downloading 1.69 now, good to see pana's continual support with updates for uhd blu-ray. the last update was only dec 22. interesting that they jump version nos obviously not bothering us with beta testing the versions in between

ps I like also it doesnt need a full system reset and clearing of its memory etc everytime it needs an update

It's easier to update for sure.

And more frequent updates 9 months after launch than Oppo after 6 weeks.

Who says Oppos support is the best? Panasonic seem right up there looking at this.....

Oppo is draggin, but they have serious problems with not so easy fixes to handle. Error correction being one.

Like I posted earlier, in the early days of Blu when movies would come out and players would not play them, Panny was usually ahead of the curve on this.

@teachsac and I owned one of about every model year, I love em. The period after the BDT500 was a little rough, they gave the BDT700 to Europe, and then came back here. I LOVED the BDT500.

Waiting for some comments on v1.69 before downloading (I'm still on v1.5).
The only thing that interests me is "Playability of Ultra HD Blu-ray" (what exactly is that?).
FLAC files play fine for me, although I mostly play them through my AVR.

Yamaha RX-A2050 AVR [v1.81], LG 65EF9500 4K OLED [v4.25.70]

In the past years it meant:

"found an issue with playback of a particular blu-ray and fixed it"

I would install any update that lists that.

I used to upgrade every year. When they dropped the Uniphier chipset in the X30, I moved on. I just can't keep up with you anymore

Anyways. 3rd time this has happened. Lost the UHD in NF again. Amazon is fine. Tried messing with it this morning and couldn't get it back. I'll mess around again this weekend. I use my ROKU for streaming, but it still bugs me.

I got ub900 with oled tv purchase got a good deal on it, own oppo 203 already so ub900 will be connected to my js9000 Samsung hdr tv, I am sold on oppo wanted to get 2nd one but got 900 on good deal, any good reason not to keep Panasonic, I am expecting biased opinion towards 900 as it is the thread for it, I am biased towards oppo but open to suggestion keeping both players, I personally think any of these will be good and not better over other, oppo has Dolby vision advantage that is why I have connected to LG C6. I have no issues with oppo 203 at all, it plays everything and I don't care about streaming as well.

Simple for me:
  • I don't need DV right now, no discs.
  • 900 plays EVERY disc I put in it without AV blips, the 203 did not. On top of that Oppo fixed 24hz stutter on 1080p blu-ray but not 3D LOL.
  • One reason for owning the 203 was the Input to scale cable, well that doesn't work right and the fix is on the back burner.
  • They have publicly acknowledged error correction is an issue causing playback problems, and they have not yet issued one FW update for that UHD issue (they told me it would take multiple updates to fix).

If I need a DV player later this year, I won't be looking at the 203, they lost my business for awhile. Hopefully the Sony gets DV and/or the LG is a good player.

I keep my equipment for a while, so I am not going to update uhd bluray player anytime soon until unless it need to be I was using bdp 93 oppo and pioneer bdp 51fd as my two bluray players till last year, those players are still top performer. I will still use bdp 93 to play BD only.

Only reason I would change out the 900 is for Dolby Vision. It works beautifully with an LG OLED.

Not even DV would be enough for me to upgrade. I didn't even really want HDR10 but all my equipment came with it. All I wanted was 4K resolution.

Yes it does.

I can play 4K Netflix HDR on my UB900 to my OLED and JVC projector.
(Yamaha AVR has dual HDMI outputs)
If its a DV title like Marco Polo, the Panny plays it in HDR10.

For 4K Netflix in DV I use the LG OLED built in app and send audio via digi-optical to my AVR.

Even "if" Oppo ever gets an update to allow DV playback,
I don't think there are any AVR's capable of DV pass through yet.

Dolby Vision only requires HDMI 1.4.........and I am expecting my Yammy 3050 to pass DV for sure.....I will likely add the LG 4K Player to my Panny 900 instead of Oppo this time (if I need DV).

Anyone here sold his 900 for an Xbox One? I own both and wonder if the One could be as good as the 900.

Perhaps a latter model may pickup Dolby Vision if it gets popular but I agree, no chance for the 900. The hardware just isn't there.

I've talked directly with Panasonic about DV in the UB900 - it will never happen because the player lacks the necessary hardware. If DV is important to you, look elsewhere.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the Panasonic DMP-UB900 reminds me a lot of the Sony DVP-S7000 DVD player in terms of quality/performance/features/etc. Both players lacked a key feature at the time (the Sony couldn't pass DTS audio and the Panasonic can't pass Dolby Vision), but both will be considered the first flagship players of their generation and will be in circulation for many years (both were/are also good CD transports).
I don't care about DV, so I'll be enjoying my 900 for years (just as I did the 7000).
