Use the cable from avr to tv with Xbox to tv and see if it shows the same. If it shows the same it's the cable.

Actually, checked one of the 5810 AVR settings, changed a 4k setting from mode 2 to mode 1 and I get all green!

I haven't read through the whole thread but how do you guys find the UHD Blu-ray player back. To me blu-rays look better on a standard Blu-ray player. On my Samsung un65js9500 UHD HDR on Amazon prime is 1000 times better then the UHD disks through the Xbox one S. I have all my settings correct everything passing correct is it just that it's a bad player

I see very little difference between UHD playback on my XB1S and my Philips, the XB1S is a perfectly capable player with the exception of the current public software not decoding Atmos, I'd suggest there's something wrong in your setup if you're seeing that notable of a difference.

Does anyone have the IMAX Flight of the butterflies UHD blu-ray? This will only output at 1920x1080 rather than 4k through my Xbox One S. Other 4k movies output fine and my resolution is set to 4k.

Any ideas? I tried a hard reboot.

Silly question if I had a 1080P tv and playing 4k UHD BD on a Xbox one S will the picture quality be better than if I just played a 1080P BD?

I just tried mine. It played back in 4K/HDR without any issues. Are you sure you are playing the right disc? It comes with two discs. One with the 4K/ HDR and SDR versions. And one disc with the 2K/ 2D and 3D versions.

Wow... so odd. Yes I checked the disc and it's even prompting me when I start playing if I want HDR or SDR and I also have Atmos as a choice in the audio settings. (Not sure if the 2d/3d versino are also Atmos)

Ok, so i'm new to this board, and the XBox One S format, but i'm having issues with both the Netflix App and Amazon, was wondering if somebody had an answer.

Netflix issue: HDR is enabled on my tv the moment i open Netflix App, before i've even selected a movie.

Amazon issue: I can't even find a UHD category on the app. The only time i can find a UHD version is when i click on the "recently watched" sub-folder, however, when i select whatever title it never enables the hdr on my tv.

I know both issues are xbox one s related because my tv operates correctly when using the native apps, I'm just wondering if i'm missing something? TIA.

There isn't currently an HDR Amazon app on the XBox One S. Supposedly an early release was spotted in December and a few people successfully got it for a few days but then it went away again - we can assume Amazon are working on this still but so far, no sign of it.

Netflix has been borked since the XBOne S release in early August. Surprisingly they have not fixed it yet. The Netflix app triggers HDR as soon as it's opened. Instead of only when playing an HDR title.

Finally Amazon hdr and normal app! Just watch GT and looked great and TV popup hdr. Watched again from LG app and pretty much looks the same. Xbox took a bit longer to "normalize". Nice to see Vudu hdr, can't get it through 2015 LG. Just started Pacific Rim, looks as good as the disk.

I bought the new NVidia Shield TV and I'm not sure the One S would make much sense for me. I have the original Xbox One which I may not use anymore since I can stream my games now. PLus with Netflix and Amazon streaming more and more 4K, will people still be buying 4K blu rays?

I got an email from Amazon this morning letting me know that there is an update to their app (for the Xbox). I was hoping that the update would add HDR!

Streaming video won't compete with BD until it starts being streamed at higher bit rates. 16-20 Mbps streaming video will not compare to UHD BD video at 60 Mbps or more.

Yeah. The Amazon app doesn't seem to support 4K yet. It has the labels on the poster thumbs if the 4K version of the title is in your list of recently watched titles or on your Watchlist, but there are no UHD genre rows. There were such in the beta version which recently leaked, so maybe there were problems with it and they decided to add it in a future release. At least it has the resolution indicator; that version of the UI on Roku lacks it, which worried me.

Yes. The UHD(non HDR) streams from Amazon, Netflix, and Vudu seem to be around equal to the 2K BD in quality.

FandangoNOW has a selection of "Vidity" UHD titles, available for download if purchased to a Vidity HDD connected to a Vidity complaint device with the FandangoNOW app. It's been a couple of years since that system launched and AFAICT it's still limited to Samsung TVs (and possibly UHD BDPs; I know that they have a FandangoNOW app and can play the videos which come with Samsung's UHD HDD pack).

FandangoNOW's Vidity FAQ says that the average movie download consumes 60GB (here), which is 66 Mbps, assuming a 2 hours length (60GB × 8-bits-per-byte = 480 Gbits = 480000 Mbits ÷ 7200 secs = 66.66 Mbps). That rate should yield pretty high PQ.

Vudu is solid (fiancially) and has the best overall GUI, picture & sound quality (UHD, Atmos, etc).

They are a subsidiary of a subsidiary of NBC/Universal. It's a rebadging of M-Go, which is about 4 years old. It's parent company Fandango (a movie-time-and-tickets service) has been around for sixteen years. I'm not too worried about it disappearing.

Does anyone know if there is better cable tv upscaling if you run cable through the Xbox One s or connect the cable tv.stb direct into the tv?

I have Comcast X1 stb and a Samsung KS8000 tv. I've gone through most of this thread from the beginning and didn't see an answer.

because the answer is "it depends." You really have to try it out to see which is better. If you're good with the picture quality of the passthrough, then I would retain it merely for the pretty good Xbox integration with the OneGuide and being able to do things like play games and watch TV simultaneously (though the TV snap feature is going to disappear soon but it may be replaced with a Picture-in-Picture overlay feature.

But keep in mind the HDMI passthrough cannot conduct a 4K signal. But that's not an issue with cable TV.
