I was on the fence about this one and rented it at Redbox. Glad I did. I’ve played 6 hours or so and I’ll likely return it tonight. Just not feeling it. The combat is so clunky it’s crazy. I mean, why can’t they get the dead zone right on these games? Rise suffered the same at launch and was eventually fixed. Aiming is a test of patience, even after maxing out accuracy and recoil.

Graphically, it can be impressive at times on the One X, though there is a massive amount of screen tearing near the top of the frame almost constantly. Unacceptable at this point, and I’ve read the PS4 Pro uses vsync, so no tearing there. I’m using the high resolution option with HDR on a Vizio P65. Atmos sound is the most impressive part, outside of the utterly cheesy voice acting by everyone. Seriously, their voice director should be fired. I know this is Eidos Montreal, but I didn’t expect Deus Ex levels of bad voice acting. The sound design is top notch though.

Overall, I’m done with the series, which is unfortunate as I enjoyed the first entry in the reboot series and Rise wasn’t as bad as this. In today’s climate of AAA titles, there really isn’t a reason for a game like this to not be top notch in every aspect.

@Big Brad interesting I never noticed the screen tearing when I was playing. I'm sure there was some there, but it never distracted me from the game. The gun combat I didn't like as well either. For me though I used the Bow and stealth take downs almost exclusively and that made the combat much better. One thing I kept wanting is the Melee fighter ability, but have not seen it yet, but you should probably rely on Stealth more than anything. I am working on my second time through the game on New Game + so hopefully I can hit that 100% on completion!

I'm about 40% in and, like @Big Brad , feel let down by this game.

I don't think it's a complete waste -- there's some fun to be had. And a couple of the new mechanics are nice. But overall, it feels like a lukewarm retread: a step down from the previous games in this reboot.

The story is meh, and many of the side quests are just plain boring. Combat is not precise/intuitive. And yes, I also noticed screen tearing, which looks like adaptive vsync - something we should not be seeing on the xbox console.

Overall, I loved the previous Tomb Raider games, but this one has me hesitant for the future of the series.

I feel the same way about this game. I'm only like 15% in so far. Combat is just flat out terrible. The first shootout in the game, I was literally aiming for head shots with the auto rifle and couldn't kill anything. I ended up being successful with the bow. The story does nothing for me so far. The side quests are rather boring for me as well. I noticed the screen tearing. It's pretty annoying.

I've always been a big fan of the Tomb Raider series, but I may be done after this. The future of the series will have to go in another direction since Shadow is the final game in the trilogy. I'm on the fence if I will keep playing or just start Assassin's Creed Odyssey. I picked that up over the weekend. I need to keep myself busy until RDR2 comes out.

I switched over to AC Odyssey, and been having a much better time with it.

Red Dead 2 looks like it might be something special - really looking forward to that one.

I'm waiting for a sale on AC Odyssey. Looks good, but too many games right now! I've already committed to Call of Cthulhu on day one since I'm a horror fan.

Hell I'm even passing on Black ops 4 and battlefield V since I have Red Dead Redemption 2 pre ordered!

I think I'll give AC Odyseey a try tonight. I'm really looking forward to Red Dead 2. The trailer Rockstar released last week looks incredible. I think it will be one of those special games. Rockstar never disappoints me.

I always have too many games to play..lol I preordered BFV, but I probably should cancel it. RDR2 is going to keep me busy for a while.

Anyone pick up the DLC for the game? I just did the exploration of it and liked the The Forge. Only way I knew how to access was through the menu option, but was wondering it there was a story mode built into it as well?

NVM, Found a video that shows how to play the Story mode.. Kind of strange it doesn't explain it very well.

Hard to describe how much fun this game is on my new JVC N7 (4k HDR) and 7.4.4 Atmos - whole game is showcase for reference video and audio 😁😁😁

Anyone know where to find the Lock Pick and the Rope Ascender? It's not at any of the 3 merchants. I went through the game and never found either one. I have a 87.4% completion.

I couldn't remember what side quest it was. I had the items. but Google worked pretty well for finding the quest!

I have been doing all the DLC on my first play through. once I finish all of that I'll do a new game+ and see how that goes.

I had started a new game+plus before the dlc and sadly when playing on the first of the play through is not updating the new game plus too

Got back into the game. I found all of the Outcasts .The last one appeared out of nowhere and I was able to buy the Ascender and Lockpick. Not sure if it was worth it after I used them.

Wow, that looks amazing. I look forward to playing this finally now that I have it as part of Game Pass Ultimate. I shouldn't have spent this long waiting while I tried to finish RDR2.
