I have panny and PS3 and end up using panny most of the time for NF because it's quicker and easier. The interfaces are about the same. It has DD5.1 and subtitles like PS3, but no 1080P like you said. Picture looks great regardless. Many in this thread swear they're getting 1080P on their panny even though they really aren't.

If you search "All Departments" you will not find that page. The "department" it's listed in is "Everything Else", which doesn't appear in the pulldown list of departments if you just go to Amazon.com. I'm wondering if anyone looking for the disc to purchase can find that listing.

EDIT: That listing does show up if you search Google Shopping for "avatar 3d blu-ray", so it's not "unfindable".

I have may Blu-ray movies from Universal that have an on-disc screen saver. In fact, it overrides the one built into my Oppo. Haven't seen one on my Panny 310 yet.

I didn't even buy mine to play Blu-ray discs (and I can't see parallax-based 3D effects in any case). I bought the thing for the Viera Cast (now Viera Connect) suite of streaming media apps; inasmuch as Panasonic doesn't make a streaming-only box, it was the least expensive device I could get that in.

Some people here have purchased multiple BDTx10s and sold both the discs and players for a large profit.

No way is the netflix signal 1080p. When i download, that's 1080P and is same as Blu-ray. Of course, the DirecTV takes hours sometimes

Maybe that's why I wasn't finding it previously. I just wasn't looking through enough pages of the search results. Again, credit goes to iamian for finding this.

If you buy your 210 for $130 then sell the disc for $130 (latest street price reported), then you've got yourself a free player. When the disc hits the shelves in February for $30 or so, buy it then. While I'm a fan of the movie and of 3D, it's just not worth that kind of money to me.

No, it's not. There are 2 720p encodings for HD Netflix titles and one 1080p. The BDTx10s cannot get the 1080p encodings (yet). Netflix just broadly released the software necessary to add 1080p capability to a player this summer; up to that point only the PS3 and Roku 2 (XD and XS) could get them.

Huh. It's still listed past a few few dozen items which have nothing to do with Avatar 3D and two which do which tell you to sign up to be notified when its available. I doubt that anyone looking to buy it will find that listing by searching Amazon.

I think what may confuse some people is the fact that their BDTx10 -- if set to auto or 1080p and paired with a capable HDTV -- will upscale the image to 1080/60p.

The difference between Netflix' 720p and 1080p isn't always "startling". Compare the following frames from Netflix titles:

http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/2...nk202xhigh.png

http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/7...ank206high.png
http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/3...nk206xhigh.png

http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/430...dent04high.png
http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/428...ent04xhigh.png Each pair is the same frame of a film (the first two pairs from Ong Bak 2: The Beginning and the third from the titles of something called The Resident, chosen for having lots of fine detail); the first of each pair is 720p and the second 1080p (To compare, I suggest opening them in different tabs in Chrome, hitting F11 to blow up to fullscreen and flipping back and forth between them with CTRL-TAB--I like to use Chrome for this because it does fullscreen better than any other browser I know, with no frame of any kind). On close examination you can see that 1080p is sharper, but not so much that it'd make a difference to Joe Average. (The images are from msgohan's "Netflix PS3 streaming comparison PIX" thread).

Prices on eBay are quite a bit lower for some reason, copies on Amazon were selling for a lot more.

It takes a few weeks to get the disc by mail, as stated you had better hurry up and get it and sell it before the exclusive period ends, once that happens you will no longer be able to sell it for anything more than MSRP since every store will have it.

Mine took 8 weeks but ebay prices were deceiving, auctions seemed low but someone did buy it now from me for 100. Not bad considering it was up for a day on a 7 day auction.

It'll be at least another year before I have a 3D tv so why not use the disc as a coupon lol. By then it'll probably cost 15 for the disc.

Question: I'm reading here that some have gotten Avatar in 2, 2 1/2 weeks. I mailed my rebate about 10 days ago and the rebate form said allow 8-14 weeks for delivery. The Panasonic rebate website seems useless. My 3D TV (Sony KDL-55HX729 arrives 12/17) and I'm excited!

I bought about 6 3D Blu-rays ranging from Shrek Forever After, Legend of the Guardians to the RealD production of the opera Carmen in 3D. It was a black Friday w/e deal at Best Buy (not mentioning prices)that was irresistible. I love 3D anything and currently have a nice enough Sony Bravia KDL-52EX701 but really was chomping at the bit for 3D. I replaced my receiver with a similar model that is 3D enabled.

Anyway, I mailed the rebate for Avatar Priority with Delivery Confirmation and it was received. Just wondering how long.

Thanks

Having downloaded (takes forever) 1080p PPV from DirecTV, I definitely see a major difference between 1080p and 1080i. My Apple TV is 720p and the difference between 720p and 1080p is huge. Your sample screen shots are subtle but I think actually watching the films is very noticeable. I've joined Netflix and installed it on my BDT210, my Sony KDL-52EX701 and PS3. I did look briefly but didn't see where any films are 1080p on the PS3.

