Are you able to play the DSD64 files via Foobar or JRiver using Asset uPnP?

I am trying to come up with a solution to the "gapless" issue.
Asset uPnP installs itself on your computer as a server. You have to go into its configuration program to make it play your music files without transcoding or down-resing them.

From the home screen, click on the network icon. Then you will see a list of media servers on your network. If you are using ordinary Windows sharing, and you have turned on sharing on your PC for your music folder, you'll see the name of your computer. If you're using Asset, it will also show up as a server. In either case, you click through to the music files you want to play and click on them, then they will play to your receiver (I use an HDMI connection to my Denon AVR).

Foobar is a music player. There is an available component called "UPnP MediaRenderer Output 1.3.2," but I don't use it. Foobar has no relevance to streaming music files on your PC to the Oppo, and you don't need to have it for that purpose.

If you can't get Gapless Play on the Oppo to work with DSF (i.e., DSD64) files, then one option you have is to use foobar to join a bunch of files into a single file; you can keep the originals, too.

I don't have JRiver, so I can't comment on it.

Denon x4400h, Samsung LED 1080p TV, B&W 704 mains, two M&K subwoofers, Oppo 103, Roku 2, Darbeevision, etc.
Headphone system: Focal Clear, Sennheiser HD600, AKG K702, Hifiman HE-400i, Marantz HD-DAC1, Denon DVD-3910

Foobar will play the ISO directly.

So I have been able to create a relatively poor workaround for the gapless issue. Sonore has software that will create a file of the entire SACD ISO not broken into tracks. That format is not recognized by the Marantz, but can be converted to a DSF file by JRiver. The resulting file is huge but does work. And in direct mode on the Marantz it sounds great. Listening right now to Dark Side of the Moon in surround and its glorious.

There is also software from Tascam that combines individual tracks. I suppose there might be a way to convert the ISO file in JRiver as a single file but it was not obvious to me so for now this works. But of course I am open to suggestions.

The best method will be to come up with a way to stream from the HTPC to the Oppo. I think my issue might be that I was using the HDMI from the NVidia chip based card directly to the Marantz, and the HDMI from the motherboard for the Oppo connection. But I suspect that this second connection is not getting data. So I purchased a HDMI splitter and will attach that to the NVidia card. Tomorrow’s project!

Thank you all for your input.

Hmmm....

I use the same Sonore ISO2DSD software to create continuous .dff files from my ISO file back-ups. Here's what I do: -

01: Launch the Sonore ISO2DSD software.
02: Load the required ???.iso file.
03: Visit 'Output Mode' and select the 'DSDIFF Edit Master' option.
04: Select/check the 'Convert DST to DSD' option.
05: Select 'Execute'.

The 'DSDIFF Edit Master' option will create a continuous .dff file, complete with a 'Cue sheet' file.

I can confirm that my OPPO, Onkyo amplifier and even my Win10 laptop with MPC-BE can play the (stereo and multi-channel) .dff files fine

Cheers

Thanks to everyone who has helped out.

It does appear that the best option is to play DSF files and / or DFF files from the NAS.

I was able to output the HTPC into the HDMI in on the 103. I could send video and PCM audio from the 103 to the Marantz receiver.

But I still could not get it to play directly via HDMI. It appears that the unit does not support DoP (per JRiver forums). And the USB input only works for hard drives / sticks not HTPC USB output. It turns out that the 105 had the ability to act as a USB connected DAC for DSD but not the 103.

But at least I can digitally play my SACD ISOs, even though an conversion (via Sonore or other software) is required.

But for some reason I got no sound from CD’s or SACD’s. Later I have learned that SACD is not possible
using the main output.
I have it setup using bitstream, and movies with Dolby and DTS tracks work fine. Also DVD Audio works.
But not CD’s..

The same settings works dandy with the second output. No difference when changing dual/single output
settings. I have also tried turning on internal decoding, still no CD sound.

Note that this used to work, something happend with the latest firmware or the one before it.
This happened to me yesterday. First time it's ever happened. ZERO sound output on CD. I'm using the dual A/V setting. I unplugged the power for about 30 seconds, reconnected it, and suddenly CDs play fine again. I think sometimes these things just need a re-boot.

