100% noob to calibrating (beyond discs) What entry level hardware software?

Hello

I have a 138" .7 gain screen and an epson 5050UB projector. I am looking to calibrate HDR and SDR yielding better results than what I am getting from a disc.

I dont want to invest an overly large amount of money so I am essentially looking to get the cheapest (but most value/best results for the $) meter and software? and are there any good step by step how to guides for said software for beginners like me?

Thanks so much in advance.

Take a look at the x-rite i1Display Pro (hardware) and HCFR (software).

Also, with the i1Display Pro you can look at the free LightSpace ZRO software.
(And then get to understand what future possibilities there are with 3D LUTs, etc.)

https://www.lightillusion.com/lightspace_zro.html

You can also search this forum for more info on LightSpace.

There will not be a beta of the Free ColourSpace ZRO license.

That will be made available some time after ColourSpace is fully released, and out of beta testing.

Steve
I was referring to ColourSpace (full), not ColourSpace ZRO.

Indeed it does - where exactly is the 'free ColourSpace beta software' coming from?

Thanks guys

I managed to get a decent deal on the new i1 display pro plus.

Now that is out of the way I have a few questions. Keep in mind this is coming from a 100% newbie to this and will be used to calibrate a projector ( 5050ub )

- why would I not use the i1 oem software that's included? Wouldn't any software yield the same results and readings ?

- what third party software is recommended with this i1 colorimeter for best results ? AND is there a beginner guide with tips and tricks ?

- how do I ensure that the pc or laptop that is running the program isn't effecting color, brightness, contrast, grey level etc prior to the readings ? Wont there be a variance once I unplug and connect the 4k player or xbox ?

You have essentially answered your own question. You can use the i1Profiler software to calibrate your projector, but that will only take care of the colour-managed applications that you use from the computer. It will NOT do anything when you use your 4k player or Xbox, as the corrections are made on your computer, not on the projector.

The third party software takes you through steps to adjust the settings in the projector itself and hence is not limited the same way. Note, however, that the new i1Display Pro Plus may not be widely supported by third party software.

Oh no,

Are you aware if the HCFR software works with it?

We have been told by users the i1D3 PLUS works with LightSpace, using the same replacement dll as used for the standard Retail i1D3.
Information is provided within the LightSpace software download email.
(Or search this forum for more information.)

We have not yet verified this ourselves, as most users go with the OEM, as it is basically the same exact probe (apart from the lock code), and is usually cheaper.
