I had a Marantz UD5005 and it had the same issue. No support for gapless FLAC. Even the NA7004 does not support gapless FLAC. Though I've read the NA11S1 does, but it is also $3500. I think an $80 ROKU supports it, so I am not sure why the other products do not.

I switched everything from FLAC to ALAC using dpoweramp (Best ripper / tools I've used) and got an AppleTV. I use Airplay to the NA7004 in my 2-channel and to the AppleTV in the home theater.

The AppleTV also supports video and has a much better UI than Marantz.I also got tired of messing around with various DLNA servers. JRiver kept crashing on me.

I essentially gave up on the perfect all-in-one player / streamer. It doesn't exist yet. I'd much rather spent $99 on a streamer that work w/ minimal setup and go for a cheaper blu-ray player. Unless you really need SACD this option may work for you.

I guess the UD5005 really left a bad impression. But hey, at least the UD5007 has faster load times. The UD5005 did not support FLAC at all. I think they were afraid it would cut into NA7004 sales.

We currently own the AV7701 and the MM7055 from Marantz. The UD5007 will be our newest addition to the pack tomorrow. Now as you all might know, the UD5007 has HDMI output and 2 channel stereo output.

Of course, it's quite obvious that HDMI out goes to BluRay HDMI IN on the AV7701. However I'm wondering, when I play a SACD / CD, is the HDMI connection also used to just send the 2-channel audio signal? Or are there benefits possible in sonic performance if I connect the HDMI out as it is but also connect the 2 channel audio out to CD RCA audio in on the AV7701?

The reason why I might consider this as an option is that for watching movies it uses the HDMI. But for listening to CDs, I'd be putting the AV in 'pure direct' so disabling the "digital" components of the AV (which should result in better sound performance) but then I'd loose the HDMI processing (splitting the audio and video signals) - right?

  1. Just HDMI out to HDMI in from UD5007 to AV7701 - for both movie playback as well as SACD/CD?
  2. HDMI out/HDMI in for movies, and secondary connection 2-channel audio out to CD audio IN for music playback (and putting AV in pure direct)?

Thanks!

Just select the Pure Direct option on the UD5007 for CD playback. Deselect for HDMI and Blu-ray/SACD playback.

Considering this unit to replace my Denon DBP-1611UD, the drive of the my unit has gotten extremely noisy, especially with 3D discs. I'm out of warranty and the repair which will replace the drive traverse will end up costing me $300+taxes. Luckily my credit card doubles the original warranty and they will send me a cheque for the amount of the repair. I'm free to use this money however I would like, so rather than fix the old unit and have a 90 day warranty I thinking of buying a new player instead with the money.

I really liked how fast my Denon was in regards to disc load times and I expect this player to be on par or better. My question is in regards to streaming. For netflix does this player support SuperHD and DD+ 5.1?

The UD5007 is faster than the DBP-1611UD. Load times are a bit slower (but probably not slower than the 1611) though if you use eco mode so just keep that in mind. The included netflix app supports SuperHD as well as DD+5.1.

So I just received this player bought through accessories4less. I having a strange issue in that for some reason it is not syncing up with my receiver via the HDMI inputs in the back. I tried all seven of them, no dice. Now when I use the HDMI on the front of my Onkyo bam I get a picture, at this point I'm thinking crap the HDMI board on my receiver is toast. So I hook up the Denon blu-ray player I'm intending to replace with the Marantz, I get a picture via the rear HDMI in, so thankfully it's not the receiver. As a test I tried a direct hook up of the Marantz to my Samsung plasma and it works I'm able to get a picture.

What's happening here? I'm unable to get the new Marantz player to play nice with any of the HDMI inputs on the back my receiver yet I'm able to get a picture via the front HDMI of my receiver and directly hooking up to my display. Again hooking up my old player shows no issues with the rear HDMIs of my Onkyo.

Equipment used-
Onkyo TX-NR3009 receiver
Samsung PN60E6500
Denon DBP1611UD - old player
Marantz UD5007 - new player

I assume this was all done with the same HDMI cable?

If you mean have I tried different cables, yes I have. I tried using the cable that came with the Marantz and also tried using the one I have, same issues, no picture via connection to the rear. Using my current player has no problems with either cable.

