The 103D will come with a HDMI cable in the box. It is a pretty stout cable too, but I didn't use mine as I already had some cables run where it was going. I would imagine it to be more than adequate if they are including in their box. Not 100% sure on length but I think it is in the 5-6' range.

I have to agree with Bill.

I would match up Mono-Price against the boutique cables any day

3 years ago I bought 4 / 4K Ready HDMI cables from MP for less than 40 bucks. ( for all 4 )

Try doing that with 4K - 18Gb rated Monster Cable

Later

The cable that comes with the 103D is 6ft.

Added Impressions:
- I love the remote. Great feel and weight. Also love the white light buttons.
- Build quality is above any other bluray player I've ever owned.
- CD Playback: Music sounds great. Will try Analog out this weekend to see if there is a difference. At this time, with A-B comparisons with another BDP I have in my rack, they are tied but i feel have different sonic signatures(via HDMI).
- Video Playback: I'm really impressed with the picture at default settings. It looks great and has such incredible depth. Last night I adjusted the Darbee and VRS settings and watched Avengers and Days of Future Past. My other player is no slouch AT ALL, but the video may get me to use this as my full time player for movies.

We shall see. I'm no expert like many of you on here but I'm learning and trying to figure out what is myth and what is fact on my own. All part of the hobby, right? Thanks for reading.

For 6' cables just make sure they are sold as "high speed" at Monoprice, Amazon or BlueJeans. I get the lightest gage from Monoprice as a rule to reduce strain on the HDMI connections.

I've been future proofing my collection in purchasing the Combo 4K versions as they release and its just killing me to see how look but I won't make the mistake of jumping the gun to another player as I did with Blu ray.... I must have burned through 3 players before I landed on the BDP 83 when it released.

I believe the 4K supposed to come out in November/December this year. My question is, what will it cost? I'm hoping no more than the same price as my current 103D. I'm not going 4K for a while. Will wait until they have a comparable 4K player in the $4k range. Then I'll consider.

Did you mean a 4K display in the $4K range?

Vizio has one now. The P-Series P75-c1.

Sounds like what I did, only I started earlier in DVD players. I owned 5 different DVD players (3 of them multi-region) before I finally got the Oppo DV-983H. I didn't buy a BD player until the 83. Now I'm waiting on a 4K player. There's enough other 4K content, and I also have 4K upconvert for 1080p, so I can patiently wait until Oppo releases their 4K player.

Keeping the 103D. I just love having both the S790 and the 103D in my lineup. I love the look of the 103D. Now running RCA 2-channel to my SC-65 for cd/sacd playback. Can't say there is much of a difference between the RCA and HDMI playback at this time. Will continue my testing on this as well. Time flies when you're having fun!

If you're running stereo analog to an AVR, it is almost certainly being A-D-A converted in the AVR. So you wouldn't expect to notice any difference between than and HDMI. Unless the AVR specifically offers a pure analog direct mode, which most of them do not. Using multi-channel analog inputs on an AVR should avoid that extra A-D-A conversion, but also bypassed bass management and EQ (DSP).

That's exactly what the SC-65 can do. I set it to Analog Direct mode by selecting Pure Direct mode on it. To add: The amp is set to OFF on the SC-65, thus only giving it pre/pro functions.

Anyone else use Tidal through their 103D ?

I've been getting some stuttering lately and wasn't sure of it's the Oppo or the Ethernet connection.

I stream Tidal from my Bluesound Node that sits above the 103D without issue and it's running wireless.

Just finished streaming eight Prince tracks with no hiccups on my 103D. I also have a Bluesound Vault and it streams with no hiccups also, but it is connected via Ethernet like my Oppo.

I use Tidal on 103D 3x a week i would say and no issues. I would say 30x no issue and then ones stopped playing after 1/2 hour. I guess it is Comcast internet connection issue. I do have 120mb/s fast speed and I use Apple Airport extreme.

Settings for 103D

Sorry fellas; searched and searched and no clear answer. Do I leave factory settings on my 103D alone (other than Darbee)? Have it connected via HDMI 1 to Denon 2113ci. I reviewed the Water Shade checklist but wasn't sure if bolded was recommendations as it stated bolded was default.

Thanks!

The FAQ has some suggestions: What are the recommended settings for the OPPO BDP-103?

Question. Currently my directv sat. box is hooked up to my Yamaha 3050 and the receiver is hooked up to the TV. Can I incorporate the 103D into that chain so as to get a benefit from Darbee?

^ Yes. Cable DirecTV to OPPO input. Cable OPPO output to Yamaha. Cable Yamaha output to TV.

In OPPO, use Input button to select the HDMI from the DirecTV when you want to view it.