Nearly all titles which have any HD encoding have a 1080p one; I've only run across a few that didn't and those were pointed out to me by others. They don't mark the descriptions in any way to indicate the availability of a 1080p encoding, probably because they intend for all titles to have them.

While playing a title on the PS3, hit SEL (or DISPLAY on a remote) and it will put that little overlay in the upper lefthand corner that you see on those frames that I posted links to. It will slowly (or quickly, if bandwidth on your connection is high enough) ramp up through various encodings, displaying "Low/SD", "Medium/SD", "High/SD", "Medium HD", "High HD" and finally "X-High/HD". How far you get depends on available bandwidth on your connection to Netflix' servers (not the nominal data rate of your Internet service plan--I have 25 Mbps cable modem service and sometime can't get a connection to Netflix which will sustain High/HD, which only takes about 5 Mbps; at those times I can download files from other locations at much higher speeds).

In viewing on laptop screen it is but a small subtle difference for me most observable like say in the cheekbones on the first set of pics. I suspect the closeups of asphalt or the brown waving grass scenes on movies like No Country For Old Men could showcase the difference better.

It's very clear in the title graphics in the third set, all over the screen. Look at the texture of the bricks, the railing on the fire escapes, etc, etc. Personally I find faces to be good for comparison, because they're full of little details. Of course, the young kids in those two frames from Ong Bak 2 don't have any lines, wrinkles or creases in their faces .

Here are two more that you can compare, from Let the Right One In:
http://img542.imageshack.us/img542/2...s31080high.png
http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/5...31080xhigh.png At 1080p subtitles outside of the picture in the upper black bar disappear, so it currently provides a quick test of whether your device can display the 1080p encodings (only the PS3 will tell you itself with that little overlay).

I use the same 46" 1080p LCD panel as monitor for this PC as everything else, with the resolution set to 1080p, so its pretty easy to see the differences.

It took about 3 weeks for my Avatar disk to arrive but that was last March.

I use the same 46" 1080p LCD panel as monitor for this PC as everything else, with the resolution set to 1080p, so its pretty easy to see the differences.

Great movie, BTW. Yes there is a marked difference between the images.

Until about 7-10 days ago, the title was easily found on the first Amazon page (of search results). Amazon has been doing some very strange things with that title lately. I began to think they were getting some heat from Panasonic or something and so they pulled the listing, and along with it as a consequence, tossed overboard the several dozen sellers offering the title.

I had placed a couple of the discs in my Amazon cart a couple weeks ago, not to buy, but just to track how long it took for them to sell out from under me. When they do sell, you typically get a "this title is no longer available from this seller" message. But instead, those two discs just up and disappeared, as if they had never been placed in my cart at all. And the two existing Amazon Avatar 3D category listings (one of which displays the wrong cover) were no longer active either from a buyer or seller perspective. That's when I knew something really odd was going on. Eventually, I stumbled upon the same new working link/listing that you guys did.. but as we can see, it's MUCH further down the search results list. Very strange.

http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/430...dent04high.png Each pair is the same frame of a film (the first two pairs from Ong Bak 2: The Beginning and the third from the titles of something called The Resident, chosen for having lots of fine detail); the first of each pair is 720p and the second 1080p (To compare, I suggest opening them in different tabs in Chrome, hitting F11 to blow up to fullscreen and flipping back and forth between them with CTRL-TAB--I like to use Chrome for this because it does fullscreen better than any other browser I know, with no frame of any kind). On close examination you can see that 1080p is sharper, but not so much that it'd make a difference to Joe Average. (The images are from msgohan's "Netflix PS3 streaming comparison PIX" thread).

Wow, I didn't expect the difference to be this clear -- particularly visible on the close-ups with skin, hair and fabrics. I've been impressed with how well NF rendered at 720p, often preserving detail that I only would've thought possible at 1080. But this shows how we're still missing out on our Panasonics.

The third set (bricks and titles) may be the best example to you, but I couldn't say since you linked the same image twice

Good info as always, Mike.

I am unable to start Viera Connect tonight, I get persistent connection error. Network test runs fine.

Others experiencing the same?

Don't overlook shenanigans from others sellers, not unlike some who flag others' Craigslist ads to bolster their own.

A Google search will reveal a thread on Amazon's seller forum where someone questioned the Promotional label on the disc, and reported it to Amazon. They could have pulled it, then reconsidered.

In any case, those still wondering about fulfillment in proximity to the end of the exclusivity period should hope that the rebate house that handles the offer processes the next batch in a timely manner.

OTOH, although the period expires in February, there has been nothing to indicate that a general release of the movie will occur in the immediate aftermath, other than assumption. Fox, Cameron, and/or Panasonic could announce something at CES and derail that thinking, and potentially preserve the market value for a longer period.

Me, I don't get the hoopla over the movie nor the technology. Selling the disc was a nice bonus, but my player was already a gift, so it was just gravy that enabled me to return the favor to the gifter.
