I was on the fence about this one and rented it at Redbox. Glad I did. I’ve played 6 hours or so and I’ll likely return it tonight. Just not feeling it. The combat is so clunky it’s crazy. I mean, why can’t they get the dead zone right on these games? Rise suffered the same at launch and was eventually fixed. Aiming is a test of patience, even after maxing out accuracy and recoil.
Graphically, it can be impressive at times on the One X, though there is a massive amount of screen tearing near the top of the frame almost constantly. Unacceptable at this point, and I’ve read the PS4 Pro uses vsync, so no tearing there. I’m using the high resolution option with HDR on a Vizio P65. Atmos sound is the most impressive part, outside of the utterly cheesy voice acting by everyone. Seriously, their voice director should be fired. I know this is Eidos Montreal, but I didn’t expect Deus Ex levels of bad voice acting. The sound design is top notch though.
Overall, I’m done with the series, which is unfortunate as I enjoyed the first entry in the reboot series and Rise wasn’t as bad as this. In today’s climate of AAA titles, there really isn’t a reason for a game like this to not be top notch in every aspect.
