Red Dead Redemption 2 - Coming Fall 2017!

Rockstar has finally revealed what everyone expected, Red Dead Redemption 2 coming next Fall (probably more like Spring or Fall 2018 after the mandatory delay).

I'm super excited already. RDR was my second favorite game last gen and I enjoyed it more then any GTA game. I like GTA but, the old west setting won me over. Like every other fan, I've been dying for sequel ever since the credits rolled on RDR.

Sucks that it is at least a year away, I wish more developers would take Bethesda's lead and mimic their announcement schedule and release for Fallout 4. A whole year, I don't know what I'm going to do with myself.

Looks cool. I'm hoping they come out with a PS4 remaster for Red Dead Redemption beforehand so I can try that out. I'm not sure if I'll get it if I don't have a way to play the original first.

Getting ready for the jump into full-on theater build

There was speculation that this second game is a prequel, in which case you won't need to have played the first one.

(Although I too hope they remaster the first one for PS4, just so more people can play it. One of my favorite games of all time.)

I'd buy a remaster in a heart beat! It would give me something to do while waiting for next fall. Shoot, doesn't even need to be a remaster for me, just make the original backwards compatible like they did for X1.

New trailer about to start.

Edit: It's only a few seconds long so don't expect anything like the Nintendo Switch trailer.

Added the trailer to the first post.

Looks pretty. Can't wait to see some actual gameplay one day. Now the long wait begins.

One thing I noticed was the dog had bad animation. Those front legs did not look right.

Is there a company that provides mocap for digital media? Like an ILM for motion capture. I know there have been games that mocapped a dog. Why can't they re-use old mocap or buy that dog mocap off another company? They always seem to do new mocap in house for every game or am I wrong? I get it for scenes with an actor where they want to capture a specific person's movements while acting. But, when you have generic people doing generic movements, why recapture random walks and what not. Or for this game, a guy shooting a pistol. I'm sure no one would ever know if they just re-used animations from a previous game. As long as it's got a fresh veneer on it.

I don't think the dog looked that bad plus, this game is at least 2 years away after the mandatory Rockstar delay that is sure to come.

There's just something about this, that doesn't feel "western" to me. Gives me more of a gangster vibe. My gripe seems to be the story and characters, so far. I'm sure the game will be amazing outside of the story, if I still feel the same when it's out.

Pretty impressive what they catch from the trailer in this video.

Picked the game up on Friday, have may 7 hours of play time with it and have barely scratched the surface of the main story. All I can say about the world is WOW. Stunning, feels incredibly real. A drop in the mud leaves imprints, gets your character and horse dirty. Go hunting and skin a deer and take the carcass? Well that leaves blood stains over your shoulder where you had the dead skinned animal. Voice acting is superb and characters look unique, especially coming from the latest Assassins Creed which has the worst voice acting and so many of the NPC characters you deal with look the same.

Interacting with the world around you is incredibly well thought out, and the relationship with the horse is fantastic. The first portion of the game starts with your gang fleeing from the law up high up in a mountain during a snow storm. You feel the storm, the coldness, everything about it, it is so superbly done. From the tracks you leave in the snow, to the sound and lighting, I have really never seen anything like it. If you like open world games, this is one you must pick up. I will not say it is my favourite yet, but from the little I have played so far it looks like it will be.

So I found something really...interesting, weird and cool tucked away in the world. It's a hidden puzzle room.

But it's REALLY freak'n cool!! Click at your own discretion though!!

Everyone probably knows this by now but if you have a HDR capable display keep the game in SDR. It looks amazing in SDR. HDR is a huge fail.

This is what I love about RockStar as a game company, so many interesting things. Will be hunting this down tonight after work! This game certainly raises the bar for open world games. Looking at Assassins Creed Odyssey (which I shelved for this game), I thought it was rich and vast... and it is, but compared to Red Dead 2, well you really cannot compare. The details Rockstar puts into these games is amazing.

I love this world. Just riding around, exploring, and seeing things in motion. I was at work the other day and wanted to just see it--no missions, no combat, no hunting, no skinning--just a ride through the game world.

Might be fun to set it up in the background at a party, or for white noise doing homework (instead of a radio). Who knows, maybe this is just a lame idea. :P

Anyone else playing the RDR2 online beta? I've got a few hours in and am probably going to delete my character and create a new one. I was somewhat successful in creating a dude that looked like Mongo from Blazing Saddles, but I don't think I really want to stick with him long term. Your $ and gold carries over to new characters, so I won't lose much other than having to replay the initial missions.

Haha...so what do you think of the online beta? I plan on trying it out tonight. I've mostly heard negative things about it from friends who've tried it out. I was reading a few articles this morning saying the economy is way off balanced.

For the most part, I have enjoyed it. I liked hunting and fishing in the story mode, and that is a good way to earn money online. The missions are decent, but there's not a ton of them yet. There are some interesting PVP modes (bow and arrow only, knives only, etc.). There are always gonna be the people who just come up and kill you for no reason, but I try not to let that take away from the overall enjoyment.
