So I've got the HDR test patterns, how do I go about calibrating HDR10 on my LG OLED B7 using these + HCFR? I've searched around but I haven't found anything up to date. Do I need the list of 8-bit values for the TV, or are these included in HCFR now?

You would likely get a better response in the HCFR thread.

I sorted that out (thanks for the advice Ted), I've now got a i1-Display Pro and ordered Chroma Pure, just because HCFR is a bit beyond the time investment I wish to apply now.

My next question, I have the HDR-10 UHD test patterns on my server, is it ok to stream them to devices connected to my TVs for calibration? I'm networked by cable so running max bitrate if that makes any difference.

Then again, for 2019, a whole brand new video encoding will be announced, making all current and former encodings obsolete!
Got to keep sales up !
First, clear out inventories of the old stuff on BF and BD.

My AVS family. Sorry I haven't had much time to hop on the forums lately, I've been busy over the past couple of months working on multiple projects. However, a lot of great things coming down the pipeline. I will be accepting pre-orders for the DVS UltraHD|HDR-10 Blu-ray Disc Version 2 this Friday. As always, current customers will get a discount and should be receiving a link via email through Mail Chimp. I'm anticipating fulfillment within 3 to 4 weeks of the pre-order date. Dolby Vision patterns are still in the works (sorry for the delay), I will post some DV demo patterns on the forum soon. I'm also working on a few collaborations projects as well. Thank you for your continued support!

Ryan, looking forward to the new test disc. Any changes/correction to the order of the saturation sweep patterns for Chromapure3?

Example:

Chromapure3 sweep order: 75%, 50%, 25%

DVS Version 1 sweep order: 25%, 50%, 75%

Also, does the disc include sweep patterns for CP3 at 20% increments, i.e., 80%, 60%, 40%, 20%?

Hi Pres2play,

Yes, all 3 workflows have been updated to correspond to their associated software pattern order. Essentially, v2.0 mimics REV_023 of the digital download, plus. As where v1.0 was based on REV_015. This is a massive update in comparison. Thanks!

Also, I'm currently working on our Dolby Vision pattern project as I type this. Sorry for the delay. The most challenge part of this entire process is the encoding. All of my test patterns have been created, DV analyzed, rendered, along with both TIF sequence and DV XML files exported. However, there are only a few 3rd party companies that offer the ability to encode Dolby Vision. With the only commercially available encoder being the Ateme Titan, which between the hardware and software cost as much as a new Honda Accord! I have been working with a company to assist with the encoding, but it's extremely expensive and time consuming. With that being said, REV_001 of the Dolby Vision Pattern Suite may start of small and only include essential test patterns to start. Thank you everyone for your patience on this project!

Production is moving right along. I'm utilizing a new vendor this time, Optical Media Manufacturing, they are the real deal. Sony DADC is still physically replicating the discs. However, OMM essentially takes care of everything else. Fulfillment's may start within a few weeks, fingers crossed. Thanks!

DV is much more involved partly due to the fact that Dolby is an intellectual property (IP) company only. Everything to do with it has to be licensed - and paid for.

Don't think so. It's a disc of specialist HDR10 patterns.

No. A non-HDR TV probably won't be able to display a picture from it at all. Ryan does produce a separate set of SDR patterns for that...

ok thank you. but where to get the SDR patterns? cant find on his homepage...

another question, bought the disc for my samsung Q9FN and have troubles with black clipping and local dimming. when the menu is visible, everything seems fine. when the menu disappears, i cant even read the percentages. how do you handle a tv where local dimming cant be turned off?

Hmmm. Looks like he may have stopped work on the SDR disc to concentrate on the HDR products. Sorry about that! For a great alternative, see here:
https://www.avsforum.com/forum/139-d...tion-disk.html

Look in the Q9FN owner's or calibration threads for tips on how to deal with local dimming.

Is it for HDR10 still recommanded to calibrate the greyscale with 30 - 80% patterns, with Callman?
THe later versions have 20 - 80% and 30 - 100% as well.
What will give me the best result?
I let my projector crush around 1000 nits.

Um... grayscale is calibrated between 0-100%...

If you mean 2pt white balance, there has never been a recommended set of points. The default points may be altered to anything you specify. The points you choose should be based on the pre-calibration reading. The purpose of 2pt white balance is to bring the white balance and grayscale 0-100% as close to reference as possible before moving on to grayscale calibration.

Working on it. The process in which it takes to create Dolby Vision test patterns is quite challenging from multiple angles vs what it takes to create HDR-10 or HLG-HDR. However, now that I have synced up with the folks over at Hybrik (now a part of Dolby), I now have a viable solution for transcoding DV. Unfortunately all of the content had to be recreated, as I'm using a different method for rendering and exporting. My current dilemma is deciding on whether to utilize "Profile 5" or "Profile 7" when transcoding. Profile 5, is typically used for streaming, utilizes full range and ICtCp. Whereas, Profile 7 is typically utilized for UltraHD BD authoring and uses a limited range. I have successfully created a few patterns for testing in both profiles...However, I'm still in the beta testing phase. Sorry for the delay. Thanks!
