That is an interesting article. Short answer: you can't.

The closest PC they could build to get close to the Xbox One X has the following caveats:
  • $152 more expensive
  • Need to fill out rebates for the hardware to keep cost down
  • No UHD (movies) disc support
  • GPU currently out-of-stock
  • No wi-fi at that price point
  • Comparatively large case, and probably louder ambient noise

I'm still amused people actually thought the XB1-X tech would come in at $399.

Probably Christmas 2018 is when it will be $399. I can't wait that long though. Hopefully I'll be able to get an XB1X at launch. But then...

And even better I hope it does what the PS4 Pro did. There were good discounts shortly after launch for it. I picked up my PS4 Pro for 10% off, 10 days after the launch. If I could do the same with the XB1X I would be very pleased.

Let's hope they offer a trade in for the XBOX ONE S for $200 or more, that will make the price a little easy to swallow.

I don't believe the Xbox One X has dual HDMI outputs (one for audio and one for video). So unless I am missing something, Dolby Vision would only be possible if: (1) you run an HDMI straight to your TV and an optical cable to your receiver/soundbar and thus sacrifice HD audio; or (2) you have a Dolby Vision capable receiver/soundbar, which there are virtually none at this point.

This leads me to believe Dolby Vision is not likely. All current UHD players that offer Dolby Vision, or plan to offer Dolby Vision, have dual HDMI outputs. But then again, maybe Microsoft does not care about the whole dual HDMI output thing, so I could be totally off base. Just my two cents.

You wouldn't need to run a optical cable to your receiver if your TV has ARC. The only thing is my LG for example won't do Dolby Atmos over ARC. As for Dolby Vision, all the receivers that have come out the last few years are capable of Dolby Vision passthrough. The only problem is you will need a firmware update. Hopefully companies like Onkyo will provide a DV passthrough firmware update to 2017 models. Dolby has already given the SDK to companies to obtain DV passthrough.

No way am I getting Destiny 2 on Xbox. Since Sony has timed exclusives with some content. I'll get it to play on my PS4 Pro. While I'll get the game Anthem to play on the XB1X.

My thinking of $399 they were going to take a hit but they went the route that this is a premium box and what your getting the price is fair.

For 2017 model receivers, you are probably correct. As for my 2015 marantz avr that was advertised as hdr pass through capable, I will not receive a DV firmware update.

I still think the lack of dual hdmi output could be an impediment to DV. If you check out the oppo 203 forum, seems like all owners have run into issues with DV, unless the video is passed directly to the tv and audio passed along a separate hdmi. But hopefully future fw updates to receivers and soundbars resolve the DV pass through problems.

On a separate note, I am jealous to see your ARC actually works on your LG. My LG C6 OLED arc has never worked from day one.

I have an LG E6 and I had issues when I first hooked everything up. ARC wouldn't work until I unplugged my receiver from the power strip, waited a few minutes, and plugged it back in. After I did that, ARC worked. It was the same thing with my older LG I had before I bought the E6. ARC didn't work until I power cycled my receiver. I'm using an Onkyo TX-NR656.

If I can maintain and not allow myself to get caught up in the 'shiny new' this will be the first console that I take a wait and see approach. That's a big IF...

With first party exclusives claiming pc releases I see no reason to jump in at launch if you already have a capable gaming pc.

That's possibly a Windows UWP issue that should be sorted out by the time those games are available (the pc releases will get there regarding HDR... eventually).

At least on the Nvidia side, don't you need a monitor that supports G-Sync HDR?

No, G-sync is not required for HDR.

This had crossed my mind also. Lots of people had either HDR10 capable TVs or projectors but haven't upgraded their AVRs to both support Atmos and HDR10/DV, so one would require 2 HDMI outputs to get the best of both worlds in given moment (HDR10 or DV on TV, and DTS HD MA over AVR). Not everyone has enough money to upgrade all the equipment as soon as it hits the market. And not a lot of people had went Atmos path yet but they are planning to, sooner or later...

I am looking at Forza 7 in the Windows Store at the moment and they are listing HDR and 4K, so hopefully it will be HDR on both platforms!

Hopefully they will patch GoW 4 and Forza Horizon 3 to enable HDR because while the HDR looks great, I would rather play 4K60 maxed out in SDR on my HTPC than on my One S.

