JETI Spectraval VIS Spectroradiometers Announced

JETI has announced the addition of 2 new Spectroradiometers to the JETI probes family.

These meters has been demonstrated already at Laser World of Photonics exhibition @ Munich (22-25 Jun 2015) and they they will be available @ IBC 2015, The World's Premier Broadcast Technology Event @ Amsterdam (11-15 September 2015). I will update this thread about any further news / availability / pricing once they will be available.

JETI's Spectraval is a compact spectroradiometer for the visible spectral range.

It is available in a version without display (1501) and one with display (1511).

Both can be used for spectral Radiance measurement with a measuring angle of 2°.

The actual measuring area is marked by a red circle.

Advantages:

Compact solutions
Fast measurement
Precise results due to high quality
spectrograph and NIST traceable calibration
Comfortable handling due to Bluetooth connection

Examples for applications:

Calibration of broadcast monitors
Color adjustment of digital projectors
Measurement of LED displays

Spectraval 1511 can be operated in stand alone mode or in connection with a computer.

Spectraval 1511 displays the following values:

Luminance, Radiance
xy and u´v´ coordinates, RGB values
Dominate wavelength, color purity
Correlated Color Temperature
Color Rendering Index
Radiometric spectrum

Spectraval 1501 always needs a computer, but can be used with several special programs, e.g. for monitor calibration.

Hi Chad, it's not that small as it seems at the picture, look the dimensions and compare them with your 1211 dimensions to see

Ah, you're right! 140x80x70 mm and 400 g for the 1501 vs. 180x82x53 mm and 450 g for the 1211.

Looking at the specs, it appears that the only differences are spectral range and possibly chromacity accuracy, in the 1211's favor. The light receiving element is listed as "binned" on the new units, but not the 1211.

It will be interesting to find out the pricing once that is made available.

There differences at measuring luminance range for the new units.

For 1211 is 0.1 - 2500 cd/m²
For 1511 is 0.1 - 150.000 cd/m²

As we know that kind of max luminance capabilities of 1511 are a lot higher from any peak luminance required for any calibration, so that difference it's not that important of our usage.

BTW, JETI's 1211 measuring range in Radiance mode can be shifted to higher intensities by external attenuating filters, mounted in a cap to be attached to the instrument.

Here are the available filter options:

with OD 0.5 Filter: 0.4...10 000 cd/m²
with OD 1.0 Filter: 1...25 000 cd/m²
with OD 1.3 Filter: 2...50 000 cd/m²
with OD 1.5 Filter: 3...75 000 cd/m²
with OD 2.0 Filter: 10...250 000 cd/m²

Ted,

Do you know how synching is handled....meaning is it automatic or do you have to enter the value manually?

Hi Jim, this is handled by the software, for example with CalMAN, you can select to have a fixed refreshing rate (when you will initialize the meter) or to choose to scan for refreshing rate before each meter read. You can enter also manually any value.

He Ted,
Thanks for the hint. Since I do not have the permission to download, I could not notice this. My 1501 had already installed the current Firmware 1.0.4. Therefore, I know the release date.

The current Internet offer from JETI shows that a cosine diffuser (ACC 032) is now also available for the Spectraval 1501 as an additional option. I suspect that this is related to the firmware update to release 1.0.4.
In the current datasheet of Spectraval 1501 it was added that now also illuminance measurements (with the diffuser) are possible. This would be very good for contrast measurements on projectors.
Measuring range illuminance:
2 - 1.000.000 Lux (III. A)
2 - 760.000 Lux (typical white LED)

I do not know if the diffuser can be ordered easily, or if the sensor has to be sent to JETI for calibration.

Peter

edit:
If you want to use the diffuser, you have to send the sensor to JETI, because both are calibrated together. I asked this at JETI.
In addition, Steve told me that the diffuser can not be used for contrast measurements. So we can forget the Thing.

Hi Peter,

Correct, it needs separate re-certification for luminance or illuminance readings (or both), and the prices for that are different.

Better to use a colorimeter for contrast measurement.

The link will be fixed in the following days.

To get access to firmware downloads register and then send to JETI your username and your meter serial; they will give you access to any download after that.

He Ted,
I also did this and got an account. But there are probably 2 types of permissions.

Once for smart guys (=Ted) and others for stupid guys (= Peter)

And stupid guys are not allowed to download any firmware.

There is the message "You may need special access rights to download. Please contact the JETI support."

Hi Peter,

I have never seen JETI to give details about any firmware release, so it's good to always have the latest firmware.

There some updates of JETI SDK which software developers adding to their latest releases which require specific version of firmware to work, look there: http://www.jeti.com/cms/index.php/so...re-development

''Full functionality only with firmware 2.0 for specbos 1201 or firmware 3.0 for specbos 1211.''
