This morning when watching content on Netflix from the Xbox, the screen kept turning black every few seconds and then coming back. Does this usually mean a bad cable? It hasn't happened in the past but just started this morning.

Yeah, that is typically the sign of a cable not reliably carrying the signal, I would start there.

What TV do you have? I am getting something similar with my TCL S55S401 and it's the Set after a swapping out the cable.

It's an OLED C9 and it's a fairly new TV (a couple of weeks old).

Xbox -> C9 -> AVR

I used to have it from Xbox to AVR but then connected to TV first because of the new "variable refresh rate" technology. Come to think of it, it started happening when I switched it to HDMI directly to TV...

It seems connection problem. First, unplug the HDMI cables (TV and Xbox off!) and reconnect all. Second you can try it with other HDMI cable. Try to change the display settings in the Xbox, so from 4K >>> 1080p.
Didn't get any update for the Xbox just before it? I had the same issue with (only) Forza Horizon 3, as I remember an update fixed it.

Because it's a C9 you can try to turn on/off eARC. Or try another HDMI-in on the TV, just not the ARC.

D/L Metro series on Gamepass - thought would play thru the trilogy - really impressed with Metro 2033 Redux - about 3/4 done- started this yrs ago on PC- ran choppy and never got in to and only played couple missions on original-
Not sure why - really enjoying this playthru-
smooth as butta and looks gorgeous - sound is amazing - really nice discreet 7.1 mix and DSU makes top tier mix -
Even ordered book to read

But if you play Metro Redux, would you have to play Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light? Wouldn't playing through the first 2 be superfluous if you were going to play the redux?

Hi,
I am wondering if I am watching a movie on my xbox one x via the 4k blu ray player, it supports a 7.1 uncompressed hd soundtrack, and I have a 5.1.2 setup, which audio setting should I set my xbox one x to for the best sound? Should I choose the uncompressed 5.1 or 7.1? Wondering what your opinions are! Thanks!

Hey Kimmy,

If you have a receiver and it has support for HD audio formats such as Dolby True HD, Dolby Atmos, etc then you should set the HDMI Audio to Bitstream and if you have Atmos select the Bitstream format to Dolby Atmos, if you do not have Atmos, Select DTS.

If you use HD capable receiver you have to tick the "Let my receiver decode audio" in the settings menu >> Disc & Blu-Ray/Blu-Ray.

Thanks for the response! Just so you know Xbox One X's audio settings should be changed according to content. I have Atmos but when I play something that does not provide Atmos such as HBO Go the sound does not come out right when the Xbox's audio is set to Atmos. It has to be changed to 5.1 or as you mentioned before, DTS. You can watch the video in the link below starting at 4 minutes.

Glad you found more information!

And yeah, there's that *bug* on Xbox, that once it's on Atmos it's always in Atmos , but if you watch something in normal 5.1 on HBO, Amazon, etc as you stated - it will still output as regular 5.1. It does not HAVE to be changed, though you can change it to DTS in order to get the upmixers back if you have a capable receiver (dolby surround upmixer, dts neural, etc).

So, anyhoot, after you switched did your system properly output atmos on your 5.1.2 setup?

MS hasn't fixed that yet? Also, later on in that video, when he talks about color issues; are those fixed now? I noticed that the video was posted about a year ago.

No, they haven't fixed the sound issues. The color issues are fixed now. Before the xbox would produce the content back in RGB instead of letting the TV do it.

Good to know! Thanks! I'll put it in DTS when I play non Atmos games from now on. For apps I bought a Roku Premiere 4k as it has the most apps. However I'm a little confused when you said 'but if you watch something in normal 5.1 on HBO, Amazon, etc as you stated - it will still output as regular 5.1.' According to the video that I posted you have to change the xbox audio settings to 5.1 to play the 5.1. Otherwise the xbox will try to pass through the atmos and the sound will come out choppy.
I actually was able to produce Atmos properly before. I put it on on Bitstream Atmos for when I play 4k blu rays or games with Atmos, and I switched it to 5.1 uncompressed for games that don't play Atmos. I think I will try DTS to try the upmixers though.

Is there a feedback place on MSs website for issues/fixes? Or is there a thread opened on MS forum for these issues to surface and get corrected?

I learned about it through the video. Google it. Search in the official xbox idea box. I didn't concern myself with switching the format from atmos to something other than that. I only posted my inquiry to see if a video sourced in 7.1 sounds better on a 5.1.2 system in 5.1 or 7.1.

I currently have a Samsung LED DLP, Pioneer Elite SC-07 and Xbox One X. I do all media through the Xbox One X. TrueHD and DTS-MA from blurays comes through on the receiver fine and all channels are playing.

Using test demo MKVs with TrueHD and DTS:MA, I cannot seem to make the receiver say anything but some form of Dolby Digital. Take for instance the most simple DDTrueHD 7.1 channel check. When played and it cycles around the speakers and gets to the back left and right sounds, it just plays them in the Left or right sounds.

Even when I cycle through my AVR sound settings, still outputs DD. For example, even when I am in Stream Direct (which takes out my MCACC calibration, I still get Dolby Digital on those clips. Doesn't matter if it's a DD or DTS clip I am playing, still says DD. I have 2 media servers I am playing these clips from (PLEX and Serviio) and 2 different app players on xbox (PLEX and the MS Media Player). All servers and players exhibit the same Dolby Digital on the AVR.

Is there something I am not doing in either my AVR, Xbox One X or media servers that are not allowing these codecs to pass from an MKV file? Could something be set somewhere that takes whatever comes in and converts down to Dolby Digital?

These are the Xbox audio settings that I have: https://imgur.com/gallery/euK2abC Changing to LPCM didn't make those channels work either.
