Going from a 1080 it’s a big jump. Loving my philips 4k 43”..... the hdr and insane contrast is perfect . Gsync is nice so 40-60fps is better than 5fps (quake 2, gtx 1080

When I originally posted, I had just glanced at 4k stats. I now realize I mistakenly read their 2080super FE as the regular 2080. I was seeing just a frame or two increase. But still, its only about 4fps over reg 2080 in the game charts I looked at.
I would agree with you if theree was a price difference, but there is not. You are getting more power for the same price. So someone looking to upgrade an older card shouldn't hesitate. Now going from a 2080 to a 2080 super is another matter. If I was in that situation, I'd wait until the 3080 series comes out.

I guess my question is really this with the RT cards. Is ray tracing really "a thing' that will ever be a big thing. Or has more user friendly features like HDR, DV, WCG and even AMDs new super sharpening stolen its shine. I just can't see the price hit on RT cards being worth it. But I sure don't begrudge those that see its greater significance. I'd just like to know what that significance really is over other image rendering features...and actually see it.

It will definitely be "a big thing"... a long while from now. Current use is overhyped, with the exception of Quake II RTX. It is only old games like Quake II that allow it to currently be used to impressive effect on our overpriced RTX cards.

In the meantime, games will have a lot more puddles, shiny floors and mirrors so Nvidia can show off whatever it can within hardware limitations. I suppose there's nothing wrong with that trend when compared to the unwavering trend of motion blur, forced temporal antialiasing and awful looking sharpening filters made to counteract the negative effects of said temporal antialiasing.

Well, metro is not shiny puddles. It’s the first use of volumetric lighting and it’s impressive. Control will be next.

Yes bf5 and tomb raider are edge examples of the tech. Lighting is where it’s wow factor now (quake 2, metro, control, cyberpunk)

I am awaiting my 2080 super, bought it for ray tracing as I think it is the future. With that said I also upgraded to a Samsung super ultra wide HDR monitor (HDR 1000), that really blew my mind, it makes playing a game in sdr so flat looking. Metro Exodus is just amazing in hdr, can’t wait to see it with all the ray tracing as well

Arg! Was waiting for that. Decided on the 43” philips with the 8000:1 native contrast .

It makes a great 39” ultrawide

Reviews of the 35” are spectacular - only 1/2 your z9d price

At that point, may as well just get the 2080ti and enjoy. Once you reach the exosphere of absurd pricing, a couple hundred dollars doesn't mean much.

Yes I know. The time I have spent here debating and reading I could have done a online medical survey and made $300.

It’s my inherent cheapness spending $1 my wife won’t enjoy. I need to medicate myself

Or MSI Ventus OC 300a $969

Anyone prefer one company support over the other for 2080ti?

Was the first person on the forum to get the 75" as Best Buy broke street date and delivered mine early. I paid what the price dropped to from MSRP right before launch. Proud owner since August 2016 and it is about to turn 3 years old soon.

Get ready for yet another case of adding puddles just to show off real-time ray traced reflections. With this particular game, however, the overall RTX implementation has me giddy about the possibilities.

Was playing one of the DLC packs from Far Cry 5, near the end, super happy with the performance and enjoying the HDR of my new monitor then all of sudden my PC rebooted. Right away a nice spark and small flame came out of the backplate on my 2080 Ti FTW3 Hyrdro Copper but it actually displayed video... Needless to say I shut the computer off promptly but here goes RMA time...

Definitely not good. It is seated properly and is integrated into my custom water cooling loop and the card never breaks 60c, just a fault in the card as it sparked out of the backplate just above the EVGA logo up to the right of it. The only thing above that spot are the RAM DIMMs and the card itself is the highest point of water in the build.

Just bad luck as I had ran it for over 6 months prior to this failure. Other EVGA cards have failed the same way unfortunately.

EVGA is the apparent king of cards sparking and catching fire. I was sure to stay away from the brand after the 10-series fiasco. Make sure those fire extinguishers are working, people.

Right, that’s what I was referring to in the post you quoted. Fortunately their warranty is good and they’re one day of shipping away.

Figured after the Pascal issues they’d have learned...

I get a discount through them and wanted a card with a waterblock pre-installed to save time. Hopefully lightning won’t strike the same place twice once I get my replacement.

They had some issues with Maxwell, too. I'll give them credit for good customer service, though consistently providing a greater likelihood to set your house on fire relative to the competitors is unforgiveable.

Well I'm glad I didnt get one now. It would have been an EVGA brand if I didnt get the one I did. When I first got the card I kept hearing fans ramping up over load. Now that I found my psu to have gone bad, plus I got a new cpu cooler, it disappeared. I think it might have been the psu fan. I never actually searched out the noise. I was attributing it to the FE gpu fan, but it is actually extremely quiet.

Well, I'll keep you all updated on my EVGA CARD. I wonder if I should try and research core clocks on it a and see if it's in the high side. While gaming it's usually 1965-1980Mhz with peek of 2010Mhz
