2018 Vizio PQ65-F1 Calibration Thread

This thread was created to share calibration experiences and settings. Calibrating to the standards of the film industry replicates as much of the directors intent as possible. Please keep posts here about calibration. The PQ65-F1 Series owners thread is here for everything else - https://www.avsforum.com/forum/166-lcd-flat-panel-displays/2991586-2018-vizio-p-quantum-65-pq65-owners-thread-no-price-talk.html
Calibration settings are provided for reference as values vary per individual unit even for the same model and size due to manufacturing tolerances. If you want to try them you will need to enter all values shown, as all of them are active at the same time. If you end up with worse picture quality, simply reset them to the default values. Inputting posted settings will not harm your TV.
Below are the provided links to users that have posted calibrations. Message me if you want to have your calibration settings linked. If you update them please edit original posts so the links line up with your current settings. Thank You!

Initial readings show differences between my unit and Rtings. Extreme Black Engine Pro must be set to low for SDR. Using medium at 0 backlight, 100% white gave a reading of 181nits. Using low at 6 backlight, 100% white gave a reading of 100nits. This is with 10% windows on Firmware 1.0.21.1

Good news is the XBEP setting is independent for each calibration table. SDR, HDR10, DV, HLG.

Any need for contrast adjustment for white and color clipping? I know you need atleast a week, so that the pixels can settle.

I only took initial readings and a few small adjustments during the break in period. Contrast/brightness did not need adjustment at all for SDR. I haven't looked at HDR10/DV yet. Still waiting for Vizio to release DVGR for 2018 models.

Please get the Quantum, Shoman. We need your calibration skills! I used your calibration settings on my P 2016 and it made the HDR really pop.

Yeah just like the 16/17's. I think there needs to be more headroom. I've had less clipping in content, especially snow content and clouds/overcast scenes.

My 2017 P65-E1 was clipping 234. Supposed to see 17-234, but not 16 or 235.

It's known that there is much content that is pushed 240 and 250 now so it's good to have that headroom.

In refer to ratings settings Anyone else have to lower gamma settings in HDR? My shadows where way to dark at 2.2. Also had to up the backlight due to my room having moderate light.

Might want to go back to stock settings and try increasing brightness by 1. Brightness will just affect that side of the gamma curve.

Do you guys leave Reduce Judder to 0? I was watching Interstellar (Apple TV iTunes 4K DV) today and noticed choppiness (judder?) when the camera pans while inside the ship. It's almost like a flicker/jumping of the background (I have black frame insertion off). It mostly goes away after Reduce Judder is set to 5 and above. I am not trained enough to notice SOE but I know that it's a byproduct of this setting. I want the experience to be pure but the judder distracts me. Do you guys leave it alone or try to eliminate it?

Edit: I know this is inherent on 24p content. I think the upgrade in screen size makes it more noticeable to me. On my previous 1080P Sony it was not as noticeable to me. Just wondering if you guys try to smooth it or leave it.

I have reduce judder to 5 and reduce blur to 10 and I've been happy with those settings. I don't mind SOE but I can't stand judder, even if it is inherent in 24p.

Im a little scared to put my meter on this thing. Not sure its worth the effort and I think I might make it worse I would have to upgrade my calman license too to deal with HDR...

Hah, the problem is once you start, there goes hours and hours of my life tweaking the damn thing. With past sets I had clear issues I needed to correct. The 2014 P had huge skin-tone issues that were quite difficult to calibrate out.

This set out of the box looks so damn good that Im not sure the juice is worth the squeeze, as they say. It would also cost me a few hundred dollars to upgrade my calman license.

I have only watched this set for a few hours as life is crazy right now. Maybe after the honeymoon I will feel more compelled to play.

For those calibrating that don't have a spectrometer to create an offset matrix, the closest color meter mode for the PQ65 is the 2018 Samsung. If you use a C6.

Hi, Tyler hasn't measured actually with a spectro to see which is the spectral response or the Vizio, he is guessing only, as he said: ''I would guess the VZ Quantum has the same QDs as the 2018 Samsung QLEDs. Or at least very similar. I haven’t had a chance to see one in person yet.''

Not all same tech panels have similar spectral peak/shapes, see for example 3x SPD examples of blue laser I have posted there (the weighing is different and shape): https://www.avsforum.com/forum/139-d...l#post56214918

I compared measurements from my enhanced i1pro 2 to my C6 HDR2000 using the different meter modes. The 2018 Samsung Quantum meter mode was closer to the i1pro 2 measurements than the Vizio RS Quantum. That is how I determined it.
