I just took a look at two of the MKV files that cause this error message to appear and this is what I found:

1) Andrea Bocelli: Vivere - LPCM 5.1, 48kHz, 16-bit
2) Tinker Bell (Disney) - LPCM 5.1, 48kHz, 24-bit
You're right, I get the same thing. Dolby 5.1 in MKV plays but LPCM 5.1 produces an "Audio Not Supported" message.

You should get the details to OPPO support; I'll do the same via the beta test forum.

Here is the mediainfo report for my LPCM track:

The video track does report 23.967; I don't know why mediainfo reports a different value for audio. Is that even meaningful?

I'm just wondering if it's not playing at the proper rate (maybe misflagged?) the Oppo may get confused.\

OR: it might not support 5.1 PCM in MKV, just 2 channel?

My opinions do not reflect the policies of my company

Thanks for the quick test, Bill! I'm happy you confirmed the issue, but I guess the negative side is waiting for a possible fix from Oppo. At least there aren't too many titles where this is an issue for most people.

I submitted this issue to Oppo using the online support form.

PeterTHX, I also noticed that frame rate for the audio streams so I checked some other files and it's all over the place. I'm also not sure what it's reporting, but it definitely different than the video frame rate of 23.976 (24000/1001) FPS that I see from the files.

Oppo's 4K Ultra Blu Ray player news.....

I dont know if this news has already made the rounds on this Forum but I thought I would post it anyway....Oppo's 4K Ultra Blu Ray player news....

I have a buddy who works at Oppo and he just informed me that their 4K Ultra Blu Ray player will be released before end of this year and will be priced in line with their 103D at $599.00
You can also be put on their E-Mail list so you will be informed when released. Just call Cust Svc at Oppo.
I will wait till then before I make any 4K Ultra Blu Ray player purchase (example-the new Panasonic).

I received the following reply from Oppo regarding the PCM 5.1 issue with MKV files:

Quote:
It appears that these files have an invalid Codec ID. So the player does not know how to handle the audio for decoding.
Given this reply, I did a quick search online for the "00001000-0000-0100-8000-00AA00389B71" codec string and came across the following AVSForum post:

Quote:

When remuxing Blu-rays containing LPCM audio with MakeMKV, I would not be able to playback the LPCM audio track using anything, including VLC on PC, Popcorn Hour c200, Boxee Box, etc. MakeMKV sets the Codec ID to "A_MS/ACM" which is a very uncommon codec. To solve this problem, open MKVmerge GUI, and go to File -> Header Editor. Then go to File -> Open and browse to your MKV. Scroll down to the audio track that contains the LPCM audio and change the Codec ID from "A_MS/ACM" to "A_PCM/INT/LIT". Then File -> Save. Your MKV will now contain an LPCM audio track that should be compatible with any software or hardware capable of playing MKV files... Hope this helps...
I tried this fix on my Tinker Bell file using MKVToolnix and it now plays properly on the Oppo. The BDP-103D also correctly shows the track as 'English LPCM 5.1'.

I also found this thread - MakeMKV picks wrong LPCM codec-id - from 2011 on the MakeMKV forums so it looks like this issue has existed for at least 5 years and still hasn't been fixed. Given the ubiquity of the MKV file format, I wonder if Oppo would be able to add that codec string to it's lookup table so that we don't have to make this header conversion to our files. I agree that the programmer(s) for MakeMKV should be handling this, but after this amount of time I'm not holding my breath.

I hope you are right with the $599 price. I'd get one in a heartbeat provided it has Darbee and multiple HDMI inputs just like the 103D. My sources told me otherwise (regarding the price).

Logically the $599 doesn't make sense when the 103D is also $599.

Is anyone having issues playing Captain America Civil War?

When I inserted the 3D disc, message popped up saying that a 3D blu-ray player was not detected or a firmware update was required. When I inserted the 2D version of the disc, the previews and featurettes played without issue, but the feature film played without sound. I had to switch it to LPCM in order to hear the movie.

It is working fine for me. I checked and my firmware version ends with -0715 if you want to check yours.

Well, this is odd, everything works now! Even the 3D disc! It seems that, for me at least, switching the HDMI AUDIO from AUTO to BITSTREAM fixed my issues.

It makes no sense to carry a $599 price tag. Just a gut feeling. Unless there is so much profit in the 103d that they can absorb the extra cost and inflation indexing as well as cheapening some of the internals (ie. Newer generation elements that aggregate some of the older elements in cheaper fewer element setup)....

Hasn't the pricing for the new gens stayed in the same ballpark as as the older ones? How much were the 93/95 when released?

Same (about) as the 10X's. The 83's were the same. You pay a premium for the audiophile analog stage.

Of course there was an extra 100 for Darbee, but to me that was a bargain, since the actual Darbee was about 300.

For me it's a plus - it seems to (subtly) improve both disks and cable.

It's a personal preference but does get a vote from me.

Yes, once you set it you immediately see the difference but once set with time you forget and the before or after won't matter unless you tinker with it on/off, on/off.
But correct a personal choice.

Hard to find, man - people just don't give their Oppos up easily.

I got my parents a BDP-80 a long while ago and it's still cranking along.

Get ready Oppo's 4K Ultra BluRay player is here....

As I stated in my earlier post..I just received a Priv Message confirming the news I reported here a week or so back...
Oppo's 4K Ultra Blu Ray player at CEDIA unveiled..
and the price is better than I was told for their 1st 4K Ultra Blu Ray player:

Oppo officially unveiled the 4k player (and it looks massive...bigger than a Buick !)

$499

No darbee (my guess if their will be a Darbee version it will be unveiled next)

No info on chips yet.

On the contrary, you can miss it. I do when it's turned off. The effects of the Darbee processing are not evident when you first turn it on. Once activated give it a week of watching and then turn it off and you can notice a significant difference. The purpose of the processor is to enhance the image not change it.

I just got my Oppo today. Enjoying setting it up.

Is it true that you cannot use Darbee on the streaming services like Netflix? When I push the button on the remote there is no response. If that's the case, kind of a bummer.

(Also, one more data point with the Netflix audio problem. Selecting a different language from the Netflix audio menu and back again seems to fix it here. Though that's no solution for my family. )

No, it works. You have to set it before you run Netflix, whose app takes over the player blocking certain controls.

^ If you get OPPO's free iOS or Android MediaControl app, you can use it to adjust Darbee even while Netflix is running. Go to the app's Settings page and you can adjust anything that's in the player's Setup menu.
