Nothing official yet. I assume it will have online team deathmatch and co-op missions like the last game. So far, a battle royale mode is just a rumor. Rockstar has been pretty quiet on details regarding online play other than announcing a public beta will be available a month after the game releases.

Ok that was 100% mockery......they are seriously going to add this?

NOTE: Rockstar will probably make it the most ridiculous tongue-in-cheek send up of the absurd Battle Royale craze......so honestly I'm all for it, it will be epic, but it's just funny (to me) because I had no idea they were even considering it

Oh...lol. I actually think they will have a battle royale mode. Some website (trusted reviews) actually received a whole bunch of leaked information about Red Dead Redemption 2 last summer, but chose not to release any of it. Apparently with all the stuff that has been leaking out the last few days, it matches the information trusted reviews received last summer. In the information are all the details of online modes and there is a battle royale mode. I just think with how popular battle royale is, I think its safe to assume Red Dead Redemption 2 will have it.

EDIT: If you want to read about the leak, here you go:

I hope they have a good multiplayer. With first person modes, they could go fast paced shooter. Battlefield type modes if they wanted.

Plus all the GTA V online stuff they are probably doing, they could own everything. Guess we will see what this engine is capable of soon enough.

Bestbuy delivered the game one day early played a few hours yesterday. Just wondering how many people are playing this game in HDR with Luminance turned up all the way? The game suggests 100 for LCD and 300 for OLED but I find 100 too dim for my TV.

No sound issues here. About 2 hours in. Graphics are unparalleled on console. Character animations, creatures, environment are all stunning.

I love how you can switch on fly to cinematic camera and as long as you hold A you stay on trail/following Dutch or others. It's like watching a movie while you play. So cool.

Playing on a Vizio P65 and with the HDR setting at the recommended setting of 100 for LCD, it just doesn’t look right. The image is very flat and reminds me of when you try and play back HDR on a tv that doesn’t support it (minus the obvious washed out appearance). Speculate highlights just don’t fall off properly with this setting to my untrained eye. Setting it to 300 seems to bring it inline with what you’d expect an HDR presentation to look like.

I’ve yet to test it in SDR to get a baseline for standard luminance. Other than that, it’s a beautiful game (especially on the X) with great attention to detail, albeit with clunky, sometimes unresponsive and unintuitive controls that make you want to throw your controller.

So, typical Rockstar. Haha. Still enjoying it though.

I think 100 Luminance is based on LCD being able to output 1000 nits but it obviously will vary by type of LCD screen, that's why 300 was recommended for OLED because they don't get very bright. My LCD can only display 600 nits so 300 sounds about right.

Few hours in. Beautiful game, and it gets much better once you can go wherever. Opening hours were slow, but set up the story.

Still learning the controls. As someone said, typical Rockstar game, lol. Had a few spots where I just couldn't get what I wanted just right. Frustrating, but no big deal.

This is a world I want to spend time in.

Frustrating are the animations on John Marston in the first game.....they're all too long and can't really be cancelled, something that greatly improved in GTAV when the controls finally (for the first time in a GTA game) felt "tight". In the first game you see a ladder you want to climb...you run up to it..OH you're off a bit because your guy has a slow-down animation and you over shot the ladder, so you nudge it a bit to the right..Ooops the 'turn right" animation meant you kind of over shot it again, ok so you nudge left HEY you got it...except now you're shot to death. Whoops. Even when you're just walking around in the first game you feel like you're basically riding an invisible horse.

You pretty much described Red Dead 2. Haha. I think it’s to add weight to everything, but it’s very frustrating at times, especially if you want to use free aim mode. There have been instances where I have to enable snap on aiming to get through a section. Mainly in the opening section before dead eye is introduced.

Controls aside, the game is a lot of fun. Graphically it’s one of the best I’ve seen, and native 4k on the X is jaw dropping. And the audio is great too, though I would have liked Dolby Atmos support. I just spent 2 hours exploring the world. It’s really great with a lot to do.

When its you versus 20 hombres I find using the semi-auto or auto aim modes in GTA games makes the most sense/fun for me. Those games have pretty clunky gunplay controls when using a joypad, and trying to play the game using standard no-assist aiming always was just frustrating for me.....because the turning animations and the cover antimaions would get in the way, those guys were swarming around you and you're struggling just to get a bead on a cop in one direction while 4 more get you from behind, think it was usually a dead-zone issue for me. That's not fun. I figure in these games, its you versus the world...so you need an advantage. Being a dead-eye gunslinger (autoaim) lends itself to that narrative, in a game like this semi-auto is where I'd start and see if I could dial in the controls. But like...in the first game, being on my horse and trying to shoot, example, the DLC zombies....yeah good luck doing that without auto-aim, unless you enjoy doing things like climing on roofs nad lining up perfect head-shots for 10 minutes just to re-save a town you saved half an hour earlier (i don't).

In chapter 3 now. I've seen some really cool things. KKK run in was pretty great. Just happened upon them by accident. They died wonderfully!

The world is just crazy. So many times I've just spotted something, went closer and it was something I could interact with. The games, fishing, hunting, are all well done. I've spent hours doing those activities just enjoying the game world. Very immersive. The movement is a pain, but it helps to slow you down and make you think. I'm really enjoying this more than I thought I would. It's getting much better as you continue on.

So I ended up playing in SDR for a few hours yesterday. At first glance, it looks more vibrant with more pop than the HDR version. This is with default in game brightness, which was spot on. What I started noticing, though, is that the contrast is higher in SDR, resulting in a small amount black crush in certain areas.

After playing a few hours, I felt I had a good idea of how Rockstar meant for the game to look. I ended up switching to HDR and settling on a setting of 200 for HDR luminance. At 300 it becomes too washed out on my Vizio P65 with FALD enabled. 200 puts it pretty much in-line with the base luminance of SDR with the added benefit of more pop in the specular highlights and more detail in the shadows while still remaining dark and inky in spots.

The game has a hazy look to it, and this is down to developer intent. I don’t think it’s meant to look super saturated or vibrant. It is the bleak old west after all. With that said, I’m done tweaking and will focus on actually playing. Haha.

Spoilers? KKK was in the first game. Didn't think their name was a spoiler. On purpose left it vague so no other hint could be figured.
