At the very least it will turn itself off after whatever you have the setting on the PS4 set to. It's a waste of energy, but better than nothing.

Does anyone have any experience with HDMI CEC and projectors? I tried turning CEC on for my Sony 55ES, my Denon X2100W, the PS4, and my blu ray player. Then I tried to use that in conjunction with my Harmony Smart Control and send commands (using Harmony's app to test) from the Denon and projector but it doesn't seem to do anything on the PS4 side.

With the announcement of HBO Go coming to PS4 today now I really want my harmony to work with the PS4.

I do not know why Sony will not allow this to happen. I mean they can still sell there own blue-tooth remote just like they did with the PS3.

A lack of bluetooth controller/harmony support and DNLA are still my biggest grips since day one of buying my PS4. I am really annoyed that in all this time it still hasn't been addressed by Sony. Its like the system regressed in numerous aspects from the PS3 to the PS4.

And try to play videos from USB... haha

Anyhow this FLIRC setup seems to have potential. But unless I can power it of/off, I'll probably hold off. Because that means either way I have to go pick up my controller from the media center, instead of just using the remote, so its already going to have to be on hand so I may as well just use the controller until I can ditch it completely during media use.

What I wouldn't give for a IR4PS3-like complete solution. Mine still works flawlessly to this day.

They said up above that FLIRC will power it off, I don't recall but I think someone said powering on through HDMI-CEC was working.

With FLIRC you can turn off the console by holding down whatever button you mapped the "home" (or whatever it's called) key for a couple of seconds and then selecting "Rest" or "OFF". Don't think there is a way to use that button to turn it on, but I haven't tried yet. I would be surprised if you could turn it on via HDMI CEC because it is usually the media devices that turn on the tv/receiver and not the other way around. The tv/receiver should be turning off the media devices via CEC. Of course CEC is fully of promise but generally brings mostly heartache.

FYI. Netflix seems to work fine. Hulu doesn't. I haven't tried a blu ray yet.

With Playstation Vue being released, this could prompt Sony to actually do something about the remote situation.

I note from here: http://www.reseller.co.nz/article/57...le-heads-ipad/

"The DualShock 4 wireless controller that ships by default with the PS4 acts as a remote control. The controller provides good directional navigation of the UI, but the buttons aren't labeled, which could be confusing for users new to PS Vue. Sony is working to bring some conventional TV remote controls to work with PS Vue, Myers said."

Whatever changes they make may open up some options for us.

the only thing that I can get my harmony 900 and flirc to control is

opening up the bluray popup using F3

nothing else will work even using a plugged in keyboard.

I am on the bluray player app (if you call it that) I have no idea how you guys got it to play and pause and fast forward

any help would be great

I really appreciate this thread and the Lanzer Harmony guide. It allowed me to create a somewhat similar guide for URC systems and Flirc of the PS4. I placed it in the URC Control room. You'll need to be a URC dealer to access it:
http://www.urccontrolroom.com/forums...5072#post95072

One interesting thing I've found. Not every movie can be controlled by Flirc. "The Untouchables" on Blu-Ray worked fine. However, "John Wick" on BD only allowed the pop-up BD menu, no other in-movie control at all. Weird. (and yes, all my Dualshock controllers were turned off)

Thanks for posting this. I was going to try the FLIRC route, but now I won't bother. Not worth the trouble, IMO, if it is only going to work with some, but not all, titles.

Xbox has definitely become the system of choice at home in a big part due to no Harmony control of the PS4. It infuriates me that Sony doesn't seem to care about ease of use.

+1

Not going to switch to XBO (or augment) just over this issue - way too much invested in the PS4 platform. But it ticks me off that the PS3 is still a better media device in many ways.

About the only use my PS4 serves is as a dedicated games machine. It's a shame because if it had Harmony support it would be a pretty good machine for blu-ray, netflix, etc.

The XBO is not much better, although it works with my Harmony remote, it drops the ball with audio - blu-ray and streaming video is passed along at the pre-set number of channels (e.g. 5.1). In other words, if you playback a 2.0 source on a 7.1 system you will have 5.1 dead channels with no opportunity to apply post-processing such as DPLIIx.

That leaves both these new machines as far less than ideal for audio/video playback.

Because they want you to buy a new remote and don't care that we spent way too much for that adapter to begin with.

I saw no mention in the article about the harmony 650 so what do you mean about being sol? I'm asking because I have a harmony 650.

SO my Harmony One remotes are useless as well for the PS4. Could I buy just the Smart Hub and at least be able to control the PS4 that way?

Here is there compatibility chart.

https://support.myharmony.com/en/har...d-combinations

I don't think you can buy the ultimate hub as a standalone but can get the smart control and seems as though you should be able to use your one with that.

You can get the smart hub alone or with a keyboard, but the 650 won't operate with it.

I agree, they should support the PS3 adapter.

Is there a list of remotes that work with the PS4? Mine is IR so I know it's out. I'm willing to buy a new one but I need to know which will work.

It's compatible with their Hub and Home based products. Can't speak to any other companies products although there are threads in here that speak to other (although I believe pretty limited) options.

Also disappointed that I can not use the one. I do not really like the new remote based on the lack of physical buttons.

Touch screens are cool and all, but for my remote I like being able to use it mainly by feel.

If the One is the Ultimate One which I think it is then you can use it in conjunction with the Ultimate Hub which you can get with the Smart Control bundle. - will cost you $129 though (at lest in Canada so probably a bit cheaper in the U.S.).

I really like my smart control from a feel perspective with 2 exception.
1) Combined FF/Skip and Rew/Previous buttons. Kind of annoying but usable.
2) No backlighting. Hard to see in the theater at times

A third complaint would be since there is no screen on the remote there is no help button like in previous Harmony controller. The good part of that is there is no screen so it isn't as big, bulky, and overly bright. Though it isn't bright at all as I said in #2 .

I wish I could find an IR programmable remote the same size and buttons (except complaint #1 ) as the smart remote so I could use it for HDMI-CEC for other setups in my house. I'm also thinking about trying to figure out a way to simplify the logitech setup to use CEC in my theater and talk to the equipment in the other room. Logitech is unweilding and occasionally makes mistakes.

So I just got my hub set up with my PS4 and Harmony Touch; Is anyone else having trouble using the remote with HBO GO? Works fine on the PS4 menu, Netflix, and YouTube, but it is unresponsive with HBO GO.

It's likely the BT profile as to why the old PS3 adapters do not properly work with it. The PS4 controllers worked with the PS3 but over a cable only IIRC, it's probably just a case of bluetooth evolution.

Everyone at Sony that approved this machine being released without IR or reasonable remote alternative should have their bonuses revoked. It was not a cost saving measure, in fact it only cost them as the negative publicity and constant griping has a much larger price tag that what a simple IR receiver in every unit would have been. It's easier to deal with if you, like me, don't consider it as an option for watching Netflix or consuming media at all. Even then I'd like to have some automation so that I can pull out my smartphone and activate a PS4 scene in my theater from upstairs before I even head down. Finally having the quick-resume feature has helped that immensly.

Has anyone figured out how to power the unit on? It's great that I can use my remote now but without the power on function it's kind of useless.
