AMD has this round locked up, but Intel will be back with a vengeance. Intel rested on its laurels for too long as the now ex-CEO was chasing interns instead of focusing on innovating further. I do have trust that AMD will remain highly relevant in both datacenter and gaming as long as Lisa Su is the face of the company.

Not for 2 years. The Intel roadmap tells us they have no answer until maybe 2021. Amd by then will be on 5nm.

Sure, but two years isn't long. If all of the high profile acquisitions is any indicator, Intel is currently in a massive internal rebuilding phase and is starting to once again behave as a growth company that isn't afraid to spend money.

Intel will be fine, AMD will be fine, and Nvidia will be fine. All three are firmly placed in markets with exciting avenues ahead. No RIP for any of them for a long, long time.

I currently have the ryzen 7 1700.

Hopefully the 3900X's single threaded performance will be comparable to the 9900k at 5GHZ.

I am planning on getting it since I am playing at 1080p 144hz.

Based upon what is currently known an OC'd 9900K (all core 5Ghz+) will still be the over-all fastest gaming cpu, the only way this will not be the case is if the Ryzen 3000 series cpu's are capable of reaching their boost speed at a all core OC (possible but unlikely). Regarding productivity the Ryzen 3000 series will take the lead.
