I am looking to purchase a Sony HDTV, the KDL-32BX420, and am concerned that the color gamut out of the box is slightly off since reading a review on televisioninfo.com. Can this be corrected with a colorimeter, or would it be better to purchase a set with accurate color gamut right out of the box even if I have to give up other aspects of PQ like deeper black levels?

I'm considering this set because of it's measured very dark black levels and high contrast ratio as measured by someone at that web site. My reasoning is that since the black levels and contrast ratio are not likely to be modified, I should look at trying to alter the color gamat, if it's able to be calibrated to match Rec.709 better. I assume the white balance settings could probably accomplish this. True?

Thanks.

White balance controls aren't really there to affect gamut. You need a Color Management System (CMS) for that. Unless they changed recently, I don't believe Sony has jumped on the CMS bandwagon. You may just have to live with an out-of spec gamut.
