Free copy of Gears of War 4 for the PC/Xbox One with purchase of Nvidia's GTX 1070 and GTX 1080 cards.

http://www.theverge.com/2016/9/20/12...-1070-gtx-1080

Microsoft is teaming up with Nvidia to give away free copies of Gears of War 4. If you purchase a GTX 1070 or GTX 1080 as a graphics card, part of a system, or inside a laptop then you'll get a free copy of Gears of War 4. The promotion runs from today until October 30th, and as the game is Xbox Play Anywhere you'll get a copy of the PC version and Xbox One variant for free.

While graphics card game bundles are common on the PC side, it's unusual to see Microsoft pairing up with Nvidia. Microsoft currently uses AMD chips inside its Xbox One, but there's speculation the company may make the move to Nvidia in the future. Such a move would be surprising, especially for Xbox developers, but Microsoft is planning to release a more powerful "Project Scorpio" Xbox console next year. Microsoft hasn't revealed exact specs, but the GPU has the same memory bandwidth as Nvidia's GTX 1080 graphics card for PCs.

Gears of War 4 will debut on October 11th, and Microsoft revealed that the title went gold yesterday so there won't be any unexpected delays. Gears of War 4 also supports Cross Play across Xbox One and Windows 10 in all of the game's modes, furthering Microsoft's gaming alliance between PC and Xbox. If you play on both PC and Xbox One then all achievements and game progress is automatically synced between the two.

I am sincerely thinking of doing that. I am going to call the store this morning when they open and ask for a code since this was purchased 48 hours ago, either they cough one up, or I will be in to return it and buy it again, and they an take the loss on this one having to be an open box resale.

Just spoke to the guys at Memory Express and they emailed me a code right away, suggest if anyone bought one recently to try the same, could save ya $80.

Thanks for the suggestion! I got a GTX 1070 back in June directly from Nvidia. Just emailed support to see if I was eligible for the GOW4 promotion, but will shocked if they say yes.

Worth a try, though.

Rented NBA 2K17 today. Never play sports games so I wasn't too impressed with the game itself. More of a FPS guy. HDR does work (using Samsung JS8500 TV), but again was not that impressed by the PQ. Colors a little more saturated, but was not a dramatic difference between SDR and HDR. No noticeable lag, but it may not be that big of a deal for sports games as opposed to shooters. Looking forward to Battlefield 1 next month.

Anyone familiar with HDMI-CEC on the Xbox One S? I'm curious how it works and their are no demo videos on Youtube. There are also some reddit post of folks claiming it doesn't have it. Is there anyone with any experience with it?

Thoughts on HDR in game? Have you tried it on a non HDR tv to compare differences?

I don't think either of those statements are true.

You can't universally say all TVs process HDR as expediently as SDR.

Also you can't say a camera sensor and computer monitor can't capture the dynamic brightness/levels of colors that HDR provides vs SDR. Sure it's not as effective as seeing it inperson, but it can very much show the difference. A competent photographer should be able to do a pretty good job at showing how it looks.

These photos should be much more accurate than the HDR images that many media articles use to the show HDR vs SDR. HDR photography is different than HDR video, but HDR photography is often used to try and show the difference in article about HDR10.

If you use an external camera you can see a difference(even though it won't be accurate). Like try taking a picture of your painted house wall and then taking to the store to get a matched paint. But capturing it from the frame buffer is entirely different.

Sorry if this has already been discussed but I just got a One S and I went to watch Netflix and noticed that my Vizio M55-C2 built in APP looks better than Netflix on the One S. One S is louder but doesn't look as good as the Netflix APP that comes built in with the TV. My One S is set to 4K and even states 2160 in the info. Both picture settings are exactly the same. I flipped back and forth between the same 4K show at exactly the same time in each show. What gives?

I just booted the PC version on Ultra @ 1440p after playing for many hours on the Xbox One S HDR version. I have to tell you, even though the pc version had great texture, the overall lighting felt so flat compare to a HDR version of the game. It is that dramatic.

No one can tell u because we have no idea how your X1S is connected. Directly to the tv? Or Sound bar/Surround? Which HDMI Port? HDMI 5 on your display is the only port that does [email protected]

Mine is on 3 my gaming PC is on 5 so I can do 4K and [email protected] I have the M65-C1. Double check display settings match you can independently set color setting for the apps vs HDMI. I personally prefer the app vs the Xbox. This was the case on my 2011 Samsung LEd for HBO Go looked better thru the app than the 360 and Xbox 1

it does. remember what you guys said about how Netflix looks terrible?

that's what HDR10 looks like in games on the One S with the Vizio. NBA 2K17 has a haze over the entire screen. it's been gray or purple when I play. I assume Forza Horizon 3 is also the same.

FH3 looks just like what Netlfix looks like. You can exit out to the home screen and see the same washed out look. Had to turn HDR off for the Vizio, but it still looked great even without HDR. On my smaller 43" LG with HDR (but not as good a HDR implementation on the TV), it looks pretty good. I only played for a few minutes on the LG and they weren't daytime driving so I couldn't really get a feel for it.

It's a flat profile image like a log profile. Your TV is not processing the metadata that tell the TV how to display the image. It's so sad because I think the game looks better on Xbox than PC. HDR10 makes everything better !

So no hdr10 support on the PC - this is sad . So with a 1080 get 4K but no HDR

WoW!! Earlier I tried it for 15 minutes with the HDR setting off on the XBOne. There is a huge difference with HDR off. Everything looks flat and lifeless. Everything looks so much better with HDR on. After seeing the difference I think I might have a hard time playing it on my DLP set. If I ever get my primary viewing location set back up.

there are no PC monitors with HDR anyway. HDR PC monitors are going to hit big next year. So those shopping for monitors, hold off for a few months.
