Exclamation *Samsung's Cal Day / Cal Night Are You Kidding Me!!

*Professional or Novice Calibrators please chime in...

It seems Cal Day / Cal Night modes are super buggy in the KS9800 and I'm pretty sure this is the same for other Samsung series and models as well... So everyone, regardless of series and model please feel free to comment on the following issues;

First... Is there a fix for Cal Day / Cal Night for showing up in the smart hub as a "Undefined" picture mode instead of Cal Day / Cal Night as they properly display inside the picture selection menu?

Second... Is there a fix for Cal Day / Cal Night HDR for not switching into HDR mode if the incoming HDR source is through HDMI.. As it will force HDR only through Dynamic, Standard, Natural, & Movie but will not recognize Cal Day or Cal Night HDR once you toggle off of it.. Cal Day / Cal Night remain in SDR mode... However, Cal Day / Cal Night HDR will work just fine for built in apps such as Netflix.. So there is some hope here.. 🙂

Third... (I guess this is Good News) Cal Day / Cal Night SDR work perfect and can be saved as additional Cal Day / Cal Night SDR picture modes but still display as "undefined" picture mode in the smart hub.

*I am curious to know if anyone has contacted Samsung or Calman (As a professional calibrator or novice) about this issue or has found a workaround (besides just calibrating Movie HDR)..

-Thank you

Have you updated to the latest firmware? Have you factory reset the TV AFTER updating to the latest firmware?

Yes, I have... Are you suggesting this from your personal experience with this issue or just as general information? As this does not resolve the issues.. Thank you.

*Latest firmware as of yesterday (04/24/2018); 1233.0

I asked 2 questions. Which one are you answering?

CAL-DAY and Night are not appropriate for HDR. I recommend using them for SDR day/night and then use Movie for HDR.

So what this means is if you are watching CalDay SDR then you play HDR content, you have to manually switch to Movie HDR, this is so stupid, sorry.

My Cal Day / Night settings switch to HDR in Cal mode with HDR content in my HDMI input.

But if you measure them, the accuracy is nowhere near where it should be as compared to movie mode.

So even if you adjust the Cal HDR settings they won't measure up to Movie mode HDR settings?

I tried Cal Day, Night and Movie modes set to the same HDR settings and they all looked the same using the Fifth Element UHD disc. I didn't mess with the custom settings. Are you refering to calibrating the custom settings then Cal Day & Night will not be as accurate as Movie mode?

If so, will CalMAN 2019 correct this?

Nope. This ludicrous stupid bug has existed since 2016, at least. Looks crap, doesn't it?
