Are these test patterns good for testing computer monitors, as well as other types of displays like UHD TV's?

Is there any difference between the testing methodology when you have a monitor driven by a computer instead of a TV? I don't have an Utra-blu ray player in the pc, so I suppose I would want to get the digital download version. Does the suite include both static images (as png files, or similar) and video test clips? Can I run the test suite from the pc using Windows Media Player, or IrfanView, or VLC? If it makes any difference for the testing methodology, the pc is Windows 10 (64 bit) with a GTX1080ti GPU. I also bought an Xrite i1 DisplayPro.

Is this suite focused only on testing HDR? Should I also get something like Ryan's Advanced Calibration Disc for testing the non-HDR display modes of the monitor?

This is my first wide gamut UHD monitor, so I'm not quite up to speed on the technology yet. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Hi mpwr5,

I just responded to your email. Thanks!

Hi 256k,

Only the saturation sweeps have been affected. Grayscale, gamma, color and the color checker patterns are still applicable. However, this will be addressed within the next pattern suite update. Thanks!

Thanks Ryan. Is there going to be any kind of deal for those that purchased the first authored HDR10 Disc for the revised Disc?

I bought the first adition of MP4 HDR patterns and recieved updates, till now.
Is this because you've added HLG and Dolby Vision?
Do I really need new patterns for that to play it right?

Hi Candle,

You should still receive the update. The release is staggered so it may take a bit before you receive it. However, please let me know if this is not the case and I will address it at that time. Thanks!

Wow, you're too good for us.

Is there such a difference between the HDR patterns and the HLG and Dolby Vision patterns?
Are the 50% patterns for 30-80 greyscale and Gamut not good enough for all?

The difference is mostly within the metadata, or lack thereof, between the different formats and how the decoder interprets set pattern within each mode. 50% amplitude within HDR is a safe area where most HDR enabled display devices can reach, roughly 100 nit. Thanks!

Ryan, I am wondering if you are still limiting your HDR10 and other formats to 1000nits? Recently we are seeing TVs and displays become available that can cover 2000+nits. Forgove my ignorance, but will this be an issue?

Currently, yes. The HDR-10 test pattern suite is limited to 1,000 nit. However, this will change in the near future and is heavily dependent on current content mastering peak nit levels. Thanks!

Thanks for this update!

But - is there something going on with your delivery service (sendowl)?
It's really slow, I wasted 2 download 'tokens' only to see it stall... twice.

Dslreports speed test shows everything is fine on my side (100/100mbps), so I assume it is the sendowl service?

The server is extremely saturated at the moment, I have quite a few connection points accessing the new revision all at once. I'm taking in emails as they come and will reset download limits as needed. Sorry for any inconveniences. Thanks!

I'm currently copying the pattern suite over to my other server, almost complete. It's a pricey option, but it will cut down on the download time substantially. Thanks!

@mascior is there a smaller version of your test suite available? I'm actually only interested in the HDR white/black clipping tests and 25$ is a bit much if I only want to use those.

Hi HiFi4Vision,

Unfortunately, I do not offer an À la carte option for test patterns at the moment. However, it's something I may look into in the future. Thanks!

Diversified Video Solutions UHD|HDR-10 Test Pattern Suite (.ts/.mp4) update REV_021 Released!

**NOTE: This revision was compresses with 7-Zip. To extract, please utilize the 7-Zip extracting utility found at http://www.7-zip.org/(PC) or The Keka extracting utility found at http://www.kekaosx.com/(MAC)

Description

This release was an ongoing project that I worked on in parallel with the other revisions that would eventually end up replacing the entire suite, now finalized. I am excited to announce REV_021, with 85% of the entire pattern suite has been recreated, with numerous updates, additions and details. All test patch windows have been reduced from 11.11% down to true 10.00% window patches across the board. Onscreen font has been reduced to help with ABL and now provide triplet values for both grayscale and color. All test patches are now 10-bit scalable down to 8-bit precision to coincide with all manufactures software engines for increased accuracy. Numerous basic and miscellaneous test patterns have been updated. They now provide more onscreen information and/or data for the end user. The independent manufacture workflows have been updated to reflect any modifications since the last release. The new encoding method utilized for this release was more efficient, though the overall pattern suite size has increased, it is almost 1gb smaller in size when compressed and/or zipped, when compared to REV_020.

Finally, I would like to thank all of my customers for their continued support with this ongoing project, as we are nearing the 2 year mark from the initial release of REV_001. Thank you!

- Ryan M.

Thanks Ryan! Great to see the patterns are using 10% now. Now they are truely reference grade.

Are your SDR patterns formatted 10% as well?

I Just strip out the patterns I need for my Calman calibration, and this drops the size of file I need work with.

For the cost of the original investment, I find it minimal for the updates coming later.

Diversified Video Solutions UHD|HDR-10 Test Pattern Suite (.ts/.mp4) update REV_021 Re-release!

**NOTE: This revision was compresses with 7-Zip. To extract, please utilize the 7-Zip extracting utility found at http://www.7-zip.org/ (PC) or The Keka extracting utility found at http://www.kekaosx.com/ (MAC)

Description

I am re-releasing Rev_021 for a few minor changes, updates and additions. There were a few 100% saturation patches within the ChromaPure workflow “Pre/Post-Calibration Color Gamut” sweep that were wrong, they have now been corrected. The 2018 LG OLED code value patterns have now been added to both the CalMAN and Color HCFR workflows and within the miscellaneous section of the suite. All 2016, 2017 and 2018 LG OLED patterns are now available in separates and combined sweeps.

All customer download limits will be reset and new links will be redistributed. Sorry for any inconveniences this may have caused. Thank you for your continued support!

Hi Ryan,

Can you send the download link again? The link is expired after trying via IE a few times. It didn't open up the 'save as' windows and 7z file was shown as texts in the browser page.
