I know I have loved looking over the main PS3 pic thread. But as much as I like looking at beutiful and unique setups, I also look for ideas on how to improve my own. Living in an apartment (and on the specific budget), we face some different restrictions.
I thought some of us out there who live in an apartment may benefit by having pics of apartment specific setups posted. I am gonna insert my own (in progress) setup...and hopefully we can get something goin here. ![]() Got a speaker wire and the wire for the backlight that need to be hidden... ![]() That's a 1978 Sansui cabinet loudspeaker: very old but its got two 8" woofers [up and down firing] and a tweeter still sound pretty good, though not sonicly matched with the CC. ![]() Velodyne sub ![]() ![]() ![]() |

That area was my favorite in the entire game. I must have went up to that cave behind the waterfall and looked at the vista at least fifty times, just to show my friends and family the scenery! ![]() The texturing on the submarine was amazing too! I think I want to go through Uncharted one more time now... ![]() |
Is it better to have the back surround speakers directly behind you or up a little farther and spread out?
|
I'll post some pictures of mine after I upload them.

I live in a condo and my TV is on a wall adjacent to my neighbor. Do you guy worry about your neighbors complaining about noise from your HTS?
I'd post a pick of my set up but I'd have to dust it first. ![]() |

Well...probably up higher if you have space between the wall and your listening position...but I dont ![]() Soooo, I have a function on the receiver that allows me to adjust height placement on my surround back speakers, so I just set that to low. I do have to turn the db level down a bit so they dont overpower my other speakers. |

Yeah...I guess it is always a concern. I do my best to only turn it up during the afternoon to evenings. Still, I catch myself thumping a bit during those late night sessions. Its difficult not to play what you have. But I wouldnt worry about just a TV, if that's what you mean. |

Well actually, I have 7.1 Ch going with 4 satellite speakers as my surrounds and surround backs. I am in the process of completely upgrading all my speakers (buying Ascends this weekend). I know I should invest more in my speakers than anything else, that's why I have taken my time on the research..etc.
|
I'm planning that aswell. I also need to upgrade my receiver, one that allows lossless and 7.1. Doing a lot of research also...And saving up too.

Bdwright, nice setup ![]() Although I don't live in an apartment, I have come to the conclusion that I have the same "restrictions" that you speak of. You see, although I have a dedicated basement in a house that "I" had built and make payments on every month, I have quickly realized that I am nothing more then a "tenant" in this setup and the land lord can be a bit demanding (aka, the wife) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Seems like a waste in my opinion, and money on your setup would be better spent elsewhere. I do like your setup, its neat, contemporary and fits the bill. I have a similiar one in my home, but my HTS is a Sony HTiB.. Its a DD/DTS 5.1 system I bought in 2001. I cant even crank it past 3 on a volume scale of 1-10 without the neighbors banging on the wall. As you can imagine the LAST thing on my list getting a newer/better 7.1 HDMI setup. Well atleast as long as I'm still in an apartment. |

I turn my system up, and it's crazy loud. I'm certified by HAA and I did a whole Audio calibration on my setup. I'm also using a sunfire tru-sub, which is an animal in itself. What I don't do, is turn it up loud past 10 on a weeknight, and I don't turn it up past 1am on the weekend. Other than that, it's fair game IMO. As long as I am not "disturbing the peace" after those set time, nobody can say a word to me. I pay for my space, and I expect to use it. So should everyone else. |
Mmmphh, should I or shouldn't I post pics here? Soooooo tempted...

ohhh please dad1153...spare us!
|
thanks Daekwan and kekborg....'preciate it. I guess my reasoning is that, even at lower volumes, you can still tell the difference in quality sound reproduction and...not so quality sound reproduction. While I like my front L and R speakers (as old as they are), they do not match up well with the 5 ch Yamaha setup. Additionally, I just want all 7 ch to match
![]() Call me OCD, or a HT perfectionist, but even if I dont get to rattle the neighbors, I want to have quality equipment. Speakers have always been my focal point, and I have put it off so long so that I can make a choice on something that will last me, even when I make it into my first home. |
here is mine in my small condo!
![]() ![]() Sorry for pic quality.. still using good old SD350... And with flash doesn't look natural! |

I have thought about getting a bigger tv stand but the center speaker takes up a lot of space and could still leave me with having stuff spread out. I am considering a Salamander Design rack but I don't like their price. |
