I was able to play for a couple hours last night. I like how they have to demo setup. It gets to into the game and going right away. On the negative side there is no beginning missions to figure out controller and how to navigate setting up missing and launching them.

Gameplay is very smooth with ranger javelin. It does feel like Destiny like in regards to how you play, but with the inclusion of flying it shakes things up a bit. You can not swap weapon upgrades during missions. Anything you collect must wait until your return to base and see what you unlocked then equip. I've does several times sitting fire fights with various creatures in free mode. You can solo but I think it's going to be tough until you get the hang of the game and figured out how to equip your javelin right.

Graphics are gorgeous. Seeing lots of Pop in right now, but hopefully that gets cleaned up. Not seeing any slow down during fire fights, but holy crap the visuals are impressive with the explosions and flames. It's almost to much!

If I had not pre-ordered and was going to base my purchase on this demo, I would not even be purchasing anthem. The demo is nothing but a mess. I played the demo on both my XB1X and PS4 pro with similar crappy results.

Hopefully they get things figured out by launch next month. Because based on what I played in the demo, they don't seem to have a clue what they are doing with an online multiplayer game.

Did you notice a lot of flickering with the color, almost like it was flipping between SDR and HDR?

In terms of gameplay, very chaotic but enjoyable once you get a teammate or two.

I guess not so much HDR but did you notice the shadows flickering? Otherwise it could be my cable which seems to be having an issue with the One X and HDR.

I didn't see an issue with colors or HDR and sdr. But I saw major issues related to online stuff. Like it would take me back to the spot I was at a few seconds ago. It was extremely annoying. Which is why I tried it on both systems.

A demo a month before launch should not be having issues like this. If it were a beta many months ago, then I would have no issue with it.

Compared to the Fallout 76 “beta” (more like early access), this plays far better. It’s not perfect, but I wouldn’t call it mess. I had no issues with multiplayer outside of getting bumped back to the dashboard every so often. Where the game could use a lot of work is the performance; it’s all over the place in terms of frame rate. I ended up disabling motion blur (and chromatic aberration, it should be off by default haha) and that seems to help slightly while also making the game sharper.

I was in the fence about it, but the 3 hours I’ve played so far I’ve enjoyed. I’ll probably pick it up once I’m done with Crackdown 3.

Thanks to Arutha_conDoin for giving me a friend code. You’re awesome!

It's the shadows. They do have a tendency to glitch. Seen this on a few games and not just this one. Come to think of it I think they were all games issuing the Frostbite engine.

But you just said it, beta. This was not a beta. It was a demonstration release. I expect a bunch of issues with a beta. Not with a demo released one month before the final game is released.

You’re absolutely right, and those issues reared their ugly head the more I played the demo. Issues that can be game breaking if not addressed before launch. Hopefully they can be addressed before launch.

Still, it’s not the train wreck that Fallout 76 was/is, which was essentially a demo as well, not a beta. That’s what I was trying to say in my previous post.

I'm looking forward to the main game. Heading into the I figured there was going to be issues name a game like this that didn't have some tripe if issues. Demo/beta whatever you want to call it as long as their is multiplayer aspect to it you can't predict real world issues until you start doing in the real test subjects (us users) and get an idea how all the equipment and networks are going to work.

How the game played when I played I enjoyed it. I liked how the javalines felt when I used them. The main missions they I did were entertaining. It will be interesting to see how the grind is on everything.

Thats why you use a beta to see how real world issues affect things. Not a demo.

I've already pre-ordered it since it was only $50 after the $10 in reward zone dollars from Best buy. It's just that of I had based my purchase on the demo, I would have sat back and waited to purchase it until sometime after it was released. Like I've do e with RDR2. Which I won't consider purchasing until they get the HDR fixed, or I can get a big discount on it.

Demo or beta at this stage is the same thing. When was the last time we saw a true demo of a game.

Demo usually release at the same time if a game to see if you want to get it not a month in advance

I realize that the terms "demo/beta/alpha" etc are misused these days by developers but Demo does have a certain implication that what you are seeing is the final product being demonstrated in hopes of making a sale. Not some sorta proof of concept or testing release.

I realize its all semantics.

Based on that and what I experienced trying the demo(on PC) I will not be purchasing. Buggy and boring.

I'm debating on cancelling my preorder for the Xb1X. Especially after looking at the Digital Foundry review of the demo beta where they show it runs better on the PS4Pro(and looks the same as it does on the Xb1X). So if I cancel I would order it again for the PS4pro. Not sure what I will do though. I did specifically order it for Xbox because I figured the Xb1X would have the best presentation. But since this was just the demo beta, there is no way to know for sure until the final game comes out. And I only pre-ordered it because of the $10 you get in reward zone dollars from BestBuy.

My preorder stays. My demo weekend was good and played all the javelin suits. Loved the Storm class the best followed by the Colossus. I was able to play with @Big Brad for a mission and that was a lot of fun.

I'll be in my X. No reason for it to run any less than the pro, so my guess is it will get tweaked better. Besides I still can't PlayStation controller. It just never felt natural in my hands.

Digital Foundry’s latest video explains why it runs WORSE on the One X. Basically, the Pro is 1800p and the One X is 2160p. Even still, they need to work out the performance because it’s horrible on both consoles. They also discuss how the frame rate correlates into the motion blur, which is why I disabled it completely as I found it very disorienting.

I still want to pick it up, but I may wait to see if they address performance issues.

Based on the Demo Beta, I like Destiny 2 better. But Anthem seems to have some good potential.

I'm still debating whether to cancel my pre-order from Best Buy.

I would expect the final version to definitely be better though. At least I hope that's the case since they said the demo was a fork from the game from a couple of months ago. So any improvements since then would not show up.

One thing they really need to fix is the loading. Initially I had played it from the internal platter drive. And it was excruciatingly slow with loads. But even once I put it on my SSD, attached to my XB1X. It was still the slowest loads I've ever seen from a game on an SSD, with both my XB1X and PS4 pro.

Damn good question. I can't answer until I play the game and see how the whole thing is. Way to eary to tell. Some people are not happy with the lack of PvP mode (I'm more than fine without).

I'm curious about the storyline and what the endgame content will be like.

The javelins felt way more different than the character classes did in Destiny in my opinion..