Amazon HD music

Im trying to ditch tidal and consolidate under amazon services. Is there a way without a PC to stream amazons hd service to my oppo 103? I think no after reading but want to make sure before I give up.

Ive tried iphone>digital video apple connector via HDMI >oppo (got 16/44) and amazon 4k fire stick (got 16/44). Still have to try iphone>camera connection kit with powered hub>USB in on oppo.

Anything else?

Thanks, Leo

I had my 203 locked into Dolby Vision for blu rays but while trying to find out why I lost audio and video I changed something. What are the steps to get it back. I stayed up late fiddling but never could find the right steps. I was getting the DV pop-up previously but not now even though I have HDR set to DV in the menu.

Yeah sometimes we forget that the simplest trouble shooting (rebooting) could just be the solution. Works 90% for me as well. Cheers!

Hey all, first of all thank you for your advice on getting this unit going with DSF files.

I have not played that many discs since obtaining the unit. Last night I started playing a disc and had a number of glitches. The same disc plays OK on my 83, etc. Other discs seem OK so far.

Is that just a situation of one disc being a bit finicky or is this a sign that the laser is dirty or going bad?

It MIGHT be the HDMI cable.

I had issues with Carole King's Tapestry 5.1 SACD glitching on one song. I thought it was a dirty disc. After replacing the HDMI cable with a Monoprice Certified Premium HDMI cable, the glitches stopped.

OK I would have thought that was black magic. But I played the same disc for a minute or two after changing out the cable and ... it works. I need to play it longer but you are on to something there. Who would have thunk?

The ghost of Stevie Ray Vaughan is smiling at you (the disk in question was Live at the El Mocambo).

Oddly enough, it is often a short HDMI cable that can have issues, where one at least 3'-6' long has less chance of having an issue. Then there is quality of the connectors on the cable, etc.

We always thought it was a timing issue. HDMI is tested at 6ft. Longer is obviously an issue but shorter will mess up the timing expectations too.

That said, I've used 18" cables without trouble. This was long before 4k, though.

Let’s go with the signal cable equivalent of room modes.

Help with Youtube TV through OPPO BDP-103...

Tried searching and could not find an answer. My habit is watching TV in my theater with no sound and listening to music streamed from my phone to my Yamaha RX-V2085.

Until recently I've had Directv wired to my OPPO BDP-103 but I've cut the cord and now steam Youtube TV. I'm looking for a way to stream Youtube TV to the OPPO (not from my phone) while still listening to music streamed from my phone.

I'm not as tech savvy as I'd like to be. Anyone have a suggestion how to get this done. Can I download Youtube TV onto the Oppo?

Why is the Oppo in the loop at all? Just use the Yamaha for video from your streaming device and audio from Airplay or whatever you're doing for music.

So thanks for helping me out here, i appreciate it). I can stream video, say from my laptop, through the Yamaha which will feed my projector and then I can stream my music from my phone also to my yamaha and run that audio through my system? I haven't had the Yamaha long but I'll research to see how I can carry video from one source and audio from another through the Yamaha.

Am I making sense?

I guess what I'm asking is can I replace my Directv box with something so I can run youtube tv to my projector?

Roku, Apple TV or Fire TV (stick, cube, box, etc.)

For mixing different audio and video sources, you'll have to check the manual. I only know how Denon works. My Denon has a settings page where I can set up sources that use any video and audio input.

I've owned my 103 since the beginning (also have Philips BDP7501 for 4K BR); love it and mostly use it for its sonic qualities, i.e., CD's, network FLAC files, etc;also streaming MKV files. I also own an OPPO Sonica DAC.

Just wondering if anybody could give me suggestions on what BR player to replace the 103 with (when its time, hopefully not for awhile) going forward, that would replicate the sonic qualities of the 103 and would also have quality 4K performance.

Sadly jmacari,

You've missed out on being able to get hold of a brand new OPPO UDP-203 or 205

..I know....just didn't want to drop all that coin at the time; so I bought the BDP 7501 just for 4K BR. Like I said, the 103 is still going strong....and I like all the nice things that the Sonica Dac does with my music. Just trying to "future proof" myself....lol
