Agreed, but I imagine they are thinking most people are upgrading and will probably have external hard drives to plug in already. My guess is the 1TB drive helps keep the cost down. Though with 4K assets I'm going to have to get a bigger external drive as well and take my current 2TB and move it to my second Xbox One which is just using the internal drive. Probably will go with 4TB or bigger this time around.

Ebay you'll get $150+ all day as long as you market it correctly (good pictures detailed images, etc)
I'll get more from GameStop if they have a trade in deal. And I'll get the credit instantly. With eBay I will lose 15% to 20% for eBay fees, PayPal fees, and shipping. Plus the process takes much longer. It not worth it for literally around the same amount of money in my pocket.

I'm surprised it's not smaller. Personally I don't even use the internal drive for storing any games or apps with my two XB1S systems. So I would have preferred a 500GB drive and a lower price for the XB1X.

The GameStop hate is a bit over the top...are they the best...nope...but I agree 100% with Aaron above. As of right now (I just checked my app), $120 for a launch Xbox One S (1Tb) trade credit or $96 cash. If you are a Rewards member you get 10% bonus so $132. And that is without ANY promotions. Many times they will run trade-in promotions that bump your trade up to 40% so you could snag $168 on the launch One S. If you have the 2Tb model right now it's $150 trade credit (or $210 with 40% trade credit).

And right now, they are running $50 bonus credit toward the purchase of ANY new Xbox One console. So you'd get $170 for the launch S/1Tb and $200 for the 2Tb.

So if by "not much more" than $75 you meant almost 100% more than you stated, you are exactly right!

EDIT: Also, no 'swoopy' marketing needed, no shipping required, no hassles as long as the original accessories are in the box. Done and done.

Also, no chance that the buyer will try scam you by saying the console never arrived, leaving you with no console and no money. I will never use that cesspool called eBay again. I've been burnt one too many times as a seller and a buyer. It's just not worth the hassle IMO.

Dolby Atmos is the newest piece of sound technology from the company, and features an object-based audio system that makes it sound as though things are above you, as well as to the sides and behind you as with a traditional surround sound setup.

The technology, which is available on both Xbox One S and Xbox One X consoles, support both speakers and headphones, although if you want to use the latter then you'll have to pay a one-off $14.99 fee to enable it in your console.

A representative clarified that this charge is due to the fact that Atmos-enabled home theater equipment already includes an Atmos licence, a pair of headphones does not.

However, if you want to use headphones you don't need to buy new equipment, your existing pair should work just fine.
This article states what I believed to be true, if you plan on using speakers ONLY, there is no cost associated with Atmos on Xbox one.

ONLY if you plan on using HEADPHONES with Atmos do you have to pony up the $14.99 licensing fee.

Over in the Atmos thread in the receiver section, an AVS user was convinced that anyone wanting Atmos in game had to pay the licensing fee, whether they used speakers OR headphones.

To each their own. I have tremendous success selling online vs. what I could do at GameStop even with rewards and such. Especially using Amazon as opposed to eBay.

It works very well because it uses HRTF.

This isn't encoded with Atmos mind you but uses the same principle.

You can download the Dolby Access app and enable it for a one month trial and find out for yourself. I've tried it, and I don't get any sense of front/back/height at all. Sounds pans from left to right, and there's a bit of reverb to the sound that's not normally there, other than that it's plain old stereo. I'm not buying the $15 license. YMMV

Did you try it with a title that had Atmos?

It does basically what every gaming headset does minus the mixamp. Virtual surround sound. I doubt you would get height sound due to no games having atmos yet. I've read problems about reverb sound. I tried windows sonic and didn't care for sound quality. I think I read there still working on both though

No real hate for Gamestop, I buy a lot of things there but, they dont pay much so I normally keep or find another source to sell

I used ebay as an example. My experience with selling stuff at gamestop. A 2 week old game, still selling on the shelf for $59.99, top rated high demand game, they would only pay $22-25. And many people say the same thing (they are nicknamed "game-rip-off" all over the place). The same game, I would drop on ebay with $5 shipping and would sell within 1 hour for $50. UNLESS they are offering a promition of some type most times they are very cheap.

Ebay fees....10% off the top and about 2.6 - 3% on paypal fees (and charge for shipping with a $2-4 handling fee to cover your shipping fees). For a Xbox one S 500gb, game stop wont offer you more than $75-99 (say $100). If you sell on ebay, today, you could ask $160-170 buy it now and it would sell rater quick (if in mint shape and complete)...and get it, so even after all fees, you will see $30-40 or more in your pocket and in cash (after the 3 day transfering).

Just saying, but, personally, I would end up on one of those apps on my phone like "letgo" or "offerup", When I got my Xbox one S 500gb (I picked it up on black friday from Amazon with a game and 3 months xbox live for $163.50), I dropped my old PHAT Xbox one on letgo, within 2 days, I sold it for $225. No fees and cash in hand you just have meet someone.

Just some thoughts, as you were looking to get a XBOX ONE X for the best deal possable(sub $399). With the discount giftcard thing and getting the MOST POSSABLE for your current system, The $500 Xbox One X will not be hard to bite once you do your homework here.

In fact, you might be able to walk away getting a Xbox One X feeling like you almost stole it for the price you end up getting if you do a lot of homework. It is possable with a little time here and there to find these things.

But when it comes down to it, to each their own. There is ways to get top dollar for your device.

Agreed 100%, When Xbox one games are hitting 100gb with a DLC (Gears 4 after updates was 120gb or something), now we are talking 4K games with 4K textures. My 500gb Xbox One S's internal HD has 6 games on it and it's full.

If your buying a 1gb Xbox one X, plan to buy an External 5tb drive, as if your any bit hardcore, you will regret not having it.

