I have no problem getting an HDR 21-point grayscale calibration using the Samsung HDR legacy workflow with my 75Q9FN, but I found I need to have the pattern source set to HDR mode before setting the display to HDR mode to get the proper grayscale DDC (low of 34.7 for HDR vs. 7 for SDR). At least that's how it works for me.

EDIT: I have a Home Enthusiast license, maybe that's a limit for the Samsung Home license?

No, it's because you have a 2018 set. PD explicitly ripped out 20pt HDR Autocal support for 2019 sets.

That would make it impossible to get a proper 21 point calibration. Looks like they need to fix their API ...

Not impossible at all, and getting the info through the API would be marvelous, but it's not the only solution. Saumsung just needs to provide a list of adjustment points for each model and size, and then it's some straightforward UI work, and straightforward implementation. The telling and disappointing thing to me is in email I got from PD support about this last year: "If we do not know the greyscale points used for a given model, it is impossible to perform a multipoint autocal." What's that say about PD's relationship with Samsung, if Samsung can't be bothered to email them a list?

So you blame PD for what Samsung doesn't supply ... OK.

Good luck getting a calibration point list from Samsung. Be sure to share.

I don't know if anyone else is in a position to do this, but FYI: Since I now have two Home licenses, I installed the old Home 2019 R2 Beta on a second PC, since it's the only version that ever had a workable way to do HDR 20pt Autocal for my 75" Q90R. That Beta didn't yet have a C6 meter mode for 2019 QLEDs, but since I now have a profile for my Q90R, that doesn't matter. Also, to get that Beta to have the correct adjustment points, I have to connect as if to a Q900R rather than a Q90R, but it works. So I did an HDR Autocal (which has no 20pt) using the current 2020 release, and then one using that 2019 release, without moving the meter. Here's a comparison, with Pre having no 20pt and Post having 20pt. The Contrast setting is also different between the two, since 20pt gives more wiggle room.

BTW, the grayscale difference is more significant when looking at DEITP. Ignore the Avg and Max values in this screenshot, they're unfortunately still hardcoded to de2000 in the workflow. Calculated by hand:
Pre Gray: Avg: 7.35 Max: 23.9
Post Gray: Avg: 3.47 Max: 10.7
Pre Color: Avg: 9.81 Max: 15.5
Post Color: Avg: 7.7 Max: 16.7

Calman Autocal for Samsung

Hi I am new to this forum .I have a problem with Autocal for Samsung.I have an 82" QN900RB 8K tv.I have purchased all cables pattern generator and C6 meter from Calman.Printed of the walkthrough and tried to calibrate problem is It shows various errors when asked to find display?? most "notfound" have the correct port etc but thats about it.VideoForge pro is connected and found (do I need to connect the HDMI to tv?it says nothing about this or am I just dumb?) If I am missing something I cannot find what yet.Do I need to switch something on the TV to activate it? Love the advice if possible.
I am in New Zealand there is no help here.

You're using a serial cable plugged into the ExLink port on the OCB, or connecting via IP? What exactly is the error message?

Your VF Pro needs to be connected to your One Connect box via HDMI in addition to being connected to the PC via USB.

On your TV go to Settings / General / Network / Expert Settings and enable IP Control so Calman can connect to your display via IP. Once done when you tell Calman to connect you will get a popup in the upper right corner of your TV asking your permission to let Calman connect to the TV. Choose Allow and you should be in pretty good shape.

Hello guys!
I bought the Samsung Q80R 82" and I'm wondering what would be the least expensive meter for DIY calibration?

It looks like the Q80R has a peak brightness of about 1100 nits, so I suppose you might get by with a meter that's only good to 1000 nits, although one that's good to 2000 nits would be better. But if you don't have a way to profile the meter, and the meter doesn't have a selectable mode that matches the Q80R panel type, accuracy probably isn't going to be that great. You also need to figure out what pattern generator you're going to use, especially if you want to do HDR and/or use Autocal.

Edit: the 55" Q80R peak brightness is about 1100 nits. It's entirely possible the 82" is significantly higher; the 82" Q90R peak brightness is well above the 55/65/75".
Rolls-Royce and Nillaz like this.

Samsung Q900TS IP Connection

Trying to establish an IP connection in order to control DDC. Since no Samsung is listed, I am choosing the 2019 model. Should I be able to connect? It's not letting me establish a connection.

Are you trying to calibrate a 2019 or 2020 model?

DDC and Autocal are not supported for 2020 models yet.

If you have the hard wired Rs-232 connection device, there is a Link port on the 2020 Samsung's and it will work with CM just like the previous years units. You have to wiggle the plug into the connector the first time you use it. It's very tight. For the 2020 models the IP connect is not supported and will not work so don't waste time on that.
