Deus Ex Human Revolution-Director's Cut...$3.99 in the 12 hr bin. That was one of my favorite games on the Xbox 360. I bought the DC version for PC in the summer sale on the last day for $5.99. I will definitely revisit this one down the road. For those who haven't indulged it yet. The game is awesome IMO. Great story. Terrific choice mechanics. Tough bosses. Superb graphics. great overall game play. It mixes a futuristic noire type style with intriguing choices.

I grabbed Bulletstorm for $3.99 tonight. It is a GFWL...So you'll need an Xbox Live profile to download and play it glitch free. It uses my XBL gamertag & profile. But the game plays beautifully. Terrific graphics. And great game mechanics. I only played 35 minutes. But I can already see this one is going to be fun. Sort of reminds me of Enslaved...meshed with Duke Nukem...with gigantic guns & weapons. I tried multiplayer a bit too. And it feels terrific. I'll finish a SP campaign then give MP a full run. I was always curious about this game on Xbox 360. I'm glad I waited and got it on PC. Because it looks awesome in full 1080p 60.

I was hoping for a little more of a discount on it, but 20% off for Far Cry 4 is pretty good. 33% off with the season pack included apparently too.

Anybody else excited or interested in grabbing this app for Steam.
http://dimmdrive.com/
It's listed in the Steam Sale. I plan to give it a try. And if I really like it...bump my RAM up from 16GB-32 or even 64GB to really optimize its potential. Does anyone know whether Microsoft use a similar memory management scheme with the Xbox One?

I would love to buy more ram. I just can't bring myself to do it. I need low clearance ram for my HTPC. The last set I bought was something like $75 for 2x8g. The cheapest I've seen the equivalent lately is $100-110. Just can't do it.

I never liked ram drives since I always felt like they were redundant with the file cache windows already has, but way less flexible. I have a little program that can read a folder directly into the cache so it has the same effect without all of the drawbacks. Don't get your hopes up though, it doesn't make load times completely go away, it's usually just a hair faster than SSD load times. If you wanna dump money into speeding up loads you're better off raiding a few SSDs than buying enough memory to squeeze a 30gb game into a ram drive.

@BD2003...
I have to admit, I am on the fence about the RAM disk. And even more so after reading your comment. Especially the Windows part. I think the 2 biggest things I'm most disappointed about with PC gaming so far are:
  1. SteamOS-This just isn't happening anyway like I thought it would. No traction and no real support right now. Certainly not the kind that would make a difference
  2. Windows Gaming Mode-For the life of me I can't see why MS can't give us a utility like you experimented with. At least one that will allow us to over ride the full Windows and Apps bootlog. And just launch in a bare bones game mode...with all of the resource hogs disabled. Give me a simple "Game Mode" windows switch during the boot sequence that loads a Win 8 or later game screen with sites of my choice. And a minimalist IE internet connection for downloads & etc. No Bing...& other apps not needed for gaming. If MS made and sold a simple 128-240 GB Game Mode SSD Boot Disk for windows to do exactly what you described...I bet they would sell an ungodly number of them. I'd be first in line. And I bet just about everyone who owned a Windows based PC would own it.
But back to the subject. Since the sale started, I have grabbed the following for $5.99 or less:
  1. Bulletstorm
  2. Bastion
  3. Dust: An Elysian Tail
  4. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
  5. The Moon
  6. Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
  7. 3D Mark Advanced
I'm waiting for the following to dip below $5.99 by end of sale before snagging them:
  1. Fable Anniversary
  2. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zero
  3. Transistor
  4. Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky

I dunno, I think windows 8 is pretty streamlined. There's a lot of extra apps that you dont need but it mostly just takes up a few GB of disk space, the OS itself is very well behaved as far as background activity goes, nothing is constantly churning up your CPU cycles or anything. Maybe they could cut down the memory usage by a few hundred MB, but that's hardly a big deal nowadays either. You could always create a new user profile strictly for gaming that disables all that stuff if it really bothers you.

I did grab Transistor before the sale stopped. Also got:
  • Audiosurf
  • Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes
  • Pacman: Championship Edition
  • Psychonauts
  • Red Faction: Guerilla Steam Edition
  • Titan Attacks: Updated & modded version of the arcade classic...Space Invaders. It's a Blast!
And for once, I stayed on budget. And brought the whole haul in for $50.00. Only $.34 left in the old Steam Wallet. That means, this time around I missed out on: Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zero...Ryse-Son of Rome...Fable Anniversary...and Legend of Heroes-Trails in the Sky. They never hit my $4.99-$9.99 mark. Maybe better luck with them in the summer. I still have to dig deep into this Library now anyway. And start playing to finish all of these games. Overall, I'd rate the 2014 Holiday Sale as average.

Well I picked up probably the biggest mistake ever. Elite Dangerous! I have been wanting a space game and there was something about this one that drew me in that Star Citizen didn't. With how fricking huge this game is I am done buying on steam for a bit. I'm slowly building up credits to buy a new ship (currently own the base model sidewinder). Game is scary fun!

Yeah, I bought an inexpensive joystick/throttle (Thrustmaster HOTAS X) and rigged up some cheap stands for them (as I play on the TV and didn't have anything really at a proper height) solely because of how much fun I was having with Elite Dangerous.

I'd get it if it was single player. I just know I'll get it and get killed by some douche every other second.

Otherwise it looks pretty bad ass.

There's actually a 'solo mode' option. It still requires internet as I believe all commodity pricing is global, but you don't have to worry about other players being jerks that way.

Did you see this? I added this and I can get it to work somewhat. I still have some tweaking to do, but OMG the immersion it can provide is going to be incredible. Now if I only I could have gotten my hands on @bd2003 Occulus Rift then I would have been set

I read about that game a bit, and ran across this article about it:

http://kotaku.com/one-thousand-gamers-embark-to-explore-the-entire-galaxy-1677603818

It has some comments by an ex-NASA employee and is very interesting.
I want an Oculus even more now, but I'll wait for the next gen unit, dev or retail, to get that built-in surround and some spec increases. Exciting!

Yeah, I remember the guy who sold me the rift told me to check out E, but then I found out it was a $75 beta. So...nope. But from everything Ive heard its rift implementation is awesome and I can believe that. One of the biggest problems with the rift is that disconnect between sitting down and walking, and not seeing your hands. If the game is designed around sitting down in a cockpit and has physical controls similar to the virtual ones....that's going to be amazing.

Game is $59 on the website. Though you add in the sounpacks (there is two that you need) it takes it near that $75 mark.

That's the most expensive non-collector's edition of a game I've ever heard of, and its still in pre-release, correct? Wow...

Kinect-like monitoring of your body position, I believe, is an inevitability (asidee from any homebrewed hacks). I had to choose between a Rift and my Seiki 50". Love the TV, but am ever more curious about the other side now.

The Steam Thread

I think it's final now, but yeah, $75 if you wanted to get in early.

I dunno about body tracking, you're even worse than blind when you put these goggles on because you're in another world. You completely lose the sense of where you are in the room. Even just from shifting my weight around from moving my head, sometimes I'd take the goggles off and find out I rolled halfway across the room. Banged my face into my monitor a few times, etc. Like you'd literally need to build a special VR room with cushioned walls and hang the wire from the ceiling if you're crazy enough to stand up with that thing on.
