Calibration hardware

Hi,
I have a JVC LX-UH1 projector. I use a HTPC with MadVR.

I want to calibrate it, but I don’t know what hardware I need to measure color, brightness, etc.

I see people talking about 3D LUTs. I’m not sure if this is required but any info would be great!

Thank you.

I am trying to calibrate for HDR.

You may want to ask in the main MadVR thread. You'll likely get more info on supported meters and how to do your LUT there.

The hardware is just the probe you want to use.
Most calibration systems can use the i1D3, which is the cheapest, viable probe.

And then you need to decide on the calibration software.

Im a bit confused.

I was looking at the Displaycal Getting Started guide in their site.

It says to click calibrate, and that’s it.

Don’t I need to make the changes on the projector’s settings?

You’re using the wrong software. DisplayCAL is used primarily for computer displays, and the calibration software generates and saves the necessary corrections on the computer.

To calibrate a TV or projector you will need to use HCFR, CalMAN, ChromaPure, LightSpace etc.

Oh! Would I still use the color meter?

Do I also need ArgyllCMS? Install this first, then hcfr?

Then hcfr can use the ArgyllCMS supported colorimeter?

At the point I would use the colorimeter in HCFR and work from there?

Is there a guide for this program?

There’s a dedicated thread on HCFR. The first post includes links to tutorials and other useful information.

Hi there,
I finally got my color meter.

What correction would you use for the JVC DLPs? I see other JVC devices listed, but none for DLP.

The correction depends more on the light source than the panel technology. If it uses a UHP lamp then use the correction for projectors.

but he is using MadVR on his HTPC so DisplayCAL is fine to use and will correct any problems with the video chain.
