That ship has sailed. Just like with the PS4 Pro, most games will opt for a higher resolution. Although some games do give you the option of higher resolutions or a higher frame rate with less detail.

Personally I'll take the higher detail at 30P if given a choice.

I don't think you are out of date. Games like Overwatch obviously need new characters, maps, etc to keep people interested, but that's because it's an online only game. I believe its the same with games such as Battlefront 2, COD, Battlefield, etc. You can only play the same multiplayer maps for so long before it gets old so to keep people interested, you get new DLC every few months or so. When it comes to single player games, I'm the same way a you. I look forward to the release, play and beat it, then move on to another game. If expansions come out, I'll go back and play it more.

I've been running Merlin firmware for years on my AC68U and the X1 was pretty stable and Open NAT most of the time, but the X1X just doesn't play nice on the same network.

I've noticed a reserved IP via wired, even when it has access to the original Live ports via this connection, often reports a Moderate NAT and found that the X performs best when assigned an IP from the DHCP when wired or via either method on wireless.

Someday I wonder if this size will eventually be developed so as to not require a power source.

Why bother publishing a game in 1080p at 60fps, and risk alienating your newest, most enthusiastic audience?
Your train of thought seems very regressive, dare I say . . . backwards.
The present is always the time to embrace the newest, most desirable technologies.

Not all games need to run at 60fps. And the few games that do need to run at 60fps can (in most cases) be adjusted accordingly without sacrificing significant graphics/effects to support 4K resolution.

Due to hardware speed/power limitations.

That is not true, it is likely going to vary from game to game.

If a dev team targets 4K60, they will disable extra visual effects and rendering techniques in order to hit that performance target. Rise of the Tomb Raider is a great example of three different options where you balance either performance over resolution, meet in the middle with extra rendering techniques and effects enabled at higher resolution scaled up to 4K, or 4K native rendering with effects turned off.

They seem to be speaking purely from the power tradeoff between resolution vs. framerate because you can't have it all for every game, particularly the demanding ones.

Hmm, 4K and 60 isn't about embracing "the newest, most desirable technologies" it has been around some time.

Personally my preference is meeting in the middle at 1800p upscaled and a 60fps target with the extra rendering techniques, if push comes to shove.

Yes it is called optimizing in the directions I explained since it is still a finite amount of budget/power.

This system is not like the PowerPC chip in the 360 or the Cell processor in the PS3 where it takes a long time for the power to be realized due to unique architecture vs. a PC. The Xbox and PS4 both share the same X86 architecture that PC uses. The One X is nothing more than a higher clocked CPU/GPU with faster RAM and more compute units.

We've already seen most of the gains from the faster hardware, optimization will have nominal gains. That isn't to say that the One X did not bring a lot to the table as far as performance increases, just don't expect too much more to be eked out.

I agree, which is why I didn’t buy the 8 TB drive. I can’t even fill 4 TBs yet.

In an attempt to protect my OLED I wanted to change the HUD Opacity in Destiny 2. There does seem to be a change when I go from the defult Full down to high but no change from High to low. I guess my question is which setting provides the more transparency?

At 4:50 in that ^^^ video, they seem to indicate something I suspected - Bungie says they had to keep parity in framerate between Xbox One and Xbox One X.

I think this is why we might not see as many framerate upgrades to console titles for the X. If the game is locked at 30fps on XB1, there's a good chance the developer will need to keep that framerate consistent for the X Enhanced version, particularly if the main game has an on-line component.

This is definitely a hot topic among gamers. For me, I don't mind 30fps so long as it is 100% locked. It bothers me when games switch framerate. It would likely also bother me going immediately from a 60fps game to a 30fps game, or vice versa. It's the switch that messes with me more than a lower framerate versus a higher one.

They claimed that even the new hardware wouldn't support 60fps, but the other point is very likely as 60fps in an online shooter does give an advantage over 30fps. So people with the newer consoles would automatically have an advantage. The 4K textures mostly just make the game look better.

I would only suspect this for multiplayer shooters. Otherwise it is irrelevant.

They could do what the Coalition did with Gears Ultimate version Edition, where they left the campaign at 30fps, but made the remastered multiplayer 60fps.

The only streaming is video. You either play the game from disc which installs the game to the hard drive or you download the game from the MS store.

You still have to put the disc in to play a game even after the install to hard drive.
