Game is completely mysterious at this point. But I wonder if people noticed the five figures floating in the air Superman style at the end of the trailer? Ever other message board I went to, people seemed to miss that. I wonder if its a biblical post apocalypse thing or maybe dealing with mythological gods of some kind. Or weird Kojima style superheroes...

Those figures made me think of the floating boy in Phantom Pain.

If you thought the first trailer was weird, get a load of this one from the Game Awards:

seems like this game should be a PS5 / Scorpio game. By the time the game is done. (prob 2019)

another kojima hype train.

trying my luck with sony a1e after what feels like being in jail when I look at 2 lg c7's I've had. Jailbars you can see in movies and games isn't acceptable for this kind of money. LG calls it "normal" maybe sony won't with same panel.

I don't know about the rest of you, but watching that 2nd trailer really got me looking forward to the game.

Kojima games are weird. This looks very strange, but very promising with both Norman Reedus and Mads Mikkelsen.

I liked the Guillermo Del Toro cameo, too! I wonder if he'll be in the actual game or not.

Watch the 2nd trailer on a 4K monitor or high resolution monitor. The graphics for this look pretty amazing! Kojima said that this last was running directly on the PS4 Pro.

Kojima did a RollingStone interview in august. He wants to create a new sort of game..''We don't need a game about dividing players between winners and losers, but about creating connections at a different level. My current project, Death Stranding, aims to fulfill this goal.''

I have to admit that their PR strategy is backfiring on me. Each new intentionally-cryptic trailer I see makes me less interested in the game. It's like the slightly-awkward kid who keeps proudly proclaiming "I'm so weird; people don't get me" - no, you're not weird, you just want attention and don't know how to get it other than annoying people.

From the still preview on that embedded video I was going to make a joke about them putting Lindsay Wagner in the game, and then watching the video it turns out that Lindsay Wagner really is in the game. Wow. Didn't expect that.

''I started thinking of who the heroine should be and Lindsay is a very special person to me since my teenage years'' ''She's the person that I admire the most''

A while back Torro revealed how the two creators became friends. Kojima visited Del Toro's amazing Bleak House - a property that contains all kinds of amazing movie memorabilia and even a life-size statue of author HP Lovecraft - and then had dinner at a steak house. "We finished that dinner singing the theme music for Ultra Man."

Here's the trailer:

Here's what Kojima is saying about the game:

Quote:
People have created “Walls” and become accustomed to living in isolation.

“Death Stranding” is a completely new type of action game, where the goal of the player is to reconnect isolated cities and a fragmented society. It is created so that all elements, including the story and gameplay, are bound together by the theme of the “Strand” or connection. As Sam Porter Bridges, you will attempt to bridge the divides in society, and in doing create new bonds or “Strands” with other players around the globe. Through your experience playing the game, I hope you’ll come to understand the true importance of forging connections with others.

There was a private briefing at Gamescom that actually explained what the game's about. Here's a report:

Quote:
The thing that really stood out to me was just how simple this game is at its core. Death Stranding is a game about walking. As Sam Porter Bridges (or as you probably know him, Normal Reedus trapped in the uncanny valley), you are tasked with walking from the East coast of America to the West, reactivating various communication nodes along the way in an effort to spread a message of hope to a nation that has become fragmented and disconnected, taking the idea of unity to pockets of an isolated populous that trades in ambivalence rather than love. That is Death Stranding.

And so you will walk. You will retrace the steps of Amelie, daughter of the President of the United Cities of America, who embarked on her own East to West journey with a convoy sometime before the game kicks into gear. She did this in an attempt to establish a network of communication relays across the country, a network that could deliver a message of unity from her mother, Bridget, who also happens to be on death’s door. That message is that every problem in the world needn't be solved by force; instead, it is hope that can bring us all together.

This is necessary after Central Knot City was destroyed in a terrorist attack – through the use of irresponsible 'Void Outs', the act of coming back from the 'Other Side', from the game's central antagonists. This has pushed pockets of civilisation to disconnect themselves from the government and from each other in fear, choosing to instead go it alone in the wildlands.

