The Sharp Blu Ray "Player" with WISA is the only player I have seen being presented at CES. Is there anyone else doing new Blu Ray players?

The Sharp:

Maybe they are waiting for the BDA to finalize a 4K BD solution?

I thought they finalized all of the standards already? I am too tired to do any searching though.

eek.gif Still only two channel decoding for Dolby True HD. And the lower end one, the S5100 replacement, drops to only two channel decoding for DTs-HD MA.

So I guess these new players don't get me anything over my S5100. Although I guess they are finally replacing the 790 with the S6200? But the S6200 only has one HDMi output.

They are replacing it but is not really an upgrade, hell not even on the same level as the S790. No Dual HDMI and no super bit mapping......I will probably buy another S790 before they are gone forever and keep it as spare.

Not technically a CES announcement, but Oppo has just announced the BDP-105D:

6200 is 5100 replacement.
There shall be 790 replacement in the long run.

Heads up on the BDP-S6200...
...it does have Super Bit Mapping. Sony referred to it as "SBMV (CREAS)" on the specifications page. I had a side-by-side comparison going on Sony's website between the 6200 and the 5200, and saw it one side but not the other. Yeah, I had to search on the terms "sony sbvm creas" to be sure it was Super Bit Mapping.

Damn! The two things I love about Sony players are (1) DSD-to-PCM at 176.4 KHz, and (2) fast load times. But now that I know about two-channel Dolby TrueHD and two-channel DTS-HD Master Audio PCM output, I'm afraid Sony lost me. (Although I guess I could always set SACD output to PCM and everything else to Bitstream, right?)
