They said "next week" last week - so sometime this week, unless they run into bugs. And I'd certainly rather they iron out the bugs before issuing the patch, rather than a series of patches to fix it.
In terms of the disc player, that really shouldn't have been a surprise. Outside of the kinds of people who frequent the AVS forums, most people never use discs at all* - if they can't stream it, they'll watch something else. Cheap UHD disc players will be out soon/eventually, and if they never become cheap, then Sony was doubly right for not including it in the PS4 Pro and having to charge extra to do so.
The vast majority of potential PS4 users a) don't care about UHD functionality, and b) would be less likely to buy a PS4 Pro if the price was higher because Sony put a UHD drive in.
Personally, I wish there was a UHD drive in the PS4 Pro - it would make me more likely to buy one. But Sony made the right call, business-wise.
*with the possible exception of child pacification via something like Thomas The Tank Engine for 500+ viewings, and at that point a DVD is fine.
