My calibration earlier this evening had gamma set to -2, which is the setting I usually use. When I watched the Marvelous Mrs Maisel on Prime Video, I checked the picture settings to confirm I was watching HDR. I noticed that gamma was now set to zero. Does HDR automatically change gamma to zero, or do I simply need to manually set it to -2 and it will stick?

BTW, the show looked fantastic in HDR with the new calibration.

I know DolbyVision converts gamma to zero but I’m not sure on HDR10.

I just updated my Z9D to Oreo and was wondering if I also need to update my version of CalMAN Enthusiast? It is version 5.9.1.76 and does not have a Sony Bravia workflow listed. I was able to download and install the CalMAN for Bravia app but would like to know if there is a newer version of CalMAN that I need to get.

Thanks for the help.

I answered you in the Calman thread. It's still in beta so you need to get it from the Spectracal forums in their beta section. I don't have the link handy. You might need to update your all access pass as well depending on when you did last.

Still a bit confused on autocal and gamma. I prefer 2.4. Would i leave gamma setting at 0 and change the target in Calman to 2.4 or change the gamma to -2 after running autocal at 0?

Autocal will set -2 in whichever PM u used in the workflow when finished. DolbyVision will indicate zero. That’s normal.

But i would need to change Calman to target 2.4 instead of 2.2 correct?

You can leave it at default and CalMan sets the gamma setting at -2. The display handles the gamma conversion off the calibration. Try -3 if u want darker. Run the grayscale in the Enthusiast workflow at -3 and see how gamma looks.
@shoman94 bypassed the default target in autocal. He can advise if you’d like to try that.

-2 is 2.4

In AutoCal when you reset the DDC it sets gamma to 2.2 on both the TV and Calman as this is the panels native gamma. After the cal it automatically sets it back to 2.4 (-2) on the TV. HDR always stays 0. Zero in HDR is 2.4

I've had better results calibrating directly to 2.4 so in the workflow I change the display back to 2.4 and also set Calman to 2.4 and run the AutoCal. When you are complete, SDR will be -2 and HDR 0. Pretty simple once you do it.

Hmm. I am running ver 5.9.2.27, which has the Bravia workflow. I downloaded this directly from the SpectraCal downloads page, and did not have to go to the beta forum. Since everything has been working correctly, I assume that my version is the correct version to be using. I wonder why the OP did not receive this version automatically, or why he is not receiving a prompt when he launches CalMAN that a new version is available.

Just to confirm, is 5.9.2.27 the same version you are running, Thomas?

I see you already found your answer, but to confirm, the 940D will not be getting Oreo, according to information I have read. So unfortunately, AutoCal will not be available. When I received my new C6 HDR2000 colorimeter, I tested it out on the 940D while waiting for my 75Z9F. Even though I am meticulous when doing a manual calibration, my results have never been as close to what I was able to get on the Z9F using AutoCal, as my recent results post has shown. I am amazed at how easy and quick AutoCal is to use, and am very pleased with its results. As I have said before, this was a feature high on my list when I chose the Z9F, and I am not disappointed!

This is the latest version listed in the Download secion which is an R2 release:
CalMAN 2018 R2
Version: 5.9.1 Build: 76
Official Release: Aug 28, 2018

Otherwise I don't know. I had to go get the B2 release. There were links posted in the Calman thread so maybe you grabbed it then.

Betas for sure, and possibly Release Candidates as well, do not trigger the "new version available" notice in CalMAN.

The 2018 R2 version is what I was running before and getting the message that my version was up to date. I went to the SpectraCAL forum and was able to download the beta (2018 R3 or B3 ?). Sorry forget what it was named but if needed I can give the file name of the download I received.

Version I now have is 5.9.2.27

Regards.

Well that sucks. I am waiting for the update that has the specific Z9F profile. How will I know whether the update has been released. @thomasfxlt , do you typically get some sort of notification that an update is available? I trust you will share the news here, with perhaps a download link? Thanks!

I certainly will post as soon as it’s available. I’ve been checking daily as @WiFi-Spy says the next beta should be out soon. Looking forward to that Z9F profile for the C6.

If you mean a C-6 display profile for the Z9F, AFAIK those are not dependent on a CalMAN version update. As Spectracal adds them, your install of CalMAN should be checking for available profiles whenever you use it with your C-6 attached. If you are talking about "non-final" CalMAN updates, it'll take a little keyboard work on your part. You can check the CalMAN 5 Release Notes and Discussion thread here, where several people post info on new updates, or the Public Beta area in Spectracal's own forum.

The C6 profile for the Z9F is being released at the same time as the next beta.

Quick question: I set the target luminance level to 120 nits on my AutoCal yesterday. It ended up setting the brightness for SDR to 4, which measured 115 nits on the Luminance screen. Watching SDR content today (my viewing area is has reasonably-controlled light), I am finding the brightness level a little low. Can I raise the brightness setting without having to completely re-do the calibration? Next time I run the calibration, I am thinking of using a 150 nit target. Anything wrong with that?

It will be fine. LCD gray scale stays pretty linear with luminance changes. 115 @ 4 is higher than mine. I get about 125 @ 5. I like 8 = 160 for cable and hockey. I use 5 for dark room movies.

Nothing wrong with that in SDR. Try setting it to Max and let the auto light sensor do it's thing... You'll probably like it.

C6 EDRs are updated/added with new CalMAN builds, they are not separate downloads.

Thanks for the correction on the EDRs, guys. I was thinking they were added separately as they became available.