Quick query.

I have an Xbox One S that I use with my Sony 79X900B.

The 4K TV Details page comes up with this for the "Playing Games" section:

"Your TV Setup does not support 4K 10-bit at 60Hz. However you can still upscale to 4K by choosing 4K UHD TV resolution setting"

Now I know my TV is non-HDR, but can input:
  • 4K at 50 or 60Hz in 4:2:0 8bit
  • 4K at 24Hz or 30Hz in 4:4:4 12bit

So will the Xbox One X play games at 4K 60Hz 4:2:0 8bit?

Gears of War 4 and Crackdown 3 will be the first two games to support Dolby Atmos on the Xbox One platform, a Dolby representative has confirmed.

Dolby Atmos is the newest piece of sound technology from the company, and features an object-based audio system that makes it sound as though things are above you, as well as to the sides and behind you as with a traditional surround sound setup.

The technology, which is available on both Xbox One S and Xbox One X consoles, support both speakers and headphones, although if you want to use the latter then you'll have to pay a one-off $14.99 fee to enable it in your console.

The problem with HDR is that it is completely broken on PC from what I have seen. ME Andromeda does not work unless you have an older NVIDIA driver. Even with that, it is not really working either. Haven't tried Shadow Warrior lately, but that was touchy as well. I'll stick with plug and play over messing with PC settings any day.

drivers is the biggest thing I have against PC gaming. the obvious and easiest answer should be to update to the latest driver. but the latest driver may cause some games to perform poorly

I wonder if it will be time to stock up on discounted gift cards. If you shop around you can sometimes find gift cards to best buy or even gamestop at discounted rates (ebay and Discount gift card sites). So even if you can find 5 gift cards with a $100 value for $90, that's $450 for the system (pre-tax) but, even deeper, you might be able to find even cheaper. I have seen $100 gift cards for $80 in some places. If you don't mind doing a little looking time to time (check once or twice a week and be ready to buy), you can possibly get it at a good price.

For example...(while they last of course)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/GameStop-Pre...AAAOSwNuxXawKI

$25 gift card for $21.25 for Gamestop... Buy enough and that is 15% off, so @ $500, the Xbox One X would cost you $425. (pre-tax of course)

Or even $100 for $90..
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Get-a-100-Ga...QAAOSw6ShZOtJp

A system for $450...

Even with Gamestop (as I have done this in the past), you can pre-order and keep paying on it. So when I find my first gift card, I will pre-order it, put a deposit down, as I get more, I stop by the store to put it on it. So when it's released, you can just pick it up on release day.

I wonder if black-Friday is going to bring up any XB1X deals, even if $20-50 off.

I'll go the game stop route if they have a good trade in deal. Like I did with the XB1S. I like to stick with best buy if I can, since I have a 45 day return period with them.

I guess it also depends on how it sells. If it sells like hotcakes it will be in short supply. But with the PS4 Pro last year there were no shortages. So I was glad I waited ten days after launch before purchasing. Since there were 10% and 20% off deal already.

But I fear if I wait with the XB1X, that it will be in short supply and I wouldn't be able to get one until later.

That's probably the route I'll end up going to trade in my XB1 or XB1s depending on the deal.

LOL... Game stop for trade in ? More like 0.25 on the dollar is what they will give you. If your trying to MAX your dollar, dump on ebay or another site. Sure ebay hits you for 10% but, when you come down to it, a 500gb Xbox one S is new now for $199.99, If this is what your trading in, I bet they don't give more than $50 maybe even $75 but, not much more.

Ebay you'll get $150+ all day as long as you market it correctly (good pictures detailed images, etc)

I actually prefer Amazon because

A) I've found people who use Amazon are willing to pay a lot more just because it's Amazon (when I sold my LG OLED, the best offer I got on Ebay was $300 lower than what it eventually sold for on Amazon)

B) Less fees and very simple (takes less than a minute to list)

But either way, completely agree. Trading in at GameStop is the last resort I'd ever consider. Especially for a console as new as the Xbox One/One S.

if you guys actually want to sell something, why not Craigslist? You get paid in cash in a public place, you never see them ever again, you don't have to pay any fees.

You would think the Xbox one x would come with a larger hard drive than 1 TB.
