Exactly - it would require custom patterns for HCFR

I don’t expect that to provide any advantage over the standard saturation sweep patterns. The luminance gets higher as saturation gets lower, so youre calibrating closer to full luminance relative to white.

Probably not. But in some cases colors look over saturated even though they measure well. I'm wondering if these targets might help with that.

May I know what is the mean 50% Amp (50% Sat) in BT2020 Gamut HDR,
it is absolute luminance i.e. 50% = around 93 nits; or
related luminance i.e. 50% = 50% of measured peak?

Thank you.

Anthony
Hi Anthony,

Within ST2084, 50% White 126,126,126 = 92 nit. This breaks down to 50% Red (24 nit), 50% Green (63 nit) and 50% Blue (5 nit). (24 nit + 63 nit + 5 nit = 92 nit)

The constant luminance utilized by ChromaPure is currently based off this 50% point for color saturation sweeps, as it's an attainable range for current HDR displays. Lets use 50% Red for example:

Red 50% Amp/100% Sat....................126,16,16 (50%,00%,00%) = 24 nit
Red 50% Amp/75% Sat......................121,75,75 (48%,27%,27%) = 24 nit
Red 50% Amp/50% Sat......................115,86,86 (45%,32%,32%) = 24 nit
Red 50% Amp/25% Sat......................108,93,93 (42%,35%,35%) = 24 nit

The color red maintains a constant value of 24 nit throughout the entire saturation sweep. I hope this helps. Thanks!

- Ryan M.

* Edit: HCFR utilizes 50.23% White 126,126,126 = 94.378 nit. This breaks down to 50% Red (24.793 nit), 50% Green (63.988 nit) and 50% Blue (5.597 nit). (24.793 nit + 63.988 nit + 5.597 nit = 94.378 nit)

I am mainly using the CalMAN to calibrate projector, as the luminance of the projector will not reach the ST2084 standard.

May I have your advice that should I use multiplier of the measured white to calibrate 50% color 50% Amp in BT2020 color gamut? If the answer is positive, which figure of the measured white I should multiplier, peak white or 50% white (i.e. measured 50% white is 23 nits then 23/92 = 4). It's make me very confuse.

Thank a lot!

Anthony

Dolby Vision calibration Patterns

Using an Oppo 205 or 203, you can now use the convert to Dolby vision
mode to convert a standard HDR-10 4K set of calibration patterns into
Dolby vision.
I've done this using the R. Masciola HDR-10 4K calibration disc.

It works very well, although I'm hoping that the experts will test this
and confirm that the patterns are accurate.

I'll be getting the LG C8 very soon and I am interested in calibrating Dolby Vision. I only have experience with calibrating HDR10, but not DV. Will this work for calibrating DV or not? If not, will you be releasing a DV version? Thanks!

I would also like to provide a brief update regarding version 2 of my UltraHD Blu-ray HDR-10 test pattern disc. The new disc menus and pop-up menus have been completed. I'm in the process of combining the elementary streams and all authoring should be completed by the end of August. We are still looking good for an early Fall release. Thanks!

Great stuff man. Thank you for all you do.

Is version 2 an add-on to version 1 or is it a complete suite?

If it is a complete suite, will there be a price discount for version 1 owners?

Hi skschatzman,

Version 2 will be a complete suite, encompassing all of REV_023. I redesigned the entire disc from the ground up and there will definitely be a discount for existing customers. Thanks!

This is considered a staple release and is recommended to disregard any previous release, as this revision encompasses numerous pattern modifications, changes and additions. All Revision 23 test patterns will be featured in my soon to be released “version 2” UltraHD Blu-ray HDR-10 Test Pattern Disc. I would also like to thank Alan Brown (aka GeorgeAB), The President of CinemaQuest, Inc. regarding the co-design of the newly implemented ambient light test patterns available within the miscellaneous section of the suite! The new and/or modified patterns are listed below and please be sure to reference the newly updated instruction manual for further details. As always, thank you for your continued support!

- Ryan M.

No problem here, either; I even tried the "Save to DB" feature, which normally fails, but this time the file was in there (even though it still gave the error message that it didn't save); already unpacked and loaded onto a thumb drive.

@mascior why not split the download into TS and MP4, surely this would save you bandwidth costs?

Good old Windows XP and an older Google - took 3 tries but finally downloaded. (1.2 hour just to download !)

Meantime, went on my wife's computer, with Windows 7, whole file downloaded, extracted and copied in less than 1/2 hour.

Edit:

Ooops - Senior's moment - the file that was downloaded last night was OK. Some dummy on the keyboard, was looking at the wrong file ! (And we won't mention any names.)

Hi richardsim7,

I have offered separates for quite some time now. However, they're only available upon request. That may change in the future. Thanks!
