Totally not Xbox One related but a nice reminder of how far gaming has progressed (or not, depending on how you look at it):

Happy anniversary....

35 years ago, a video game revolution was sweeping through American culture. Shopping mall arcades were crammed with teenagers blasting menacing Space Invaders and lethal Asteroids to fading phosphorous particles. Cartridge-based home gaming consoles were beginning to catch on, bringing interactive entertainment into living rooms. University computer labs intended for scientific research were overrun with students programming their own electronic versions of Dungeons & Dragons. And with the coming of the 1979 Christmas shopping season, two revolutionary new home computers from Atari appeared on store shelves, machines which would forever change our perceptions of what PCs were capable of...

Nice grab. I'm 100+ hours into this game and am guessing about 1/2 way thru it. Lots to do and see to get side tracked with.

anyone know whether the XB1 or PS4 has better DVD upscaling to 1080p? I have both and am not 100% sure but I think the XB1 might be a little better

So I just got a new Pioneer SC-82 AVR and I am running 2.1 with no center channel. The only way I can hear voices in games like Forza Horizon 2 is if my audio is set to stereo uncompressed. Is that the only way without using an optical cable to hear voices in games? I've done some reading on Xbox forums but I trust you guys a little more.

Xbox One deals are definitely better then the PSN sales. I'm totally against buying Digital downloads because I get better deals on the discs especially after I sell/trade. That and I like the idea that if I do keep them, 10 years from now I'll still be able to play them...good luck with the Digital stuff because once live is gone, so are they.

Anyways, give me 30-40/50% off, now suddenly that doesn't matter

Ain't that the truth. 50+ hours in and only level 15 and one dragon killed. I feel like I have barely scratched the surface of the game.

I still have an original NES because it has games that are still fun to play today. Tecmo Super Bowl still gets my vote for best game ever.

If the MP was still supported and had a large player base in tact, I would still play Halo 2 and GOW.

I'm sorry--you lost me. What game are you talking about?

There are a number of games older than 3 years that I'd play again and plenty from the past 3 or 4; I played BioShock over last year and it was just as much fun as the first time. Some things hold up well, some not so much. I tried to play Fable Anniversary and while fun, the graphics, though updated, were far outdated. Halo: CE in Halo: MCC is also pretty quaint.

I hope I'm not playing an XBOne or PS4 ten years from now. I hope I've moved on to the next thing. I don't plan to ever buy a game disc again. This gen is digital only for me. With the exception of rentals.

Yes. It's been borked for me since I tried getting on over 30 minutes ago. At one point I got on from my 360, but then that went out too.

Both XBL and PSN have been having issues today.

Live is ok for me now. Had to power cycle my equipment this morning as the Internet was totally down at my house. Haven't had any issues since then.

Tried that and still have no Live. I get a message on the Xbox Setting saying Core services are down. Bummer for my Son since he has $60 in MS Money and was going to get Far Cry 4 Gold with his other money he had. Oh well I guess he gets to wait. So I guess the Ubisoft ban I was going for is not happening.

I feel for the people that just got a new console and are having issues. Seeing a lot of posts of people trying to download games and are unable. Real bummer for the kids who's excitemnet is turning into a let down.

hmmmm... so much for spending Christmas afternoon with the new games (Halo, Sunset Overdrive DLC).

But yeah, I feel for the people who just opened a new console and can't set it up. That's got to be frustrating!!!

Yeah I'm down also. Sucks because the only games I play require the live connection. I can get into a game but then repeatedly get booted or it dies once the system loses connectivity. Amazing that some sorry ass hackers can cause so much havoc.

I was able to get onto Live until about noon; after that, I've not been able to log in either.

I do wonder if the networks were really hacked or if they just couldn't handle the strain of all the new consoles being turned on and trying to download games, updates and whatnot all at the same time. I seem to recall this sort of thing happening before on Christmas and I've noticed that all my networked devices are somewhat laggy today.

So none of you read the tech press?
Lizard Squad DDOS'd PSN and XBL on Dec. 2nd and then threatened to do it again on Xmas day.
I was surprised I was able to play Destiny this AM because I expected it to be out all day.

Can anything be done on a Xbox One console when the Gamertag can't log in? I haven't been able to play anything I've tried.

I can play single-player games on the PS4 without accessing PSN.

You should still be able to log into your gamertag since it is local. If you can't sign in then go in settings and set your console to offline. Shouldn't be any different than the 360.
