receiver will work with them

Have you read the remarks on the DCM from folks? I own the bookshelf version and it is very good.

I was confused because they have four connections in the back instead of just two... saw something online about needing like a receiver for crossover or something!!! I’m a noob... I barely know what I’m doing... have owned htib’s my whole life!!!

No problem. We all had to start somewhere and good that you came here for some advice. The extra binding post are for bi wiring. Not really recommended as it doesn't give you much benefit except to complicate things so just hook up the speaker wire as usual to one pair and you are good to go. Better speakers often include the option.

Dang I had pretty much decided on the Sony’s and am now back on the DCMs.... I can’t find the TP-160C anywhere... can you recommend a budget center speaker that somewhat matches them? I don’t want to keep using my htib center channel.... it sounds weird with my r-50s and am guessing it would sound even crappier paired with the Sony core or DCMs

That seller also has in-ceiling mtx speakers.... very tempting....

Here are a few centers that would work.

https://pricedrightsales.com/product...-mtx-tp160c-ch

The DCM in-ceiling would be a good choice as well. Hope you can pull it off!

Will do... I sure did!! Got the pair of towers for $135!! Passed on the in-ceiling speakers for now.... will continue to use my htib’s as surrounds and overhead speakers.... But am thinking I’ll switch over to those dcm in-wall and in-ceiling speakers when I drywall my future theater room!

Okay, so the dcm speakers arrived earlier today and I got them hooked up just now.... The center channel is massive and barely fit in my entertainment center

I was “showing the polks off” to my cousin on Saturday night with the opening scene of bumble bee... to my ear, they sounded decent or at least much better than my onkyo speakers....

But WOW.... I just watched the opening scene again... and the DCMs sound waaaaay clearer than the polks did.... the speech is much easier to understand... the polks sounded a little muffled and like they were getting distorted at high volumes!!!! I guess it’s hard for me to describe... but they just sound sharper...

Now I need to figure out what to do with the polks.... I’ll probably get more out of them if my replace my left and right onkyo speakers in my other setup than if I use them as surrounds....

Also, I caved and ordered in-ceiling dcm speakers.... those will get here on Friday but I won’t get them installed until I finish the theater in March... I’ll probably end up getting the dcm in wall speakers as well.... unless you guys know of some similarly priced budget in-wall speakers....a guy near me was selling a set of four in-wall klipsch speakers for $80 but they sold quickly

Thank you guys so much for your advice!!!
