Can anyone describe the save system for this game? Save anywhere, checkpoint, or other? Thanks!

Saw the IGN review last night. Scored 9.3, FWIW. It definitely has my attention as a potential BF pick up.

It's not really LOTR and I'm glad to not see Bildo, Gimli, or Gandolf (etc) make a token (Tolkien?) appearance. But a middle earth themed assassins creed that replaces the animus with elvish magic? Sounds fun

Warning: I make a lot of mistakes but occasionally I learn from them!

Maybe not those specific LOTR characters, but the IGN review I saw definitely showed a few "tolkien" appearances.

Any input on actual gameplay. Mine is sitting on the table unopened and need to make a decision whether or not to keep it. I am largely leaning towards opening it but wouldn`t mind a few impressions first. Thanks in advance.

I'm a firm believer in a enjoying what you can now, instead of later. So if you own it already, and are not impoverished, then play the game! Looks like Gamestop will buy this game from you for 40 bucks over the next 30 days. So based on the reviews thus far, it should be worth what you're in it for... around 19.95 plus tax for a 30 day rental.

Warning: I make a lot of mistakes but occasionally I learn from them!

I am really looking forward playin this game. I am a big fan of Tolkien AND of Assasins creed. Problem is I don't have the money for a PS4 so I'll have to stick with the PS3 version How can someone who already has the game wait to open it up
But seriously ratings are pretty good and they promised 30 hours of playing time so It is not a long shot that the game might be worth the money.

I've only put an hour or so into it so far, but it seems you can spend quite a bit of time just roaming around doing sidequests, hunting for treasure, or killing orcs. 20-30 hrs I'd say is a good estimate just for the main missions.

Like I said I only have a short time in, and I already have a butthole Orc who's killed me twice and likes to brag about it. He was just some dumb archer who picked me off when I got ratpacked and now he's been promoted three times (twice for killing me, once for challenging one of his rivals) - but don't worry, he'll get what's coming to him. The Nemesis system really is unique - I now have a vendetta for this individual but have to spend some time doing missions so I'm strong enough to beat him.
DaverJ, Bluescale and d_m1010 like this.

I have never failed. I just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

I got a bad ass nemesis already. Think he's power level 18 or 19 as he's killed me 7 or 8 times at least. I try to chisel away at his health but I keep getting dog piled by groups of uruks and other captains join the fray. It doesnt help when his heavy attack makes me bleed out all health.

Still a fun game. Wonder how much depth there is but if you liked combat in arkham batman then this should be easy for you.

Pro tip: avoid the strongholds until you are much stronger.

Warning: I make a lot of mistakes but occasionally I learn from them!

Still trying to get info on the save system. From some googling it looks to be a checkpoint system, but I read some complaints about the stealth missions being without checkpoints? How bad are they? (Coming from someone who hates Assassins Creed style tailing missions)

Unfortunately the PS3 version (I'm in the same boat) doesn't release until Nov. 14. And be warned the last-gen versions are being nerfed a bit. This from Wikipedia:
Quote:
In February 2014, Monolith Productions announced that the Nemesis System, being a large system, will be reduced in the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 releases, also stating that they were "focusing on the next-gen platforms," meaning the PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One systems. Furthermore, they stated that they're "going to do whatever we can to get as much as possible on current-gen." Monolith Productions also stated that "some of the stuff," meaning the "core mechanics," which are combat, stealth, ranger abilities and movements, the basic control and gameplay, will be the same on both generations of gaming consoles.

Where do you see the Digital version for sale? I can't see it on Amazon or Best Buy. It sounds like it may just be bundling in the season pass.

I have no idea what makes the Legion edition "Legion" but the deluxe just includes the 24.99 season pass.

Controls felt a mess the first couple hours, but now they are clicking. The nemesis system is cool, but it is weird that I can basically just run around and slaughter most captains w/o learning there weakness. May change after I put in a few more hours.

Visuals aren't that impressive sadly, but I guess that is the result of a cross-gen title.

I'm tempted to pick this up. What game does this most closely resemble? Is it similar to something like Kingdom's of Amular in combat?

It's a good hybrid of at least a couple of games. The theme is definitely the Tolkien universe, somewhere after the Hobbit storyline, but before the Lord of the Rings one. The combat looks like it came from Batman Arkham (chainable attacks with occasional specials and many blocking moves). You upgrade your skills and unlock more abilities and moves. You can also add runes to your weapons for added bonuses. You can spend in game currency for upgraded health and focus (mana) pools. The game also borrowers heavily from Assassin's creed with wall climbing parkour, towers that unlock memories/areas, and collectibles. However no silly feathers or animus fragments that I can see.

The nemesis system is unique as far as I know. If an uruk kills you, they get promoted to warchief or captain (not sure if there is a difference). Each Uruk has specific strengths and weaknesses, which you can easily exploit. The nemesis system works without you too, as uruks battle each other for dominance. Each victor only gets stronger, and there is always new up and comers to replace the fallen.

What's great is that there is a wide variety of uruks. They do seem to have personality and are not cookie cutter. The problem is their cinematics gets a little routine.
Spoiler!

Thanks for the feedback. That enemy promotion system does sound very cool. Son of bit... you might be forcing me to cough out some money for this game

Watched a guy streaming it last night with no idea where he was in the game, turns out he was at the end... chalk this one up to another horrible ending that simply sets up a sequel.
Based upon what I have seen (not played) I am wondering if that IGN review was paid for (?).
I still want to try it but based upon watching it I can say I have less interest now (being a LOTR fan will make it tough to stay away).

How is the framerate on PS4 - locked 30fps or 60? Does it drop, if so how often?

It's claimed to be 1080p/60 and it looks pretty smooth based upon the content that I watched (have watched a few streams now and no frame-rate complaints).

I order this yesterday from Amazon. I'll have it sometime today. I'll try and post some impressions this evening. Haven't really seen any videos of it other than that awful, narrated trailer that was posted a while back. Honestly, once I heard the combat play style was very "Batman Arkham-like," I was kind of sold.

Picked this up yesterday and put about an hour in. The combat is very much like the Batman games and plays like Assassins Creed. So far I'm liking it.

PS4 version = 1080p/30fps, no significant drops.
