I have a hunch many of those same owners would be on their 2nd and 3rd televisions regardless of the TV they purchased in their pursuit of the perfect TV.

For better or worse there's a small luminance range above black that has banding though it rarely manifests itself in content. I can understand plasma owners holding off on an OLED but LCD owners crack me up as they're so obsessed with a 5% slide but seem to be oblivious to all the light bleed issues on a broader range.

LG 65B8 - Primary
LG 55EG9100 - Bedroom
Sonos Playbase
MS Xbox One S (using strictly as a disk player)

How were attendees vetted to ensure unbiased.

Bias could be from a Company they have interests in or even a technology they have personally invested in?

I'm not sure that they could even begin to vet the attendees. A general invitation went out to seek applications for tickets and it is fair to assume that a lot of those attending will either own, or aspire to own, one of the competing TVs and therefore could be biased in some way. Even if they don't realise it themselves.
The way I look at these shootouts, where members of the public vote, is that it can only be regarded as a bit of fun and not to be taken too seriously.
However, from what I have seen of the three OLEDs I think I would pretty much concur with the voting and I did think the Panny had a great chance of winning. How the LG and Sony would be placed , in relation to each other , was less certain but as I personally opted to buy the LG then I think I just about got that one right too.
Perhaps a useful category may be Value For Money. That could possibly shake things up a little.

I think most of us create that category in our heads along with a ceiling in what we're willing to spend.

Very true Jim. But how often do we fix a top price only to find ourselves smashing it not too long down the road ? I did that with my subwoofers over a twelve month period and have had three TVs in three years. I keep telling myself that this latest one will last a while but I'm not sure if I truly believe that.

I think the trick might be to space it out a little. You don't want a new mercedes, TV and subwoofer in the same month. They'd probably pick up on that. lol

But all that cash stuffed under the mattress tends to get a bit lumpy and gives me disturbed sleep, so I just have to offload some !

So which is the best TV between the Sony ZD9 and LG OLED C7?

Well. That's a loaded question. Simple answer is that based on two shootout results it's the C7.

Yes that makes sense and even more so where one shootout was judged by professionals and the other by consumers. They both resulted in C7 as scoring higher than SONY ZD9.

I would consider a Sony Oled that does not have the panel audio system and if it had a higher ABL.

Perhaps attendees should have been vetted so that those who wear glasses should have been rejected as well

Actually the sort of glasses you wear makes a difference. When using plastic you will see exactly what you would see if your eyes were 100%. Glass on the other hand has a sort of minimal foggy effect, you will not see 100% clear when using glass.

Looks like they were vetted at the door when 3 were rejected, coming in from a Manufacturer.
