Since I work from a home office, I'd LOVE to be able to make some sort of work productivity improvement claim (Think Scarlett Johansson in the movie Lucy working two laptops at the same time at hyper speed) to justify expensing one of these....

Am I right in assuming that the top and bottom of the game is being cropped off?

No. The game renders at the monitors resolution as long as you put it in the game's settings. However, there may be some games that do not support the ultra wide format. Those games would likely be pillar boxed.

Too wide for this PC gamer. 21:9 is a good sweet spot.

I love my desk. I'ts an old Ikea desk that is no longer made. I would have to find a new desk to be able to use this thing. I search for desks here and there, but nothing interesting, plus nothing wrong with the current one, yet. I have a 21:9 monitor that fits neatly in between the side posts. This thing is around 15" wider than a 21:9, if I'm reading the specs correctly. It would burst through my posts. Plus I would need a 2080 or Ti. So that's a desk and $800+ video card behind the $1400 monitor. That's a steep price.

It's definitely a "Luxury" monitor and agree you have to invest in the video card to run it and a desk to hold it.

I agree, that this is a luxury monitor 'today'. But circa 2020-2021...when the new generation of super spec'd consoles (XB Scarlett & PS5) hit the stage...it may be exactly the kind of display millennials & other gamers are looking for to get the 3D immersion. And the price will likely be half or less of what it is today as Sony, LG and others wade in to get their piece of that pie. The nextgen consoles should look spectacular. It and monitors like it should be the display of choice for all gamers caught in between PC and console gaming @ ultra 1080p-1440p-4k. Ultra priced next gen graphics cards seem irrelevant & totally overpriced to me if they can't/won't do [email protected] fps @60-144 Hz on it. And I don't mean just the peaks.

You are much more optimistic than I about future non-streaming consoles. The manufacturers talk about 8K, ray tracing and all that, but I can't imagine the tech being much more impressive than what we see now in high-end, single-GPU PCs. Moore's Law is dead and buried, unfortunately.

Lag?

What to do if you find yourself stuck with no hope of rescue:
Consider yourself lucky that life has been good to you so far. Alternatively, if life hasn't been good to you so far, which given your present circumstances seems to be more likely, consider yourself lucky that it won't be troubling you much longer...

Also, if you want to take advantage of AMD FreeSync 2 you”ll need a compatible AMD video card.
recent nvidia drivers will allow g-sync features to work on Freesync monitors.
only on a few Nvidia approved monitors this will be enabled automatically, but I think you can enable it manually

unless this is different with Freesync 2..

Yes, would love to know how it fares with G-Sync compatibility enabled. For instance, are you able to enable HDR with G-Sync turned on?