If you want the OPPO to do all the video processing, set its output to 1080p, and set the DirecTV to output whatever resolution is coming in on the channel you have viewing: 480i for SD channels and either 1080i or 720p for HD channels. (Often called "Native" Resolution.) Expect an HDMI handshake delay when you change channels.

Hey guys,

Anyone have problems with initial set up of there 103d?..I have had mine for a week now and just boxed it up to ship it back. Bought it direct from oppodigital.com.. I am no stranger to oppo players, this is my 3rd and the 103D would have replaced my 93. I have been on the phone and e-mail with there techs, and they just have a hard time believing my problems. At first I could see NO improvement using Darbee and could not get the split screen divider bar to disappear until I rebooted it..But the real problem came with inconsistent picture quality when watching blu ray movies. Some movies looked good, no artifacts and clean pic, while other movies I am very familiar with , Avatar was one, looked dull in color and obvious artifacts, no "pop" in the picture..It was so bad after 30 seconds of viewing my wife said, I can't watch this..This was after calibrating the player with Spears & Munsil, which I have used several times before with my other Oppo players

I disconnected the 103D and reconnected my 93 and problem solved!..Beautiful pic!. I went through 2 days of trouble shooting with tech, who were very nice. They gave me a RMA # and said they would refund my money to me minus shipping.. I so wanted to like this player, it has a great reputation. I'm just reluctant asking them to send me another player fearing the same problems? Your thoughts?.. By the way my other gear is Marantz 7010, Epson 5020 projector on a 128 inch screen..

Given that you are a 93 owner and that you have been at AVS for such a long time, I'm surprised that you didn't post here a week ago. I used the settings recommended in the thread for the 93 when I first installed it, and I've never changed any of them. I assume that with OPPO's help, you must have been doing something similar with the 103D. One week is pretty fast for a return on a unit that tech support can't identify as broken.

[QUOTE=htwaits;44025010]Given that you are a 93 owner and that you have been at AVS for such a long time, I'm surprised that you didn't post here a week ago. I used the settings recommended in the thread for the 93 when I first installed it, and I've never changed any of them. I assume that with OPPO's help, you must have been doing something similar with the 103D. One week is pretty fast for a return on a unit that tech support can't identify as broken.

Your right, one week does seem fast for a return but I spent several hours trying to set this player up. Which maybe should take an hour on initial setup..I'm just frustrated. The end results when watching blu ray movies, most looked like standard dvd's.. And no blu ray movies pq where better than my 93. Very odd?.. I did ask the techs to let me know there results when they have a look at the player.

Did you own a 93 before you got the 103D?.. If so, was the pq equal to or better than the 93?..I would think yes!..

If you were expecting Bluray picture quality to be better than the BDP-93, your expectations were too high as there really isn't much processing involved. The reasons to upgrade from the 93 to a 103 would be more for the new features that were added rather than for expectations of better picture quality. Based on your description of the problems you had, it's possible you got a defective player.

It's also possible you just didn't set it up properly. You mentioned calibrating the player, when in most cases you should be leaving the player at the default settings and calibrating the display. And if you turned Darbee on and cranked the settings up to near maximum levels, that could result in degradation of picture quality to the point where it wouldn't look very good. Darbee is supposed to be a subtle effect that you barely notice, so typically shouldn't be cranked up too high.

The problem you report with the Darbee Demo Mode divider line says there is something broken in the player. You should be able to go in and out of Demo Mode on the fly while viewing a Blu-ray movie, with the divider line turning on and off immediately.

A failure like that suggests either a problem with the remote (the commands not being received) or with the Settings Memory.

If Settings Memory is broken, all sorts of odd results can happen.

If you had both HDMI outputs cabled, another possible point of confusion is if you got them backwards, and thus were adjusting video settings for the cable you were not actually using for video at the moment.

But really there are no gotchas moving from a 93 to the 103D, so if the player wasn't cooperating it was probably broken.

I'd suggest you get a replacement 103D from OPPO. Your reported issues are definitely not normal.

Thanks everyone for the responses!...Bob, I had only one HDMI output cabled... I will either request a replacement or may just wait until the rumored new models come out this fall?..I will be curious what the techs find when they have a look??..

I own the 93, but I read the 103 and 103D threads. It doesn't sound like you got your expectations from either of the 103 threads about PQ other than the modest enjoyment some members have gotten from the subtle use of the Darby feature.

I moved from an OPPO DVD player to the 83 Blu-ray player for the ability to play Blu-ray disks. I moved to the 93 to be able to play backup .ISO files and other features. I didn't move to either of the 103 models because I wasn't interested enough in the new feature set to do a trade up, and I would have lost the ability to play .ISO files. I still read these threads because I love OPPO products.

When the Kuro dies it's last death, I'll go 4K OPPO and display, but I will not trade the 93. It'll still be in our rack. It sounds like a marriage. The one I'm in is 53 years old this August.
