Even so, over $600 I'd just go Oppo.

I predict a $799 USD retail. Oppo will probably start at $999.

I like $699 better, but you could be right.

My guess is their starter model will be $999 and their DV version will be slightly higher.

The info mentions that this player has some nice audio features with a mention of it supporting DSD. Does anyone know if this player will play SACD disc's?

Panasonic players have never supported SACD, so I doubt it. Their first player, BD10, supported DVD-A, but it was dropped after that.

Panasonic DP-UB820 -> Yamaha CX-A5100 -> Sony XBR-75X940C; Mediabridge 6' and 15' HDMI cables.

Sent an Inquiry about this player by E-mail and this is the reply:

Thanks very much for your inquiry. We have not yet announced pricing and availability on this product and have not been given an estimate on when that will be as yet. Check back in with me in early March as I hope to know more details on this product by then.

Best,

I feel like the Lone Ranger, as It seems there are not a lot of people interested in this player. It seems everybody is in a rush to get the Samsung.

That's because many of the people who post a lot are avid consumers of A/V equipment. They want it now! Panasonic doesn't even have a manual available yet.

I haven't even seen what 3D looks like and am as anxious to see that on my recently purchased 4K Sony XBR 940C, since my previous TV was almost 9 years old.

I cant wait for this player to come onto market.
How will it affect my Epson 5030ub, which is hdmi 1.4 compliant? How will the signal from the player be transferred to the projector? Downrezed?

Any info pertainning to the bove would be great. Thanks.

How would one take advantage of the high quality audio on this player. If I was to just connect it to my Classe SSP800 pre/pro via HDMI wouldn't I just be using the DACS on the SSP800 pre/pro?

You will have to use the analog outs.

Any ideas on the hdmi 1.4/2.2 issue? Would I be able to connect this player to my Epson 5030ub without any issues?

This will not be knowable until someone actually has a player and tries it out.

However, it has been determined that the Samsung UHD player does downscale to 1080p and to HDCP v1.4 when playing UHD BDs with a 1080p display, so the Panasonic player probably does, too.

It's in the middle of a very long post by Stoked21 about the various problems that he had getting the Samsung player to work in his system. He previously was adamant that it couldn't possibly work. The post is at https://www.avsforum.com/forum/149-bl...l#post41476841

I tried messing with settings in K8500 and PJ and got no working results. So I threw my hands up and hooked it up to a several year old 1080p Vizio TV via the K8500 HDCP2.2 output. Instantly worked but provided me with this message on disc playback. And then proceeded to down-res the UHD disc!!! I was very surprised as the studio can choose not to allow down-res. On Exodus at least, it worked. I haven't tried other discs and I did not have anything connected to the audio HDMI1.4 in this scenario. Point is down-res worked.

What...US????

Looking at the specs, it seems to me all of the major boxes are checked.

Unless Samsung has performed a minor miracle with their player, I'll go with the Panny.
I've just had too much good performance with their products in the past.

Waiting for the Oppo and its likely DV is asking too much of my childish lack of patience.
Besides, I don't really NEED an all encompassing one-box solution.

I think I might benefit with my existing setup by using the m/c analog outputs might give me a sound more to my liking' so it could be a nice option. Trying to hold off on get this player, but itching to watch some 3D on my Sony XBR 940C. I probably should hold off for this or the Oppo. If the panny is only going to be a couple of more months. I think I can wait that long since I have no UHD bluray disc's to watch anyway.

Then buy the Samsung be done with it and quite possibly enjoy all the headaches people are experiencing with them right now.

I'm quite probably going to cancel my backorder on the Samsung and put in a preorder for the Panasonic. Later I can almost guarantee I'll buy the Oppo as well as its bound to be quality unit like all of their players to date- since I've got a few 4K display devices it won't phase me to have more than one player.

The current headache with the samsung is all of us having to figure the hard way how to set it up properly.
Once configured it is working well for Sony and LG owners, Samsung owners are having some issues though. By all accounts the DVD, Blu-ray 2D and 3D and UHD look very good.

Once configured it is working well for Sony and LG owners, Samsung owners are having some issues though. By all accounts the DVD, Blu-ray 2D and 3D and UHD look very good.
Don't leave JVC projector owners out of it. There's a bunch of us pulling our hair out with various issues, including HDR performance. A lot easier for many of the panel owners general by the looks of it.