Fair points all around Dave - but what got me on my soapbox was the "$75 for an Xbox One S - if you're lucky" comment. Wasn't trying to imply that you couldn't get better deals elsewhere, just that GameStop is a decent alternative if you take advantage of promotions.
Also - you do accrue points with purchases/trade-ins at GameStop so I can use those as well for discounts.

And I totally agree with your take when it comes to games - better off with ebay/craigslist most of the time but GameStop makes it so convenient that, for me, it's not worth if for an extra $10-20 as I value my time more than most people (that's just a fancy way of saying that I'm lazy).

I am not sure that the console market can afford the licensing fees from Dolby Labs or that they see it as an important selling feature to their market.

The Official Xbox One X thread

Well, remember when I said I was not getting a 4k TV anytime soon. Well...

Back in February we noticed a very faint line going horizontally across the screen about 1/4 down from the top edge on our 4 year old LG. It was only about 1 pixel wide. I had bought the Best Buy protection plan and finally decided to call them about it yesterday (since the plan expires in August).

Well BB doesn't even want to send a tech out and they have offered to exchange the TV. I called there exchange line today and was initially offer a Sony XBR-55X850D. I've never been a huge Sony and after a few minutes of reading here at AVS I wasn't sure I wanted that TV. So I called the exchange line back. They are now going to send me store credit in the amount of 1,043.99 so I can chose the TV I want in store. They also said I can do whatever I want with the old LG.

So, I now have options.

1) Get a new TV, the best 55" I can find for $1000.

2) Split the money between a cheaper TV and a new AVR. I love my Denon 2808 though, it sounds amazing but, can't pass-through 4k and doesn't support ARC. Means I would be stuck using optical with the One X and not getting any high res audio.

3) Keep my old TV and put all the money towards the One X and maybe a Switch. Or just other goodies at Best Buy like some new over the ear headphones. The line on the old TV is really only noticeable when I look for it, right.

Thoughts? What would some of you do? I currently only have 1080p. What are some great quality TVs around 55" for $1000 or less?

3) Keep my old TV and put all the money towards the One X and maybe a Switch. Or just other goodies at Best Buy like some new over the ear headphones. The line on the old TV is really only noticeable when I look for it, right.

Thoughts? What would some of you do? I currently only have 1080p. What are some great quality TVs around 55" for $1000 or less?
You might want to check out the TCL P Series, it's only $600 but has largely been regarded as having picture quality near as good as a Vizio P Series or Samsung KS8000, both of which were last year's best mid range options, and both of which cost about $1000. The TCL also has very very good input lag for gaming. This would let you keep several hundred to put towards a receiver.

Search best buy for "55P605", they are just starting to get them in stock in some areas, but it's a slow rollout, seemingly.

I've tried the demos built into the app, which are Atmos - no sense of front/back/height. Just plain old stereo. And with standard DVD's, since it is supposed to be a virtual surround sound, I assume I should hear sound all around me, if not above me. Playing many hours of games with it enabled, plus checking out movies, I get no sense of anything other than stereo. Would be cool to get a bit of depth for when I game with headphones, but I'll be saving my $15.

I hear ya, this is why I said to each their own. Some people, $10-25 is not worth that much or a little work. I dont think dropping a game or system on ebay takes very long, take a picture with your phone, upload it and tell a little on how it is, under 5 min and you could net $15-25+ for you game. And maybe it's another few min to drop into a box and slap a lable on when it sold, I drop it off at work....Easy... maybe 15-20 min for about $25+ sure my time is worth more but, it's time when I would be watching TV or something.

Game stop is known by people to low ball them on consoles, I personaly know someone who was offered $75 for a Xbox One S 500gb with 1 controller and no game (he was looking to change to a PS4). This is why I refered to $75. A joke.

My problem will be, if I sell my console before the "X" comes out, I wont have my system to play with, if I wait till AFTER it's release, my console will be worth less.

Hunting down the discount cards would be the best bet for most people. Just my post yesterday, Gamestop gift cards were 15% off their price (enough of them would of netted a $500 console for $425). When it comes down it and you play your cards right, a hanfull of cards for 15-20% off, you could get the Xbox One X for $400-425 before trading in/selling you Xbox One S...

Getting a $500 console on release day for $400-425, no matter how you look at it is a steal. The discussion of waiting till next year to see it for $399 came up, this is why I posted this.

After this discussion, I am really thinking abot taking the quest to see how low I can possably get this console for. I could see $400 or even $375...not including selling my console. I have a few months to gather stuff.

There is nothing wrong with being a hardcore gamer with a budget in mind...and a marrage. I can afford it no problem but, I dont have money by paying full retail for everything. It's always a fun quest to see if I CAN get it cheaper.

I 2nd what @theboomr said @rolltide1017 since as far as bang for the buck right now it's going to be near impossible to beat the value you'll get on that TCL - especially for gaming. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles and does have some drawbacks but then again, that's why it's only $600. I'd check the TCL owner's thread for all the details of what makes this set so great and what is not so great to make it sell for a fraction the cost of other sets with similar features.

I'd then recommend accessories4less.com for your A/V receiver. I've bought 2 AVRs off that site in recent years with no issues whatsoever. Saved over 50% on both and they are well regarded by many on AVSForum from what I've seen.

I'd also keep an eye out for Open Box buys at BestBuy and compare what you find to rtings.com reviews. You can also use rtings.com to view best TVs by size/price which can also help you towards making an informed decision.

Have you tried windows sonic? I go to the Dolby test tones and try 7.1.2. The back speakers are the only ones that don't sound different then the sides but the top does sound like it's coming above. Tried it last night.