Off on the edge of the Pacific is Edge Knot City, home to a group being painted as a decentralised force – separatists and terrorists, the Homo Demens – who are intent on ensuring their own independence. It's on the road to Edge Knot City – on the road to building a bond with the most dangerous and disconnected portion of this vision of a fractured America – where Amelie was captured; she appears to Sam as a hologram projection in everything that we have seen so far, never ageing, looking to him as she did on "back on that beach". She's safe, she tells Sam, and she's free to talk to him and use the facilities as much as she likes – she isn't in a prison, she is keen to note – she just isn't able to leave the confines of Edge Knot City.

Connect the country up to the communication network, see if you can rescue Amelie from the Homo Damens and their leader, Higgs – the 'Man in the Golden Mask' played by Troy Baker – and spread the message of a dying president to halt the otherwise irreversible fracture of society. There's your story in Death Stranding; it's no more confusing than that. It's the drive to get you moving through the world and the core tenant to the gameplay.

...................................nice movie. There a game here, somewhere, hidden under all that exposition? I see Norman Reedus running on empty plains with a giant backpack. That is, to date, the only gameplay I know about. Seriously is there anything else to this game?

I'm still deciding if I'm going to pick this up or not. It really always looked a little too far out there for me but I'm glad developers are pushing the boundaries in storytelling.

I'm looking forward to sinking a decent amount of time into this game over the weekend. I love that more and more titles are released on Friday's. It's already installed on my PS4 Pro and ready to go, and going by past games in my time zone it will "unlock" for play around 11:00pm tonight. I'll wait until after work tomorrow to get a good amount of time in with it on the initial sitting. Last thing I want to do is sit through an hour+ Kojima intro with cutscenes and finally reach gameplay and have to go to bed.

Reviews seem to be all over the place on this one, but there's plenty of sources throwing out perfect scores, so I'm sure it will be enjoyable. Some articles say it's a visual feast for the eyes, and possibly the best looking PS4 game to date. Can't wait to see how it looks on my LG C9.

Like 5 hours in...all last night

I don't know how anyone could give this game a low rating - its so insane and unique and interesting and ABOVE ALL ELSE - incredibly well made and executed

I also love that they literally only spoiled the first few cut scenes with the trailers...

Looks INCREDIBLE on OLED in HDR via regular PS4

Here's my spoiler free update on opening weekend with the game. I played 22 hours of this game over the weekend. It's the most amount of time I believe I've put into a game at launch since the original Destiny released. Visually, it's one of the most stunning looking games, up there with the likes of Uncharted 4/Lost Legacy, God of War, and Horizon Zero Dawn (also on Decima engine). I'm playing this on PS4 Pro which uses 2160 checker-boarding for 4K, and it looks seriously killer on my LG C9 OLED.

The audio in this game is also very impressive. There's no in depth settings to choose from, but the game does a good job of automatically utilizing whatever setup you do have. My simple 5.1 home theater setup made great use of enveloping the player in the world. The sound effects are very crisp and the LFE is abundant. This is definitely a game I would use to demo home theater gaming. This and the aforementioned titles would be the best for showcasing why we spend the money we do on AV equipment.

In order to keep this post spoiler free I won't get into specific gameplay details, but I did have one concern going into this initially, and it had to do with the style of play. I was curious how a game could be so long and keep a players interest when it seemed at first glance that there wasn't much going for it in the gameplay department. Early on I was fascinated but concerned that things would start to get boring over time, but rest assured, the further you get in the game the more options open up to you. Things I never saw coming have really made the gameplay much more interesting and exciting as I progress. I'm having an absolute blast with Death Stranding! That said, I can see how it may not be for everyone. If you're even mildly interested in this one, I would at least suggest you give it a rental, or wait for a sale. If you are one who tends to look at gameplay videos before deciding to buy, know that watching this game would probably bore you to death. It's not a game I would ever want to watch someone play, but it's so much fun being in control of the experience.