I bought another player a Sony BDP S790 to test and the player works perfectly on my receiver. This Marantz player must be defective. I should add that after playing around with it the Sony is a really nice player. If only Sony would sport the same sort of chassis the Marantz and Denon players have I would be sold.

It still seems strange to me that the Marantz works with the front HDMI input and directly with the television. That would tell me the player is fine. Perhaps it's a setting issue with the Onkyo or a resolution setting issue that causes the no video problem specifically with the Marantz.

I thought the same thing, I've changed the resolution on the player, made sure pure direct wasn't engaged. I've also reset the player, still no change. Of the three players in my house the Marantz is the only one not working, so there has to be something wrong with it. If there was something wrong with the Onkyo then the other two players wouldn't work as well, but they do.

At this point, the Marantz player is definitely a suspect. I´m still wondering about the tx-nr3009 and possible HDMI issues however. I guess it might be time to send the player back or contact Marantz customer support.

I have an original Fat PS3 but am considering getting the Marantz UD5007. How do they compare? The only format that the PS3 doesn't read is DVD-A as far as I know.

I was wondering the same thing (although I have the PS3 slim) and am about to find out smile.gif. I'll post back in the thread with my thoughts on how they compare once I get some time with the unit.. Also, BB Magnolia has the UD5007 on sale for a pretty good price if anyone is looking to buy this player.

Can anybody comment specifically on the audio. My Denon DVD-1920 (almost) universal player has croaked. I don't care about picture since we stream a lot, but i have a lot of SACD and DVD-A that i listened to on the Denon. I have other marantz components but i want what will give me the best audio, not necessarily the best picture. I'm vacillating between the Marantz and the oppo bdp 95 as they are in my price range.

Both players offer excellent audio quality. However, the Oppo, IMHO, offers superior connectivity and more importantly 5.1/7.1 analog connections for SACD/DVD-A. The Marantz only offers HDMI (single) and 2.0 analog connections.

I got my replacement from Marantz, so far no handshake issues like before. It seems that I lucked out as it seems I got an A-stock as replacement. The first one I received from A4L had a refurb sticker right on it, the new one has no such sticker and has a manufactured date of Oct 2013.

That's great. Hopefully this one continues to perform issue-free for you.

I hope so as well. So far it has all that I could as for in a player. It's fast loading discs and it provides an accurate unaltered picture. One plus it has over my Denon 1611 I replaced is it's Netflix app. I now have SuperHD and DD+ 5.1 sound.

Does anyone know if an iPad/iPhone can be used to stream Spotify or Pandora through the front USB port? And how does the DAC in this player stack up to the DAC in the NA7004? I know they are different devices, but I only have the budget for one source component at the moment. I'll mostly be listening to Spotify/Pandora and playing FLACs stored on my NAS. Thanks.

Unfortunately no, the USB port on the UD5007 will not function in this manner. You could do that with the newer Marantz AVRs however. Regarding the DAC, the UD5007 uses the PCM1781 whereas the NA7004 uses the Cirrus CS4398. The CS4398 is the same DAC used in their CD players and SACD players. I think the DAC "stacks" up very well to the other components I mentioned.

Hi. How the SQ of FLAC files are comparable if they are played via the usb port of a SR7007 AVR or that of an UD5007 player? Thanks.

I think the difference in SQ would be minimal if non-existent.

Last night, my UD 5007 quit playing for a bit. It did not show as connected to the receiver. When I connected it to the TV direct, it still did not show up. I switched HDMI cables and that did not help. I did a soft reset on it by unplugging it for a couple of hours and running the trusty cheapo bluray standby player. Afterwards, I hooked the Marantz back up and it worked. Is there a way to to a hard reset on the UD5007. I could not find anything in the manual. I would like to see if it just needs a reset before sending it in for repairs. The return date ended Feb 14. Thanks for any help.

Yes, hold play and forward track buttons together for a few seconds and this will do a factory reboot. It should say "initializing" and then "initialized" when finished.

I hope that this works for you. If not, the 3-year warranty is nice except for the waiting part if repair is required.
