Hey onlysublime - I would like to recommend that the OP be modified to separate what games currently have an HDR option in one list, and a second list for confirmed future updates or releases.
As the post reads now, the current list is somewhat confusing which games have the HDR option today, i.e. Battlefield 1.
Thanks for listening!
Updated. Actually, Battlefield 1 and Hitman are the only confusing titles. All the others are either not even released yet or are confirmed to have it. Titles like ReCore have been announced that they will get HDR with a reasonably listed timeframe so that's better than what was shown with BF1.
In an interview with GamingBolt, Masachika Kawata, the producer of Resident Evil 7, confirmed that the game will run at 60fps and 1080p on PS4 and Xbox One, both. He also confirmed that the game will support HDR on Xbox One S, PS4, and PS4 Pro.
“When it comes to new hardware, I think that the biggest takeaway is just making sure that it’s not just one party that is excited about this product,” he said. “It really has to be a mutual interest on both the manufactures side, publisher side, [and] consumer side. And only when everyone is on board and everyone’s excited for the product does it allow the opportunity to expand the game industry and the user base. Because otherwise it’s just a lot of extra effort on our side.”
Digital Extremes recently released Warframe’s latest content update, The War Within, on PC and consoles. With the free-to-play game about to enter its fourth year, we had a long chat with Studio Manager Sheldon Carter about the future updates and fixes that Digital Extremes is preparing for Warframe.
We’ll begin today by taking a look at the latest technologies and their upcoming implementation/support in Warframe.
You said that HDR support is being worked on for Xbox One S. Also, which graphics elements do you think HDR particularly highlights in Warframe?
Our work on getting HDR support for the Xbox One S is going to pave the way for PlayStation 4 and PC as well. There’s not a lot I can say since it’s still in its early stages, but it will allow for wider brightness and colour ranges. This will help bring out the details in brighter areas, as well as adding richer, deeper shadows.
Make room for a much better game as Mass Effect: Andromeda has confirmed support for HDR.
Bioware GM Aaryn Flynn has been a pretty prolific Twitter user for awhile now and lately he has been responding to question after question from fans on Twitter. We told you the other day about how he revealed the game will not have a season pass and now he is back at it again.
Flynn was first asked if Mass Effect: Andromeda would have HDR Support on Xbox One and PS4/PS4 Pro, in which he responded “Yes.” This is great news, as HDR is definitely proving to make a difference in games that are currently taking advantage of it. While this only confirmed HDR support for consoles, he was also asked about PC as well.
"As an example, think of 47 in a dark room looking out a bright window. Without HDR you would not be able make out what's outside, whereas with HDR you can simultaneously see details inside the room and outside the window," explained IOI Programmer Anders Wang Kristensen.
"Another extreme example is the sun. Without HDR we could not render the sun brighter than a white piece of paper, so we had to ‘simulate’ the sun being blinding. With HDR we can draw the sun several times brighter, so that it is actually close to being blinding, just like in real life."
Square Enix has confirmed to VideoGamer that the HDR update applies to Xbox One S, PC, PS4 Pro, and PS4.
