Pair Kef LS50 Black Edition - $993 on Amazon

FWIW, if any of you were interested in buying a pair of these it looks like Amazon is running a pretty good deal on the Black LS50 right now for $993. Typical price is $1300.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XS424HJ...language=en_US

Edit: Looks like they're $899 now. I was going to order a pair for myself to test the speakers since I tested the raw drive units a long time ago and was very impressed by them (you can see my review results on my site in the link below. But I'm trying to save my money for test equipment.

That's a pretty good deal on new LS50's. And personally, I like the all black look more than the orange/black we typically see.

The link in your post does not work, but I have a working link here.

Awesome Speakers!

I picked up a pair the day after Christmas when Amazon had the black new on sale for $853 - and open box (like new) for $766, both with free prime shipping, I thought that KEF must be about to discontinue or update them as KEF also had them new on their site for $899 plus shipping.

They are incredible speakers and I like the all black much better and it's the best audio deal I ever got right up there when I got my Denon X4500 for $599 from that 4-hour sale at Frys.

Only wish I would of gotten a 2nd pair of LS50 that day!

https://camelcamelcamel.com/KEF-LS50...uct/B06XS424HJ

Now if Outlaw would put the RR2160 B-stock on sale for $629 with free shipping like they did last year.

Is anyone using these exclusively in a 5.1 or 7.1 system? It just seems that these would be the perfect, albeit fairly expensive, speakers for that.

KEF LS50s are awesome

I have both the passive and active versions of the LS50s. I've been an audio aficionado for over 30 years, and been through 6 or 7 different audiophile speakers, some costing about 8 times more than the LS50s. I don't need to look for new speakers anymore.

Accessories4Less has them for $749- "factory conditioned", but from my experience with A4L, their stuff is pretty close to new.

I bought a couple pair of the all black on Dec 9th, 2019 for $899 a pair from Amazon. All I needed was 3 but when you buy one from KEF they are not half price and Amazon only sells pairs. When I bought my white ones I bought one pair and one single and I think I paid $1200 a pair from Amazon and $700 for the single from KEF. I wish I could have gotten piano black and black cones.

Thank you for posting the deal. I have a few questions that I hope someone can help answer for me:

1) Can you lay the speaker on it's side if you wanted to use one as a center channel?

2) How do these compare to the infinity reference speakers? I have 2x R162 and 1x RC263

3) Can these be driven by an Onkyo TX-NR 807? If so, how many of these could I drive with that receiver?

4) a very subjective question.. would I be better off abandoning a planned 5.1 setup to go 2.1 with a pair of Ls50s ? (I have a Rythmik LV-12R subwoofer and currently live in an apartment. The living room area is roughly 18 x 19 feet). Setting up a 5.1 at this point means putting away the surrounds when i'm not using them so that there is less clutter)

Thanks in advance,

Kef Direct has some deals too. The wireless LS50 is $1999 AND they are throwing in the performance stands for free. Which is a pretty tempting offer in my opinion.

Indeed. Price drop on these for sure!

Now you can get them for $899 from Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/KEF-LS50-Mini...language=en_US

or Kef is running a sale of their own and you can get them there:
https://us.kef.com/catalog/product/v...r/category/94/

Historically speaking, this is the lowest they have ever been priced that I'm aware of.

If by "these" you mean LS50s generally, I use six for HT, supplemented below 80 Hz by a pair of Velodyne HGS-10s.

MusicDirect.com also has them for $899 https://www.musicdirect.com/speakers...shelf-Speakers

$899 was the sale price KEF ran in December and if history is our guide, most (if not all) authorized KEF dealers will soon be matching the manufacture's sale price, including Best Buy as they did in December also. In the meantime, Best Buy will Price Match Guarantee https://www.bestbuy.com/site/help-to...at297300050000

And now that Amazon is matching KEF's sale prices they are offering free next day shipping, free returns, and 5 monthly installments of $180/month, which equals $899 total. Amazon had them for $850 in December and I got the next day shipping, free returns, and 5 month installment deal back then.

Awesome speakers and I HIGHLY recommend them for that price - and with free shipping & 0% interests for 5 months, they'll cost you $6 a day for 5 months and then be warrantied for 5 years.

Definitely worth the latte factor - "Taking control of your latte factor means the willingness to give up on the little mindless daily purchases for the sake of big wins (those that bring long term happiness and/or value)" https://www.modestmoney.com/the-latte-factor/1283

Here is the direct link without any affiliate codes so you know the recommendation is genuine

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XS424HJ

Or for the best deal get the 50% off KEF refurbished with 5 year warranty and free shipping for $749

I am very interested in the active LS50s -- in your opinion, how does the sound compare between the active and passive?

Thanks in advance,
For question 1), Yes it can be laid on its side because of the Uni-Q driver array. That is how I have mine and it sounds great.

bikinpunk, thank you so much for posting the KEF LS50 link. I've been dragging my feet about updating some old equipment. I followed up on the link and ordered an LS50 pair. Then I thought about it some more and ordered a second pair. All with stands. Then I got to thinking about which of my old subwoofers to use and ended up ordering a KEF Kube 10b. I'll be broke for a while but I think I''l be happy. That's what money is for, right?

I have been very loyal to KEF for the last 30 years. The speakers ordered above were supposed to be for my office. When it's all said and done I'll probably put the new stuff at my TV and trickle down the old KEF stuff to my office.

When my wife asks why I did this I'm going to blame you!

KEF LS50 vs LS50W

On my system I do think the LS50W are cleaner sounding and more detailed, but it's close. I would think the quality of amps feeding the LS50 passive versions make a big difference too. But with the KEF50s, you get great dedicated builtin amps, and a subwoofer line out which makes a very good system.

Thank you, that's great to hear as I was leaning towards the active due to my location (and not having to drop $$$ on an amp).
