Yes, I am playing the 4K Martian disc with this player right now.......through my Yamaha 3050 and to my Panasonic 65ST60 (1080P) with the D-Nice Calibration settings.......killer picture, and the Atmos sounds great.

The Picture is better than any theater that I have seen. Panasonic call this "Dynamic Range Conversion Output" (shows on Status screen).

My intention at this point was to get Atmos sound in cases where the Blu ray does not have it (and I want it).......without buying a new display (still waiting for something that will exceed my calibrated 65ST60 ..... and that is affordable).

Panasonic DMP-UB900 thread.

Question for you guys

I've been using this player for a month now and I'm not sure if I'm getting HDR. It looks like I am but when I hit info on the player is see . It says HDR at the top but under HDMI video it says SDR/BT.709. I'm using the duel connection method as my AVR is on hold till I see the new Onkyo's I wasn't sure if I was missing a setting. My tv is the Panasonic TC-65DX900 with HDR enabled on HDMI input 1.

You are inputting HDR BT.2020 10bit, you want to see that as your output also.
You are outputting SDR BT.709 8bit.

Try and set your source at YCbCr 2:2:2 as output setting.

Is the HDMI 1 port definitely HDMI 2.0a compatible? Is your cable compatible? (18Gbps?) Is your player set to auto settings? It seems the player is down-converting due to some incompatibility in the chain.

I think the cable is 18gps. Although I'm not using the one that came with the player. I'm assuming I also want deep color output off like I did with the Samsung? With the Samsung I was getting HDR as the info had HDR light up with the same cable.

Good Afternoon.
I am looking for someone who might have had the Samsung player before they got the Panasonic that could give a good comparison review.

Since they are available today through Value Electronics, I am thinking about grabbing one..

I have both players and had the Samsung for a short while first. The build quality and ease of use & features of the Panasonic put it miles ahead of the Samsung. Now picture quality is close enough between the two on 4K BD that I couldn't tell the difference personally. But with the Panasonic there is no red smear and other issues that Samsung has with 2K BD. Also I really like a front panel display. I ended up getting this player for free with my TV and since I was using a separate BD player for BD's I probably wouldn't have bought this player right away. However if it's your only player in your setup then you can't go wrong.

Interesting that you brought up the red push for regular Blurays. I haven't noticed that problem with the Samsung.

Are you in NA, and does the player have Amazon Video (seems to be conflicting reports)?
If the US version doesn't have Amazon Video... why would they do that when the European Player (certainly UK and Germany) have had it all along?

Cheers!

I am in NA. Canada to be exact so I can't help you on that one as we don't have Amazon Video here.

Honestly, just trying to be ahead of the game. Between my theater room projector and my tvs upstairs, I'm not set up for 4k. But I've been using my PS3 as my theater room Blu-ray player for too long and it was time to start preparing for the future.

Looking forward to maximizing this player's capabilities at some point in the near future though.

I ordered my UB900 from Best Buy (in Canada) after work today. $799 CAN$ (~$699 USD)
They had none in store, on-line only, 10 available yesterday, down to 6 left now across Canada.

It may arrive by Friday, but most likely Monday

I'm already setup with a 4K AVR for Atmos/DTS:X 7.4.4
New JVC X750 (RS500) projector arrives this Thursday by FedEx.

I looked at the Sammy and could not bring myself to pay that much for what they offered.
I don't mind paying high dollars, but it has to ooze high quality inside and out!

The DMP UB900 is almost as sexy as the new JVC

picked up my first batch of 4K UHD's too

I noticed it myself. There was definitely some red push for standard blus when I used Samsung.

Just revisited a couple of X Files episodes and really the presentation with Panasonic is way ahead of Samsung! Less noise, no crush, grain looking more natural. The presentation took a turn for worse when I upgraded to 4K but now it looks much closer to my original presentation on 1080p display.

I am having an issue with Blu ray DTS Master tracks on played on the Panny. For some reason they are playing as "DTS" and not DTS MA. It seems to be on some of my Fox Blu rays. The Martian.........X-Men Days of Future Past. Other non Fox disc's with DTS Master tracks play fine (so far).

I did a bunch of testing with the player settings and can't identify the issue yet. I don't yet know for sure if it is all Fox DTS Master Blu rays or just some........and not sure about other studio's............but I did notice my Rush 2112 Blu ray Audio was doing the same thing. Any of the problem disc's played normally when transferred to my Oppo 103. I need to investigate further and see if I can figure out a solution to this problem. My receiver is the Yamaha 3050...........I wonder if anyone else has noticed any issues like this.......could be a problem isolated to my setup.

Hi JKR1963,
Could you check in the Panasonic audio menu that who have:
– Dolby D/Dolby D +/Dolby TrueHD: “Bitstream”
– DTS/DTS-HD: “Bitstream”
– BD-Video Secondary Audio: “Off”

Also see page 31 in the manual.

Regards,
Stephen

The Panasonic UB900 is an amazing piece of technology, but it is a true pity that it is lagging behind its competition on 2 key features :

- support for 10 bits UHD discs
- Netflix HDR

How come the Nvidia Shield and Xbox One S both support Netflix HDR, when Panasonic releases the most expensive UHD player on the market, but without Netflix HDR ???!

For information, no 2015 Samsung TV (that fully support HDR) supports Netflix in HDR because Samsung apparently has forgotten they ever had a TV lineup in 2015.
So if I, owner of a 2015 Samsung TV, want to have Netflix in HDR, I have to wait for Panasonic to allow the UB900 to support it !

New JVC X750 (RS500) projector arrives this Thursday by FedEx.

I looked at the Sammy and could not bring myself to pay that much for what they offered.
I don't mind paying high dollars, but it has to ooze high quality inside and out!

The DMP UB900 is almost as sexy as the new JVC

picked up my first batch of 4K UHD's too

congrats....but am not sure am comfortable that we have to choose between the sammy curvy front and the panny's blingy shiny plastic flap thing...both of which completely form over function if ask me !

I bet you when the oppo comes it neither has a curvy front or useless blingy flap thing on the front !

anyways time will ... but can tell you I hope I am not proven wrong with the oppo
