Official Project xCloud Thread

I didn't see one started, so kicking this off. Saw this link with Forza 4 being shown:

I think that starting this thread was a good idea, but if what is currently known as "Project xCloud" gets an official name that is not "Project xCloud" if and when it officially launches, you might want to consider changing the thread's name to "Official ___ Thread" (replacing the ___ with the service's official name).

Yea, agreed. There is a high likely hood that it becomes something else. Though I do like the xCloud name!

With that said I still want to see an Ori game shown on xCloud!

Sorax 03-13-2019 11:05 AM

If Ori feels good to play via xCloud than the tech is legit. Maintaining acceptable latency over all the various connection types is the challenge. For me, the use case that immediately comes to mind is hotel internet. I'm always going to use my console when I'm home but being able to continue when I'm on the road would be awesome.

Thanks for posting this, I was going to try and add this later tonight!

I like what they are doing in allowing multiple inputs and not forcing any particular controller style!

I'd expect some big reveals on xCloud at E3. The memo Spencer sent after Google's Stadia reveal was a good read.

Sounding good so far! I figured there would have to be some lag, but can't wait until we can give it a try. If Beta testing starts this fall I hope to get into one!

Hands on demo impressions are going up

I wonder if this could be an opportunity for MS to make a 'dedicated' handheld device that integrates better than a regular phone. They have been working on Andromeda (surface phone with foldable screen), but we have not heard much over the last year.

Make a 'hard' connection (wire or some sort of dock, to reduce bluetooth lag) with the Xbox controller, and then have a 5G ready android phone with a foldable screen and I think they might really be able to sell xCloud.

I'm not sold on Google yet. I did try Odyssey when they had that beta and it was decent, but the graphics were not up to par

I didn't play the demo.

But for me graphics differences between modern video games (let's put that Avengers trash fire to the side for one moment) are really, really hard to tell apart anymore. You used to be able to tell who was really good at making video game engines versus who wasn't - that's not really the case anymore...

so all that is to say that game wasn't really built to take advantage of what google can offer in terms of remote rendering. I'm really excited to see if they can render games that are actually next level in terms of graphics that are not burning up a box in my house.

That being said, I have not pre-ordered the founders pack - I'm in the same boat - wait and see. Also I am pretty heavily invested with MS - I have XBL Ultimate into 2022 as a result of that filler deal they just had.

Arutha_conDoin 06-14-2019 12:18 PM

Google was less than 1080p most of the time and for me on a widescreen monitor that doesn't cut it. That's why I'm more in line with xCloud and being able to use the phone or tablet. I'm hoping to get into the beta for that this fall. Hell I'll even order a blue tooth controller if I need to.

I want to get the new wireless elite but may wait for that for Christmas ;)

im curious how well that will work - I have gigabit Ethernet all over my house and streaming games from console to PC is not a great experience.

I should add that I am exceptionally lenient when it comes to lag

Arutha_conDoin 06-15-2019 11:43 AM

Agreed. I'm Gigabit speed as well. Steam streaming didn't do as well as I liked and that was hard wired. Streaming from Xbox to PC the the Xbox app on PC has not been to bad. Better than I thought. Lag was decent as well.

We will find out soon enough. Hopefully if we get beta access we can get to send a few invites out as well.

You just have to hope they have figured something out with the compression or something- what’s there today is not great.

If I'm not mistaken I believe MS developers are using Azure to develope games together and share ideas with each other.
