One thing funny about Hinterland was how huge it was and not wanting to leave it be hind with a lot of stuff unfinished. I then read a post from one of the game designers and they stated that they wanted people out exploring as soon as possible. To me that just didn't seem right since there was so much to do at first! Yet they were right since when you left the Hinterlands the game really opens up!

Right now I am level 16 and have no main story line missions available. So I like the fact I can go do whatever I want and not feel pressured to go and complete a main quest right away.

Finally picked this up locally ($35). Any particular class to start off the game with? In Skyrim/Oblivion, I always preferred the 'human' classes with sword but at the same time, the dark mage classes still appealed to me more in hindsight.

The Mage pose an interesting class to play as, but I went as dwarf because they rarely are the star of the show. Some good conversations became of this.

Be sure to check out the links Sorax posted in post 78 - they were very helpful.

I played as an archer. While slightly weaker at the start the damage /control I was able to deal later in the game was significantly higher then the other characters.

I'm playing as a Qunari Rift Mage. It's a great time. I've crafted me some awesome gear and I can hit very hard. But I catch myself during battle just marveling at the dps of Cole. I have him hooked up with 2x350+ dps AOE daggers. Lots of Critical enhancements and when he strikes huge numbers just fly off the enemy.

So as much as I love my mage, consider playing as a dual wielding rogue if it fits your style. Of course, a great thing about this game is that you can take over any character at any time. So it lets you experience all the different classes and play styles as much as you desire.

Now that I've played far too much of this game, I think I can say that it has surpassed Baldur's Gate 2 as my favorite rpg. The world is beautifully rendered and so fleshed out with the best writing I've experienced. Nothing is without nuance. The combat is engaging and as tatical as you make it. Crafting system is deep. And there's such attention to detail at every turn. Like the way Skyhold evolves as your Inquisition grows and how armor molds to the character it's equipped to. Dragon Age Inquisition is a stunning achievement and I was very glad to see it get GotY from several outlets.

Its a well deserved GOTY. This is how you make a game folks. Other developers need to take notice. I wonder how long it took to make this game?

While I think DA:I is a excellent game....I think it falls short storywise when compared to some other of Bioware's games. The final battle was rather lame by comparison....so sense of real danger......so sense of involvement from ALL your crew/companions......no tough decisions with life or death consequences for companions or self.

Even the "Boolean" decisions in the game really didn't seem to matter much in terms of how the ending plays out.

I enjoyed DA:I a lot.....put ALOT of hours making sure to do every little quest........but its the first Bioware RPG that I do not have any desire to do subsequent playthrus with.

I think I mentioned this before, but my biggest gripe about the game for me is the stuttering cut scenes. That just takes away from a very very nice game.

I only really noticed it in the first couple cutscenes. Did it improve, or did I get used to it?

I'm at about 80 hours in. Any way I can tell how far I'm along in the story without spoiling the rest of the story?

Hard to say. I imagine you could do 80 hours doing misc quests and not advancing the main story line to much. Hell I'm almost level 17 (64 hours in) and I am just now getting to the part of picking my specialization for my Warrior (Going with a Champion).

What's the last main story mission you've done? Please use spoiler tags for others.

That's a tough one to nail down. I'm 215 hours in, 37% progress and am a level 18 Warrior. I've only done a few of the main quests maybe 3 or 4? I just don't remember. This game is so massive.

215?
I know once I turned off my Xbox while the game was in active state (not quitting or exiting to the title screen). When I started it up the next day there was 20 hours added to my play time, even though the Xbox was "off" during those hours.

I wonder if that's the case here?

215 is the reading when I compare hours played to other players on their gamertags . It's over 500 hours when looking at the save files, which is because of the suspended mode. I had 180 hours on Skyrim back on the 360.

OCD is strong with this one. I've even started flipping all the light switches in my house three times before I go to bed so something bad doesn't happen.

I had somewhere in the 150hr mark for Skyrim. Amazing value. You get your monies worth with these games. I think its all I played for most of that year.

I finally finished the story a couple weeks ago... hit triple digits on hours played and enjoyed every second of it. So did the kids who just wanted to ride the horses and horse like creatures, and just wanted to explore.

Even though they got totally destroyed by dragons most of the time (I lead them to the good stuff), just helping them was a proud moment.

Movies and phone/tablet games simply do not create such grand scale experiences. Crank up the volume and long live consoles!

I hate to say this but bring on the DAI DLC, just name the price - sold! Wanted it yesterday.

Agreed!

I never understood why DLC is released so late. Wouldnt they want to release it when everyone is still hot on the game? People will move on to other things if it gets 6 months after its originally release date.

I'm doing all side activities first. One of the first games where I am wanting do ALL of them. It just hasn't gotten old. Some of the levels are just gorgeous. I don't get to play often though, just a few hours a week. 76hrs in. I might finish it this year

Yes its borked. If you still have a save point prior to last dragon kill , you can keep reloading that checkpoint until you get 10 kills.
