Shadow of the Tomb Raider got its RTX and DLSS patch and I ran a benchmark with everything maxed out including ray tracing on "Ultra".

Pretty darn demanding but looks gorgeous!

It is actually in between at 3440x1440. (I am assuming you are thinking of 16:8 1440p which is 2560x1440)

I didn't have a chance to test it on the HTPC at 4K but I would imagine it would be in the mid 40s with everything maxed. Maybe tonight I will benchmark the other PC at 4K and then try 4K with DLSS and see how good the DLSS implementation is. Since DLSS needs to be optimized for individual resolutions but the 1440p to 4K DLSS in Metro is quite good now that it has been further trained. Originally it was rather awful.

Debating on pulling trigger on 2080ti or keeping my 1080 till the 7nm RTX. If only nviida would add OS level HDR for gamester am back would be easy

Not looking good...

This is 4K with RT on Ultra:

This is with DLSS enabled which is okay-ish but causes a pastel looking effect (hopefully can be improved with more deep learning training but basically looks like pure 1440p upscaled but doesn't perform as well as my other 2080 Ti with a higher res):

It is fine with DLSS, it just needs more training to up the image quality. Also this is the first build with the features included so there could be more optimization.

Makes sure you don't buy one of the "Non-A" cards listed in this first post otherwise you will have power limits and it won't boost as high.

Interesting, hopefully there is more room for improvement.

Thank you for taking the time to do that, much appreciated.

I don't see that, their least expensive Black edition shows $1195.

The XC can be had for $1184 (promo @ Fry's), that's the one that I have here (figured it's a reference board that can be liquid cooled).

Lock that to 30fps and play with a joypad and within about 2 minutes you'll forget why 60fps was a thing in a game like Tomb Raider, designed from the ground up to be played on a joypad anyhow........don't start with the whole "but muh timings!!!"....

Lock it to 30fps... LOL

No thanks, that is awful. 30fps is rough in almost any game, especially one that requires aiming like Tomb Raider. I would play 1080p120hz on my TV if 4K didn't look so gorgeous.

30fps is fine if you don't know any better but less than ideal.

I'm leaving RTX/DLSS off for now, just enjoying every game maxed out at 4K (at a rock solid 60 fps).

Yeah, the rasterized workload performance is phenomenal. I bought these cards for what they do out of the box and the gained potential over time through better DLSS training and RTX improvements are just the icing on the cake.

I got Metro with my latest card but haven't really touched it since I've been enjoying Division 2 so much with everything on Ultra and spending my most of my time with my framerate at the upper limit of my monitor. Also my SO enjoys playing on the lap keyboard in the living room in 4K60 HDR ultra settings glory.

Arg I am now forced to buy from CDW or tigerdirect. Thinking EVGA black edition is <1200.

Waiting to see if the new valve Vr headset will do the single plug and a good number is resolution from my oculus. Then I am in!

The new Tomb Raider games are impossible for me to get into in the first place. They severely lack the puzzle solving wonder of the originals. Amazing graphics cannot overcome dull gameplay.

Anyway, while not having the extreme crispness, 2560x1440 looks quite good on a 4K display and is a sensible compromise when wanting very high quality visuals and a 60fps lock with a more modest card like the RTX 2070. The 2080Ti is too grossly overpriced for me to consider.

From a visual perspective, the best thing to do with most new high budget games is disable stuff like depth of field, motion blur and chromatic aberration. I've never found those to better the experience. Antialiasing techniques like FXAA and TXAA are also detrimental by softening fine detail to a significant degree; it's annoying how the user cannot disable TAA in Devil May Cry 5.

You can’t get 100fps except in overwatch at 1440p unless you have at least a 2080 or 1080ti. Hell on my 1080 at 1440p on ultra over watch gets 90

If VR You are after (and new much higher Rez ones coming) and high frame rate that 1080/2070 does not cut it.

after playing with gsync and high FPS for a bit on a Alienware 34” 1440p it’s hard not to care about at least 60 and hopefully 90.

Sent that back as I realized I hate IPS

Does anyone get buzzing in their speakers from a GPU? I have my RTX 2080 TI connected to AVR-X3400H connected to powered speakers and I get buzzing when the GPU is doing work. Is there any way to stop this? Do I need to get an AVR with XLR pre-outs?

They call that coil whine. I don't think you have any recourse, but give that term a Google if you like. Not something I have experience in.

I use to have this problem and did a lot of things now it's gone. Trying to think of what all the things I did but some were putting those magnet things on my HDMI cables, replacing HDMI from PC to receiver, running a wire from the case of my PC to the receiver ground plug. It's been about 2 years since I went through this so I can't remember exactly what thing solved it. But it's definitely solvable.

Edit: I think I also put a 2 prong power cord on my PC using one of those cheater plugs.

Does anyone get buzzing in their speakers from a GPU? I have my RTX 2080 TI connected to AVR-X3400H connected to powered speakers and I get buzzing when the GPU is doing work. Is there any way to stop this? Do I need to get an AVR with XLR pre-outs?
I hear coil whine from the card itself on the one in my office computer because it is a few feet to my right but it is only when it is hitting really high FPS and it is fairly heavily overclocked.

However in my HTPC which is going through my Pre-pro, I do not hear anything through the speakers. While my pre-pro is connected to my external amp via XLR, it isn't a true balanced connection though so I am wondering if there may be an issue with the HDMI cable you are using.

Which brand do you have? I definitely don’t want coil wine. Was looking at the Evga as they hit $999 a few weeks ago and missed it

Custom Z9 Game Settings For SDR and HDR
Sony 75" Z9, Denon X4200, Definitive Technologies BP7002 + 9.1 ATMOS, PSV 18" sub

EVGA FTW3 Hyrdro Copper and the one you are looking at is likely a non-A variant which has a lower power limit and won't boost as high. Use the link in my earlier response to you to check the model number.

I haven't owned a graphics card in the past few generations that didn't have coil whine when the FPS goes crazy during a loading screen. My Asus ROG Strix 2080 Ti in my HTPC has coil whine as well in those circumstances and my 1080 Ti that used to be in there and then my Titan Xp that was in my office PC did the same. Only hear it during loading screens or if I put my ear up under a normal gaming load but coil whine is rather normal.

Thanks! I read it - however (tell.me if i am writing) its. 10-20% premium in price for 5% at most headroom (assuming air coolijg).

I had talked myself into a ti up from 2080
