Freesync (VRR) over HDMI works fine at [email protected] on X1X.

Hmm, apologies if I spread misinformation. Now that I think about it, you're right, it was the 60 vs 120 that was the issue I ran into regarding resolution.

The xbox can't do freesync on 1440p @120 hz. It works at 4k60.

Yes, if your display is capable there will be a box to check in display settings.

I went into display settings, wasn't there. Interestingly enough, I unchecked 24Hz and 50Hz, and when I tried to check it again, it told me me TV is telling the Xbox it won't do that lol.

Do you have a freesync capable display? Some older freesync displays would only work through display port if I'm not mistaken.
Compatibility doesnt appear to be guaranteed even with a freesync capable device.

To be precise, X1X supports Freesync 2.
Freesync 2 allows VRR + HDR over HDMI.

I had some success with quicker load times and transitions in game.
Quantum break and Anthem both loaded much faster with the use of an SSD.

Lightbulb LG 2017 OLEDs - All Profiles Re-Calibration (April 2019)

LG 2017 OLEDs - All Profiles Re-Calibration (April 2019)

  • ALL PROFILES UPDATED TO V7 ULTIMATE
  • Firmware 5.80.xx or above is required
  • Completely new re-calibration of all SDR/HDR/DV picture modes with new tools and after 4.000+ hours usage (based on new sonoftumble settings)
  • New Dolby Vision Custom Calibration file to apply via USB patch (updated on April 2019)
  • HDR Game mode back to a new custom profile based on HIGH Dynamic Contrast to match the new improvements
  • Added new in-game HDR suggested settings

Please not that this re-calibration goes in-depth also for all White Balance + CMS values, so do not forget to also update those sections when possible (and do not forget to also update the entire DV profile using the new USB Patch!)

Then give those completely fresh settings a try and let me know what you think...

It's much cheaper to get a bare SSD and put it in your own enclosure.

Hi! I’m a bit confused regarding the audio formats I should choose. I have a 5.1.2 setup with a Yamaha receiver that can handle Atmos and it supports a 7.1 setup.
My question is what audio format should I use for blu Ray, dvd, and for streaming showtime and hbo s. I noticed that for blu Ray that supports dts-hd master audio my receiver shows that when my Xbox sound settings is set for 5.1 uncompressed or bitstream Atmos. Is one better than the other? Thanks!
Do any of you guys think it is better to use a stand alone 4K DVD player? I bought a lg c8 65 inch which was ranked to have the best picture of 2018z. I’m wondering if it’s worth getting the Panasonic ub820. I thought about the 9000 but it sounds as though the difference between the two is the high fidelity outputs that you would use if you don’t use a receiver.

Hey beta testers / those in the "know", status on the Atmos fix??

Fixing the fix

This approach to saving Xbox users from experiencing drop outs when using Dolby Atmos for Home Theater also meant that the consoles couldn’t apply Atmos upmixing to non Atmos sources - since they were essentially having to treat all audio for output as Atmos, even when it wasn’t.

The latest update rolled out to Xbox users on the Alpha Insider ring, though, means that the Dolby Atmos for Home Theater mode can now properly recognize when a game or disc isn’t delivering a true Atmos source, and apply Dolby’s upmixing algorithms to it.

It's true that AV Receivers often carry similar upmixing options, of course. But getting the Xbox to do it makes glitches in the audio playback much less likely.

The new upmixing feature for home theater setups will be set to ‘on’ by default - and actually, in the current build out with Alpha Insiders, it’s set to ‘on’ permanently. However, Xbox Audio Lead Steven Wilssens tells me that by the time the new feature is ready to roll out to the Xbox community at large, it will contain the option to toggle the upmixing on or off (for people who prefer to hear non-Atmos sources in their original format).

I haven't seen that update yet in the Beta ring. Still might be an Alpha ring only at this stage. Not sure how many people in here are on the Alpha ring. I imagine there are a couple.

I’m in beta and I’m not sure if the upmixing is active , I’m running 7.2.4, back ceiling 2 speakers and rear surrounds are inactive during normal 5.1 playback. I don’t know why the front ceiling is active though .

Can someone confirm to me if the Vudu app via Xbox One X supports outputting supported movies in Dolby Vision? I have a new Sony X950G TV with Dolby Vision support and the option was automatically activated via the Xbox when it detected the TV. My HDMI source is set to receive full signals. When I choose to play a DV supported movie in Vudu it doesn't activate DV. Netflix app works like a dream via the Xbox but nothing else does. I can't get Vudu to output DV via the native app either so I am grasping at straws trying to figure out if this a "not supported" problem or its the TV.

Use "uncompressed", bitstream only supports Dolby Digital and DTS.

That is incorrect. They want to use Bitstream for the Blu-ray app as that will pass TrueHD + Atmos as well as DTS-HD MA allowing their AVR to decode those formats. Using uncompressed will result in the Xbox doing the decoding internally and passing it to the AVR via PCM, dropping the Atmos metadata.

Currently only the Netflix app on the Xbox supports Dolby Vision and Dolby Vision is always active, even with SDR content. (Netflix's fault.)

Vudu should playback in HDR10 though.

Alpha Skip-ahead insider here and upmixing has not been added yet. I am looking forward to this. Must have been a delay for some reason. When I use CBS app, which most shows I watch are only in stereo, it only plays in stereo even though I have system settings for Atmos for Home Theater. Will update when that changes.
