Donkey Kong Country Returns is so much better of a game without the crappy (and often flaky) motion stuff of the Wii version, FYI.

Does the drop to 30fps mess with the feel of the game?

Not that I've noticed, though I'm not sensitive to that as long as it's a smooth framerate. The increased precision of using a button for rolling as opposed to a shake is well worth it for me.

I got used to the shake controls but I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a handful of accidental deaths caused by sneezing or even just adjusting my glasses while DK was standing near a ledge. Game was already close to perfect; removing the motion controls should just about put it over the top.

Good. I may have to pick it up. Wiimote controls on the original DKCR is what killed the game for me.

The controls aren't entirely perfect, because if you use the D-pad, it switches to an odd button configuration for some reason, but since I just use the circle pad anyway, there isn't any real problem. I'm not a fan of L/R for holding barrels, but that's not too painful.

Still, it's a huge improvement from the Wii, as far as I'm concerned.

I bought Oracle of Ages. I'm a sucker for sales. I've been meaning to play Link's Awakening but I keep getting the feeling I'll see it on Club Nintendo or something.

I'm kind of surprised at the game boy color graphics. The music is also crazy good

Anyone play the Project X Zone demo? It's a great looking game, an SRPG but honestly I have no idea what's going on. You get free rein in the battles, like a fighting game, but I just mashed buttons and won.

I had no idea there was a demo, so thanks. Definitely downloading when I get home.

Demo is 5 uses only, and is pretty tough thanks to it playing like nothing else out there. The combat is fun though.

Also, the game is subs only, no dub.

Played the demo. Yeah, it's pretty confusing. They hit you with a big wall of text explanation at the start but it's so complex I just gave up and skipped it. By the end of the demo I had pretty much figured out most of the complexities, solely from being familiar with the language of videogames, but I imagine a relatively 'casual' gamer would be totally lost. Anyway, it was fun and different, but I wonder if it might get repetitive after a while. Also I was only familiar with a handful of the characters so that appeal was lost on me as well. I'm not sure I'd be interested in this in full price, but maybe when it drops to $20 or so. Yet another demo that convinced me NOT to buy a game right away.

Also, this game is rather uh, fanservicey, in a couple senses of the word.

Eh, if it goes out of print and I feel that strong an urge to play it, won't it be available on the eShop as well?

Probably. Not a big deal for digital buyers, but I am a collector and having a physical case matters to me, to each his own.

Yep, and it actually has Megaman as a playable character, no way I am passing that up.

Oh, an extra playable character might be another story! Even though I'm more of an X and Zero fanboy myself.

It is X and Zero, they are partners in this game.(Not a preorder or day one bonus, if you got that from my post, I just miss the Blue Bomber)

Well I'm loving DKCR on the 3DS. The original on the Wii would have been so awesome if it had Classic Controller support.

Even with all the hype surrounding the PS4 coming out of E3, Pokemon X and Y remain my most wanted games of the year.

Did they just remake the entire overworld of Link to the Past? Sure looks familiar. Link's house, the castle, the first dungeon's location, etc.

I wonder why overworlds fell out of fashion with Nintendo. Ever since the original, exploring that used to be one of my favorite aspects of the Zelda series. But ever since Wind Waker with the exception of Twilight Princess and Capcom's Minish Cap, we've been on rails, empty oceans, Skyward Sword's odd little overworld, etc.

The new game's set in the LTTP world about a century or so later, so it's supposedly going to have the same basic geography but with a lot of changes. I think Aonuma admitted this was something of a timesaver, but also thought it'd be interesting to return to the world after so long and see what's happened to it. I like the idea myself.

I thought it was set just a few years after Link's Awakening staring the same Link. Did they change that?

That's the first I'd heard of it. I'm almost certain Aonuma said it's in the LTTP world, but a "new generation" of Link and Zelda.

That could definitely be interesting if that's the case. But even still, to put the first dungeon in the exact same location? That just seems especially lazy.

Yeah overworlds have been on and off. The Twilight Princess one was lame, and the one in Ocarina is mostly empty. Skyward Sword was just, eh... let's not talk about Skyward Sword.

The new game looks good! Perhaps the "between worlds" bit means another overworld will exist. They said the dungeons would be totally different.
