As Calman can't display any volumetric 3D graphs, we can't see how Calman can show anything remotely as useful with respect to verifying results?

Steve although volumetric 3D graphs are absolutely one of the best ways show results, I believe what some are asking is can or will CS be able to have a color checker like scan like in CM? Understandably volumetric graphs are more extensive and show the whole picture but If you have a pro version of LS/CS and calibrate for a customer and want a more simplistic scan to show results that a customer can understand, a more traditional color checker scan being available would be nice to have.

We are never interested in 'simplistic' as that never show the true calibration accuracy, as all the various discussions on this forum showing issues with Calman calibration results vs. LightSpace show.

We are only ever interested in accuracy, and ways to verify accuracy.

Basic 'colour checker' verifications are next to useless, as they can look good, while the underlying reality of the true calibration accuracy is, well, crap.

But, you can already verify ANY colour checker profile with LightSpace, and will obviously be able to do the same with ColourSpace - but with true 3D graphs, showing the real error very visually.

And as you now have LightSpace yourself, you can check all the different 'verification' options personally, especially the ability to use any .csv file for any user defined patch sets.

However, there are limitations to the graphs within LightSpace - and that is a good reason for the development of ColourSpace.
We now have what is basically an unlimited canvas for future developments of different graphing options, Calibration Tools, and more.

Steve, understood. Maybe when we have CS and look at the graphs in detail, it will be clearer to everyone.

Steve,

Can you explain how ColourSpace is not just a new skin/GUI for LightSpace CMS? To me it looks like I would be just getting new 3D validation xyY graphs? I see nothing actual calibration related?

As per the website, ColourSpace is a ground-up re-write new program.
There is little in common with the LightSpace code-base, although there is presently some commonality, as with the underlying colour engine - AT THIS MOMENT IN TIME.

But even that will change - very quickly.

However, no-one has to jump to ColourSpace.
Again, as per the website info, LightSpace will continue, and we will add any required bug fixes and compatible developments to LightSpace, as we can.

But, many of the new features and capabilities of ColourSpace will not be LightSpace compatible.
That is why we have spent the past few years working on a totally new code base.
To enable future developments.
And the demo videos already show just how advanced ColourSpace is compared to LightSpace, which is some 15 years old...

What you see in the demo videos is a taster of what ColourSpace will be capable of.
If right now you do not need those capabilities, please do not place any order for a ColourSpace upgrade.

But, orders placed early will benefit from a discount, as per the PR email sent to those on our newsletter email list.
Orders placed later will not benefit from the same discount level.

Oh, and anyone that does upgrade to ColourSpace will also keep their existing LightSpace license.
It will not stop working.

To be very honest with everyone, with the first release of ColourSpace there will be features/capabilities missing.
The reason for this is to allow users to give feedback before we lock in such tools/capabilities.

Such missing features, as well as totally new features, will be added as quickly as possible as we move forward with development.
Obviously, features/capabilities that are listed as standard within the user's specific license level will be added free, as with previous LightSpace development.

The license levels are basically as per LightSpace, and can be seen in the ColourSpace page of the website: https://www.lightillusion.com/colourspace.html
(There will be a totally new Light Illusion website launched with the release of ColourSpace...)

The first release will (likely) be an Open Beta.

ColourSpace News

The decision to make some massive changes to the underlying ColourSpace code, as well as the total re-writing of all hardware integration, has added additional delays to the release timescale for ColourSpace.

While this has added more immediate work, it will enable a lot more future flexibility, and even more exceptional capabilities going forward.

However, LightIllusion has updated the whole website since they are very closed to release the first Alpha version to a private group of testers.

The LightSpace guides replaced with ColourSpace guides as they are very close to release the first Alpha Test version of ColourSpace.

For LightSpace users, the regular guides are now available @ Support -> Historical Guides.

After the Alpha, it will follow the open Beta.

However, there is still much work to do, even after the first full release of ColourSpace, as the possibilities do look great.
